Trips to the Moon

NASA has established a program that promises to land humans on unexplored lunar regions of the moon (and eventually the surface of Mars!). Artemis 1 launches on 29 August returning to Earth in October. The objective is to see how it performs for planned journeys with humans aboard in 2024 and 2025. Are these explorations into space a waste of money? I personally think they are but I’ll be watching with interest, along with millions of other people out of curiosity. But curiosity killed the cat.

We should fix the world we are living on, before the rich can go and mess up another one.

I have always thought it a waste of money that could be spent on other things on earth. We humans have exploited our own planet and it’s probably never going to stop. Now we are destroying it we won’t be happy until we do the same to other planets in our solar system.
Call me cynical that’s ok it’s my thoughts everyone is entitled to an opinion. We are supposed to be the most intelligent living things on earth I have always questioned that theory.

They went to the moon several times 50 yrs ago and decided it really was made of “green cheese” and didn’t bother again.

Technologically it was a great achievement, the computer on board was a fraction as powerful as a mobile phone, many spin offs from the programme that benefit us today resulted.
With enormous effort it probably would be possible to sustain a colony on the moon although we’re they are going to find enough water to do that I don’t know.
Beyond that interplanetary travel for humans is not likely this century, if at all, much more likely sending robots that do not need life support will gather pace. Its hard envisage research leading to economic exploitation because of the immense cost of transport.

Quite!

I agree with all the comments. In an ideal world everyone would have clean water at their disposal, and if they can put people on the moon, they can run a few pipes in the ground.
