I am having a sleepless night.

I just went into my bathroom and found this beauty in my bath!!!!

The flaw with the Glass Method is that you have to look at your prey,
unlike the Loo Roll Method

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 07:01:20

It's too big to fit into even a pint glass, I'm sure.
I really can't get close to one that big.
I just can't.

I like the Envelope Method GNW!
I don’t mind touching them, but they tend to run off, and then I’m scared of hurting them

Open the window before you do the glass and card thing.
Then you are ready.
That's what I do.
I had this spider's sibling in my sitting room yesterday ? - and did manage to get it out. Was pretty concerned it would hide as I went for the glass and the card though!
I didn't want to take my eyes off it whilst it was on the run!

Be brave! You can do it!

The jug option sounds a good idea MissA if you can do that till help arrives.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 06:58:22

I'm really disappointed in myself, because I've been gradually dealing with spiders, thanks to my trusty racquet.

I immediately take my glasses off if I see a spider, and repeat "it's a blob. It's just a blob now..

Exposure therapy is supposed to be good for arachnophobia and fear of other creatures.

MissA I’ve got his friend here. I spotted it out of the corner of my eye on the wall beside my chair. My spider catching technique works well. I use an envelope. If you gently touch it with the flap while the envelope is puffed open it will drop off the wall and into the open envelope. Then gently fold over the top and leave it outside with the flap unfolded.

I think the same technique will work in the bath if you can pluck up the courage to do it. Not easy I know if you feel so afraid of them.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 06:54:55

Absolutely sure I could not do it for all the tea in China.

Could I put a jug over it until my neighbour gets up?
That is an option but it would take all my courage.

My late husband was chief spider catcher in our house. I've been dreading the "spider in the house" season and formulated a campaign against them, starting with using deterrent sprays and what to do if I find one. The latter involves using the extension hose of the vacuum cleaner.

I'm seriously considering hypnotherapy (on me not the spiders!)
I never used to be so scared of them. My phobia appears to have got worse over the past few years. Might be worth a try. ?

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Sept-22 06:52:23

Oh blimey MissAsad
The loo roll wad out of the window ploy is foolproof
Are you sure that you couldn’t manage that?

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 06:48:49

And I once did the card and glass.
The spider started jumping in the glass, then I realised I couldnt open the door because I was holding a glass, a piece of card, and a pogo jumping spider.
I panicked, wet my pants, and it all ended badly.

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Sept-22 06:46:49

You’ll be able to get someone to help soon, hopefully

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 06:45:40

I can't do the vacuum thing.
Too close for comfort.
I did it once years ago, and ended up throwing the vacuum out on the grass outside, where it promptly got pinched. smile

And there is no way that spider would fit down a plughole.

rosie1959 Sat 03-Sept-22 06:42:15

It's very unlikely it will be able to get out of the bath the poor things tend to get stuck.
I used to have the same fear when I was younger, now I pop a glass over them slide a bit of card underneath and put them outside I do this because if my daughter is here she freaks out she will hoover the poor unsuspecting spider up

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 06:42:02

I have some folded up, dry flannels on one corner of the bath.

If it stood on tiptoes, I think it could reach them and use them to haul itself out.

It won't though, will it?

Oldwoman70 Sat 03-Sept-22 06:41:36

I am like you MissA - you could suck the little monster up with a hand held vacuum cleaner but I would have washed it down the plug hole by now

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Sept-22 06:39:15

That’s why you see them in there so often. As I said, it’s either fallen in or went for a drink from a water droplet

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Sept-22 06:38:24

It won’t be able to get out of the bath.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 06:31:30

Yes I know.
I think I'd be able to hear it clambering out of the bath, it's that big.

nadateturbe Sat 03-Sept-22 06:28:37

You'll have to do something or it might move and you won't know where it is!

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 06:20:23

Phew!
I'm back.
I couldn't "go" when I got there, frozen with fear, I think.

FannyCornforth Sat 03-Sept-22 05:56:13

Well done! Good luck! smile

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 05:54:43

I am going into that bathroom!
Right now.

MissAdventure Sat 03-Sept-22 05:52:24

And the very strong spray sometimes makes other crawly things run out of their hidey holes, coughing and choking.
