I am not sure about this idea. There was a somewhat hysterical and deeply unpleasant post on the thread about Meghan Markle towards an American poster. Responses like those may put off others from giving that information.

It's an interesting suggestion, Nancat. We do have several longstanding members from outside the UK. Regular posters will know where they're based, but it might be useful to new members to know what they mean when they say "over here". Perhaps we should use England, NI, Scotland and Wales etc as well if members agree to it, as laws can differ even within the UK.

I love Gransnet, but read more often than post. You can always find useful information, fun, sympathy, so many things on the forums. I also understand the preference for anonymity, but as legalities, customs etc vary so much from Country to Country, wouldn't it be a good idea to include the Country in the Poster's information? Nothing more specific, just UK, FR, AUS for example. It wouldn't identify the poster, but would indicate if advice etc given was relevant to where the OP is located. It would also be interesting to see how different the responses are depending on which Country you are from.
