Katiecat13

Am very worried and sick at heart and know it won’t help. Brother (18 months older) has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer, told he has ‘months, not years’ by the consultant last week. He lives alone, an hour’s drive from me and doesn’t want any fuss. Am just ‘being there for him’ and going to appointments with him, which is all he will let me do. Feel so helpless and hopeless. Also scared to lose him….

It’s odd that Fanny hasn’t come back to her thread, I do hope she is ok.

She posted on another thread this afternoon GG13.

katiecat - everything else I’m worrying about pales into insignificance- you have a very brave brother flowers

Grammaretto Sat 27-Aug-22 22:04:50

Oh katiecat how sad for you. I'm sure going to appointments with him is really very good for both of you.
When DH was having cancer treatment, those days at the hospital together were precious times.

Erm...Well

I have come off my thyroid tablets in the hope my body will stabilise. So hot flushes, high heart rate, shaking and anxiety so high it has joined the race to colonise Mars.

I'm on school holiday so too much time to think. My brain is an utter traitor and is enjoying reminding me of all my failures in life in 4K ultrasound with commentary and Spanish subtitles because why not.

My reflux and IBS is out of control and I'm apparently quite determedly comfort eating myself a stomach ulcer because who doesn't need more problems?

I'm not talking to my friends about my worries because everyone already has their own worries without worrying about my worries. Try saying that 3 times fast.

I'm hanging in for all the little moments with my children and husband. Determedly putting one foot in front of the other until I either get to the finish line or accidentally trip, fall into a circus and end up becoming an actual clown.

I may have to get on a few buses and ride round aimlessly from 9.30 until dark.

Of course I will write a letter to Boris thanking him for sorting the bus passes out ! (It was his baby I seem to think I heard him say) after the elderly lady who actualy does ride round on the bus most days to save her putting her heating on.

VioletSky - as another who had overactive thyroid and would come off them sometimes, I sympathise. I would get quite hyper and my husband would suggest taking my “lead tablets” as he called them, as they might bring me down to earth again.

If having stopped the tablets your thyroid is overactive again, I would strongly suggest taking them again - I think you know that hyperthyroidism can be quite dangerous. Also get a blood test to see what the level is.

VioletSky Sun 28-Aug-22 01:29:59

Thanks Farmor

Levels are apparently ok but the symptoms are definitely back.

I'm keeping a close eye.

If I go too hyper again its surgery for me

How has yours been?

FannyCornforth Sun 28-Aug-22 03:43:37

Hello, sorry, I’ve only just returned to the thread. I’ll catch up with it now.
Thank you to those who have asked about me, I’m fine! thanks

Witzend Sun 28-Aug-22 08:33:45

Often terribly sad lately to think of some close friends’ daughter- only 6 months older than dd1, mid 40s, recently told that cancer is back, and terminal. Two still fairly young children, so dreadfully sad. Bastard bloody cancer. ??

Farmor15 Sun 28-Aug-22 09:28:20

Violetsky - surgery was a great success for me. I recovered very quickly and my thyroxine level (on 100 mcg tablets) has stayed the same since.
At one stage before surgery my levels seemed ok (on the carbimazole) but doc thought I was still hyper and T3 might be raised - blood tests don't usually show that.
If you want to ask me more questions privately, feel free to PM.

FannyCornforth Sun 28-Aug-22 09:32:05

Katiecat thanks and Witzend thanks

Re the bloody energy charges.
I read on the ITV website that we should try do just one load of washing a week.
So we’re going to be sitting by candlelight; cold, hungry and grubby.
What on earth is happening to this country

Whitewavemark2 Sun 28-Aug-22 10:07:56

witzend it is the worse news, and am so sorry for the little family.

Cancer is such a scourge.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 28-Aug-22 10:12:07

For me the OP should have asked if I’ve had a ? today.

After violent S&D with flu my body got very dehydrated and so completely ceased up. I didn’t go for 2 weeks, then had to attend A&E to be “emptied” ( horrible). That was Wednesday, now despite high fibre diet, extra fluid and laxative still not gone.

I’m feeling very cheesed off.

PollyDolly Sun 28-Aug-22 10:17:45

I suffered a severe and very painful injury last year and it has been a long hard slog pushing myself to overcome it. I have been in some very 'dark' places but I openly admit, every single day, that this is not terminal, there's always. someone else worse off and this has got me through so far.
My thoughts are with you all who are facing your own battles or supporting loved ones who are.....stay strong x

I try not to worry about energy prices and the cost of living as worrying. won't change things. I tend to focus on making the best of each situation and make small changes to make money and resources go further. Perhaps it is that focus that gets me through.

Granmarderby10 Sun 28-Aug-22 10:30:51

NO! FannyCornforth just no.
No to grubby clothes
No to grubby bodies
No to sitting in the dark
Absobloodylutely NO to being cold/or hungry
I don’t know if a belligerent attitude will make it all go away but it feels better saying it than going into a deep depressive hole.

FannyCornforth Sun 28-Aug-22 10:36:04

Too right GrandmaDerby! ✊

FannyCornforth Sun 28-Aug-22 10:39:17

PollyDolly that sounds very wise advice.
I was a bit like that at the beginning of the Pandemic.
I did loads of prepping which made me feel much more in control

WhiteWave ooh, that must be awful sad I bet that you feel pretty grim. Hope things get much better soon thanks

annodomini Sun 28-Aug-22 11:28:06

Katiecat13, my heart sank for you when I read your news because it brought back the day, four years ago, when my sister told me she had motor neurone disease. It's a terrible, helpless feeling and you are doing exactly the right thing by being there for him.

Bea65 Sun 28-Aug-22 11:38:08

[Whitewavemark2} you are not alone..still suffering with flare up of diverticulitis following colonoscopy 8 wks ago..my gut still aches and wont mention the other!!

AGAA4 Sun 28-Aug-22 14:11:06

I was feeling a bit sorry for myself this morning. It's Sunday and Bank holiday weekend and being on my own I don't like either.
Reading about what some of you are going through I need to give myself a shake and stop being a wimp.
? for all who are struggling or sad.
