If it wasn’t annoying her then why would she leave after having paid and travelled to an event. Maybe she was annoyed at all the people recording, some standing, and took it out on your husband.

There's nothing worse than enjoying a concert or theatre or musical production and some idiot in front ,or 2 or 3 rows in front constantly hold their phone out recording , especially if you've paid quite an amount for the tickets .

Forlornhope

I expect poor Karen had reached the end of her tether. She had expected to relax at a lovely concert but even that was spoilt for her. I thought we were supposed to be better at understanding ‘mental health issues’ not finding them funny like the bad old days.

Why does everything have to be a mental health issue ? I’m all for better understanding of real mental health problems, and they are anything but funny. But that doesn’t mean we have to put up with entitled people ranting at us for all manner of reasons. The OP said that the orchestra couldn’t be seen if you weren’t in the front row, so what’s the problem ?

What you do in your private life is your business, I would prefer you it if you stopped abusing me and any other Karens (I know at least one) on this site.

You can call them whatever you like. I won't be offended if you use my name.

I've already said that permission was granted to record.

MawtheMerrier Fri 26-Aug-22 18:34:46

Oops sorry Vampirequeens/Kings

MawtheMerrier Fri 26-Aug-22 18:33:34

If you were truly “sorry” you would not perpetuate this use of the term “Karen” with the aim of abusing women called Karen everywhere.
My RL name is Karen. My late parents chose it and you insult both me and their memory by using it as a term of abuse.

This woman’s behaviour may have been out of order, but did you in fact have permission to record in the Minster?
In most venues the audience are asked specifically not to record or take photographs.
OK you have made me angry from your thread title and opening sentence but should I refer to people who annoy me in future as Vintagequeens or Kings ?

Who said anything about mental health issues? For the record, I have MH issues so suggesting I don't understand them is way off the mark.

Recording was allowed and, as I said, no one other than those in the front row could actually see the orchestra. DH was one of at least a dozen people recording and he didn't do it all the time. Some people actually stood up to record. DH remained seated at all times.

For some reason this lady took a huff and, rather than approach DH in a reasonable manner, she decided to shout at him then storm out of the building without giving him the opportunity to resolve the situation. She didn't shout at anyone else even though the people in front of us were also recording. She just chose to shout at DH.

Why Karen? Another ridiculous American import.

The woman in question may have had someone playing in the youth orchestra and wanted to watch that person. Who knows.
As far as I know recording concerts etc is not allowed.

Was she actually called Karen? If not why label everyone with that unfortunate name as a difficult person?

Chewbacca Fri 26-Aug-22 18:15:36

She was a twit that cut off her nose to spite her face. I'm just sad that the lovely name "Karen" has been hijacked to describe a selfish, white, middle aged woman.

eazybee Fri 26-Aug-22 18:14:27

I didn't think you were allowed to record live performances without permission. Copyright?

Jaxjacky Fri 26-Aug-22 18:09:08

Her loss, what a twerp.

Blondiescot Fri 26-Aug-22 18:06:06

Most places have an absolute ban on people recording concerts like that, do they not? I can understand what you're saying, but it is a bit of a pet hate of mine too.

Apologies to all the nice ladies called Karen but today we met a 'Karen'.

We went to a lunchtime concert at Beverley Minster. It was the Berkshire Youth Symphony Orchestra and, if you ever get the chance, I can heartily recommend you go to see them.

DH was using his phone to record some of the music to send to a friend in South Africa who loves classical music. He wasn't the only person recording but Karen seemed to take offence to him alone. Half way through the concert she stormed up behind him and shouted (over the music) that he had ruined the concert for her because she couldn't see when he was recording. Now the layout was such that, unless you were on the first row, you wouldn't be able to see the orchestra anyway but apparently her lack of view was DH's fault. He hadn't done anything to affect her hearing of the music. After she shouted, and without giving him chance to reply, she stormed off and left the Minster. We, and people around us, burst out laughing.

The daft thing was that if she had simply told DH that she found his phone annoying because it was in her eyeline, he would have apologised and recorded from another position. Then she wouldn't have had to storm out and miss the second half of what was an incredibly good concert.
