Good morning all from la Sarthe where another hot day is expected.

Our joy at reuniting with Cooper was short lived. The vet discovered a tumour in the corner of his jaw and recommended euthanasia to which we agreed. Rather a shock, but he might have had it for a while, possibly developing during Ian’s four week stay in UK. Perhaps the trauma of the dog incident followed by becoming dehydrated exacerbated matters.

I was very upset but DH, who lost his mother and school friend to cancer whilst a young man, then his first wife, another school friend and younger brother more recently, was more phlegmatic. Over the years he has had countless animals come and go in his life which probably makes a difference. At least Cooper knew he was loved and continued to purr until the end.

RIP, Cooper. ???

Good morning Mick and all.
I’m so sorry, Ashcombe. It’s so sad when we miss such a much loved pet.

Not much planned for today. Just walking and crafting, i expect. But we have a few of the proms to catch up on.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 28-Aug-22 06:47:17

Morning all from West Oxfordshire.
I’m so sorry to hear this news Ashcombe. As you say, he knew he was loved and purred to the end.
Our younger son is home for a few days. He is always good company.

NanKate Sun 28-Aug-22 06:54:22

Ashcombe how very sad your news is. RIP Cooper ?

Gingster Sun 28-Aug-22 07:04:44

Good morning all and we had a beautiful sunrise here on the Suffolk coast. The sky js amazing ! Almost biblical!

So sorry for your short lived reunion with Cooper. Ash.
Lovely that you got to see and cuddle him one last time.?.

Yesterday our next door neighbour had her 80th birthday party. A lovely do with family, friends and neighbours. The weather was perfect to start but as the sun disappeared behind the cottage , the breeze was quite chilly with people donning jumpers and jackets.

Last evening as I walked little pooch along the beach, there were plenty of people in swimming. I stopped to talk to a lady who was coming out of the sea and asked her how warm it was. We chatted away and then realised we are in the same book club. ?. She looked different with wet hair! ?.

No plans today but will start getting the cottage ready for ds2 and family coming next week. We won’t be here so will have to leave notes on things that don’t work/quirky etc. They will be bringing MIL and their pup. Our dog doesn’t like other dogs so when they come with us , they leave the dog with MIL.

I do hope you all enjoy the bank holiday. Fingers crossed for those travelling. ?

Here’s Matt.

Good morning everyone from Malaga. I think it seems autumnal. Less hot first thing anyway.

Himself has the Hungarian Grand Prix to watch this afternoon. I’m listening to a Harlen Coburn audiobook. “Tell No One” written in 2001. I don’t usually go for thrillers and now I remember why! So many ‘red herrings’ and things you get told at the beginning now seem doubtful. Extra characters appear, some sinister, now the FBI are involved ... it’s exhausting ha! Never mind, it’ll keep me out of mischief.

We might get on a train and go somewhere next week ~ if it really is cooler. It’s been so very hot in August, a swimsuit and sarong is all I’ve wanted to wear! No wonder GG13 refers to these type of holidays as ‘fly and flop’. So true! “Mad dogs” and all that would come to mind had we ventured out anywhere this past month. I have quite a tan now, even with mostly sitting in the shade.

Sorry to hear about Cooper Ash. Seems sad to have found him then had to ‘lose’ him anyway. That’s the responsibility with having a pet. Breaks your heart every time you have to say goodbye. ?

karmalady Sun 28-Aug-22 07:09:10

good morning from south somerset. A very unusual dark start to the day but it is lightening up now. Feels autumnal outside and the sun is waking up

I am trying to keep on with the sunday ambience so will take a car ride to a lovely historic market town for a potter this morning. Then a bit of shopping, maybe a small sunday treat to bring home for a late lunch. I like weekends and try to make a weekend a bit special, as it used to be

BigBertha1 Sun 28-Aug-22 07:09:49

Good more my everyone. Lovely morning here in East Cheshire. So sorry about Cooper Ashcombe. Youngest daughter and family con by for traditional Sunday lunch here today. Roast beef etc. then Apple pie and custard.

grandMattie Sun 28-Aug-22 07:19:20

Good morning from a sunny (again) E Kent. It was a very warm night and I hardly slept, which I why I’m so late.
Ash, I’m very sorry about Cooper.
Photos of my cakes and of Iris who has suddenly discovered reading. To me it’s like breathing, so I’m always glad that someone else enjoys it…. You can see that Iris still wears a splint on her left leg, but at least they are both the same length now!
I’m off to church in a moment following a hasty breakfast.
Carpe diem. ??❤️???

PollyDolly Sun 28-Aug-22 07:25:55

Good morning from a bright East Midlands, There's a distinct autumnal chill in the air this morning and again, no breeze.

Nothing special planned for today, we will take the day as it comes no doubt.

Have the best day possible everyone, take care in all you do.

SunshineSally Sun 28-Aug-22 07:34:47

Oh Ashcombe I’m so very sorry to hear about Cooper. That’s so sad - but as another poster said, at least you were able to say goodbye and cuddle him. RIP Cooper. Sending you hugs Ash - it will be hard for a while but you did the right thing and Cooper knew he was loved xx

Good morning all from a calm, lightly cloudy start to the day in Glasgow. A sunny 18deg. is forecast for the afternoon. Thé nights are drawing in too quickly now!

Very sad news and a heartbreaking decision to make Ash -
RIP Cooper ?
My decision to prune a few shrubs yesterday afternoon seemed like a good idea at the time but when finished, I had run out of energy to do any tidying up so leaf blower charged and hoping there is enough space in the garden bin, full to the brim waiting for the refuse strike to be over, is my only plan for today.

Hoping a pleasant day is ahead for all.

dragonfly46 Sun 28-Aug-22 07:36:24

Good morning from asPolly says a bright Leicestershire.

It was so hectic here yesterday I did not get near my iPad.
Happy belated birthday Urms.

So sorry to hear about Cooper Ash. Pets are so much a part of us.

A quiet day here as the family have gone north leaving their two beautiful house cats. They are back on Thursday.
Walking to a local country house which has a craft fair today.

Hoping every one has a good day.

Urmstongran Sun 28-Aug-22 07:39:22

grandMattie those coffee & walnut cakes look so professional (and I bet they were delicious). You are one amazing woman at everything you turn your hand to! ?
x

Good morning from the NE where it is sunny and dry.
Family returned safely from their holiday in Wales and will visit this afternoon.
Sad news about Cooper.
Have a good day.

Beechnut Sun 28-Aug-22 07:51:18

Good Morning everyone from Severnside. There’s some cloud about. I think it’ll be another nice day though.

I’m sorry to hear your reunion with your cat then ended in sadness Ash ?

I spent yesterday afternoon cutting down a cotoneaster. Why oh why did I let it grow so wild and get tangled up in another shrub that is so much nicer. Today’s job is to cut it into smaller pieces for the bin. Not looking forward to it but I can’t rely on the fairies.

I’ve not read the thread properly so I’ll have my breakfast and settle down to read.

Have a good day all ???

Sago Sun 28-Aug-22 07:51:32

Good morning from sunny Carcasonne. Breakfast by the pool then off to explore the medieval town.

cornergran Sun 28-Aug-22 07:53:03

Morning Mick, morning All. Light cloud over our corner of Somerset, sun breaking through.

A decent day yesterday, a long walk and a longer sit with a cuppa by the sea wall watching daft seagulls and happy children.

Quiet one today. Some admin catch-up for me and a phone call to our friend. Mr C is very tired so I’ll leave him to read - and snooze - in his favourite spot in the conservatory.

Sad news ash, Cooper will be missed. We’ve noticed that morning and evening chill polly. Audio books send me straight to sleep urms, wish I could get the hang of them.

Hope Sunday is kind to us all.

BlueSapphire Sun 28-Aug-22 07:54:09

Good morning everyone from a bright and very sunny ? day in the Bay of Biscay. The sea is calm and all's right with the world. Just had breakfast and am due to head off to the salon soon to get my nails done (fingers and toes); that should set me up nicely for a couple of weeks at home. Then lunch and an afternoon of I haven't decided yet, but will probably involve some reading in the sunshine.

We had a lovely day in Santander yesterday. The sun shone and it was hot. Had an excellent tour of the area and city in the morning. In the afternoon a friend and I ventured ashore to the shops, managed to find Zara, and came out with purchases - I bought a lovely light spring/autumn jumper.

Dinner had a Spanish theme with sangria, tapas, suckling pig, and paella - delicious!

So sorry to hear about your poor cat, Ash, may be rest in peace in the happy hunting grounds of cat heaven.

Have a peaceful Sunday everyone.

NannyJan53 Sun 28-Aug-22 07:54:52

Good morning from a gloriously sunny Black Country. Looks like it will be the same as yesterday.

Had a lovely few hours in Bewdley, lunch by the river, then a walk.

About 12.30 had a call from DS. They were towing their caravan from Somerset when it broke down near Junc 10 of M5! It was almost 5pm before RAC sent recovery truck, then because the driver had run out of hours, they were towed to nearest Services where they had to get a taxi home! Car and Caravan being brought back today! I hope RAC are going to reimburse Taxi fare?

Then spoke to DB and he dropped a bombshell they are moving soon. I didn't even know house was on market. Apparently to a village near Worcester. House is similar size to theirs now, but garden is smaller. They currently have a humungous garden which they feel will be too big to manage as they get older.

So sorry to hear about Cooper Ash a very sad decision to make, but at least you with with him.

This afternoon I have to be over to DS's as they are out for the day, and they want me to be with DGD who is 13. She has a party to go to at 6pm and her older sister (DGD1 18) will pick her up from there as her shift from work will be over. So I can be home by 7pm

Wishing you all an enjoyable day

kittylester Sun 28-Aug-22 08:00:14

Good morning from a bright but cool bit of Leicestershire.

Slow start then a full English before dh and ds1 go off to the football. They get lunch there's I will have lamb chops, baby potatoes and peas in peace and quiet.

Have the best day possible every one.

BlueSapphire Sun 28-Aug-22 08:01:13

Yesterday in Santander.

Pittcity Sun 28-Aug-22 08:03:52

Good morning from sunny Colchester. Another warm, dry day. I'm needing an extra layer morning and evening as the temperature drops.
A quiet Sunday with roast chicken later. Haven't had a Sunday roast for a couple of weeks so I'm looking forward to it.
Big hugs for Ash and OldD and love to all ? x

Greyduster Sun 28-Aug-22 08:14:10

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where the sun is breaking through. I’m so sorry to hear about your Cooper, Ash. We have lost so many cats - it’s a huge wrench.
Not much going on here at present. Life is very quiet. GM’s cakes may just have spurred me on to do some baking. I have my late sister’s recipe for coffee cake somewhere.
Have a good day, all, whatever you are up to.
