It was your and your husband’s special day to be remembered, at the time.

Would you have liked a very famous celebrity to have dropped in, taken the attention away from you both?

If so who or do you think it’s cheeky of them?

I feel it was our day and wouldn’t have liked to have seen anybody that wasn’t invited.

Why not?

It would be fun!

Before or after the vows? …..I might have changed my mind depending on who and why

Depends very much what you mean by 'celebrity'.

Now if you mean Barak Obama, or David Attenborough - then yes, I'd have loved it. But most 'celebrities' nowdays mean absolutely nothing to me at all.

Sorry Doodledog, I've just seen you mentioned Keanu.

He's such a lovely man, so very kind and has experienced great sadness in his life.

I'd be happy if I bumped into him

He does seem a genuinely lovely man, but I wonder how he knows people are getting married and manages to turn up? Does one of the guests let him know?

On this recent occasion Keanu was spotted in the bar of the hotel where they were having the reception. The groom spotted him and asked if he'd like to join them for a drink. He kindly said yes. I don't think he deliberately foists himself on weddings!

He's over here doing some filming so it was just luck rather than design.

Bride and groom were thrilled.

I saw it on the news, and the way it was reported suggested that he'd just rocked up grin.

If you are talking about Keanu Reeves then it just so happened he was staying at the same hotel as the wedding party. The groom supposedly saw him in the bar and asked him if he would join them for a photo, as he's the "nicest man in Hollywood" he obliged. He didn't gatecrash the wedding. He can drop in on me anytime.

Oh sorry, I thought he just dropped in as the bride was surprised.

I am another who woukdnt recognise a celebrity, or almost anyone else as I have a face blindness thing.

Same here, silverlining. I have it all on to recognise my own family. grin

Generally absolutely not! But I would have made an exception for the late, great supremely funny Jeremy Hardy

Aldom

As a bride in the 1960's, arriving at the hotel for our wedding reception I recognised a well known, female singer sitting in the bar. But.... I've completely forgotten who she was grin

???

This article explains what happened with Keanu. I saw the couple interviewed and the bride had been totally in the dark about the special guest. Groom had spotted him, asked if he'd like to pop by and he did. It's a nice story really.

I wouldn't have minded Freddie Mercury popping in on my wedding day, if I'd had one.

No, it seems a very weird idea to me. Someone who’s obsessed with ‘celebs’ might well like it, but I’ve never been one of those.

Lucca Sat 03-Sept-22 10:21:00

Pavarotti would have been welcome to pop in and sing ?

NotSpaghetti Sat 03-Sept-22 10:25:25

No, no and NO!

Cherrytree59 Sat 03-Sept-22 11:00:40

It would have been wonderful if Elvis had popped over to sing 'Love me tender' for the first ?

Sadily Elvis had died by the time we were married in 1981.

Back on the real world and quite a shy 22 year old, No

Is this about the Keanu Reeves thing? I don't think I'd have minded, but it's an odd thing to do - apparently he has done it a couple of times before.

I remember seeing a film of someone who had a huge crush on Gary Barlow and friends arranged for him to drop in on her wedding. He sang to her, and she looked so starstruck that I felt really bad for her new husband.

Oh that’s awful. The poor chap.
To the bride, her wedding will probably always be ‘the day I met Gary Barlow’

Redhead56 Sat 03-Sept-22 11:21:40

Not remotely my wedding was very private both our mums and my two little children.

timetogo2016 Sat 03-Sept-22 17:48:30

I have yet to see a horrilbe/up themselves celeb doing that.
Only the nice ones, who most people like seem to do it.
The likes of Barack Obama/Keenu Reeves and Tom Hanks to name but a few.
I think it`s rather nice of them tbh.
Wouldn`t bother me either way.
