I love Gransnet, but read more often than post. You can always find useful information, fun, sympathy, so many things on the forums. I also understand the preference for anonymity, but as legalities, customs etc vary so much from Country to Country, wouldn't it be a good idea to include the Country in the Poster's information? Nothing more specific, just UK, FR, AUS for example. It wouldn't identify the poster, but would indicate if advice etc given was relevant to where the OP is located. It would also be interesting to see how different the responses are depending on which Country you are from.

It's an interesting suggestion, Nancat. We do have several longstanding members from outside the UK. Regular posters will know where they're based, but it might be useful to new members to know what they mean when they say "over here". Perhaps we should use England, NI, Scotland and Wales etc as well if members agree to it, as laws can differ even within the UK.

I am not sure about this idea. There was a somewhat hysterical and deeply unpleasant post on the thread about Meghan Markle towards an American poster. Responses like those may put off others from giving that information.

I was going to say, as long as it doesn't say US all will be well.

You can always tell a US poster by their terminology.

My Goddaughter lives and works in the US. Her adult sons' are American.
Several of my longstanding friends are from the USA. I have never had a problem with their nationally. One cannot and should not generalise about any nationality.

I am in the East Midlands. I don't think it matters where we live, if we need advice or support then reaching out should not restrict responses to our home country. Legal information might not be the same worldwide but kindness and friendship should know no borders.

I'm in the Cotswolds. I agree with PollyDolly, I'm not suggesting that responses be limited to our own Country, but think it could be useful to know that advice offered may be different elsewhere. I totally agree that kindness and friendship should be, and mainly is, regardless of location.

Nancat, I read your post that you meant it might be helpful if we included our country in our posts so that others knew that we were providing information based upon our home countries. Was that your intention?

I'm confused by the posts above where people have simply posted where they are from although those do answer your question.
