Mad weather tonight in Derby.
Torrential rain, thunder and loads of sheet lightning.
The little dog is very scared; DH is fast asleep.
All the exciting stuff is moving on, but it’s still throwing it down.

Mamardoit Mon 05-Sept-22 02:11:01

Lots of rain in rural Leicestershire. Sounds as if the exciting stuff is getting closer.

FannyCornforth Mon 05-Sept-22 02:13:59

Ooh! The sheet lightning is something else! It went on for ages

Jane43 Mon 05-Sept-22 02:19:31

Heavy rain for about five minutes and one rumble of thunder; we desperately need rain here in Shropshire.

FannyCornforth Mon 05-Sept-22 02:34:09

Hope that you get it Jane

MrsKen33 Mon 05-Sept-22 04:00:50

Torrential rain over night and wind. Now all quiet. Hope the water butts are all full. We have a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms later. That should be fun . S W Wales???????

FannyCornforth Mon 05-Sept-22 04:30:54

‘Morning Ken yes, more storms forecast for us too, late afternoon and evening

annsixty Mon 05-Sept-22 05:43:23

Two enormous claps of thunder here in Stockport followed by torrential rain bur clear sky with stars now.

BlueBelle Mon 05-Sept-22 06:31:11

Still not a drop of rain in East anglia and still very warm

Here in South Yorkshire the rain woke me up last night, rattling against the window, but I didn’t hear any thunder. Shame! I like a good thunderstorm!

MawtheMerrier Mon 05-Sept-22 07:06:51

Wasn’t it just!
For the first time in 25 years I have a dog who is not afraid of thunder!
When I recall the hours I spent with hyper-ventilating, panting , terrified dogs who looked on the verge of a heart attack , I am so grateful Rosie is not bothered but my heart goes out to those whose dogs really suffer.

PoppyFlower Mon 05-Sept-22 07:07:30

Same as FannyCornforth here in North Derbyshire!! One of my cats was out so, when the thunder woke me up around 2am I ended up trying to call her in! But to no avail. 4 restless hours later I'm up and said cat walks in absolutely fine! She has shelter in our summerhouse bur I was still worried! It was a red electric storm with tropical rain!

Oopsadaisy1 Mon 05-Sept-22 07:12:56

Torrential rain here at midnight, MissOops dog was stressed so I stayed up with her until 1.30. We had lots of lightning but not much thunder.
The rain was louder than the thunder, its nice and bright this morning

Jaxjacky Mon 05-Sept-22 07:16:23

Started rumbling about 10:30 pm, then lightning, heavy rain and thunderclaps, the rain is very welcome. This morning the ground is almost dry, drips on the outside furniture and a wet shed roof give a clue. We’ve more coming over the next couple of days.

FannyCornforth Mon 05-Sept-22 07:16:42

It was amazing wasn’t it Maw and Poppy!
Best storm in years.

Good news about Rosie Maw. Is she good with fireworks too?

Poppy, I feel your pain.
It look me three appointments, and two vet surgeries to get our cat vaccinated last week.
I just couldn’t get the dratted thing to come in the house

BlueBalou Mon 05-Sept-22 07:17:45

A damp start here in Wiltshire but none of the excitement here unfortunately ☹️
I love a thunderstorm!

kittylester Mon 05-Sept-22 07:21:29

My bit of Leicestershire, not too far from you Fanny, had lots of rain and rolling thunder but no lightning. It is muggy now.

PoppyFlower Mon 05-Sept-22 07:34:25

Ugh, yes FannyCornforth I can relate re vets, though troubles are usually with my other, nervous boy cat. Luckily he was in the house last night! My female is more robust, and was probably guarding the premises last night. She like a sentry guard!

More rain/storms tonight so will shout her in earlier methinks!

Yes, KittyLester, it's very muggy here too.

MawtheMerrier Mon 05-Sept-22 08:11:53

Keeping my fingers crossed for November fireworks FannyCornforth, so far Rosie has not batted a doggy eyelid at the occasional distant firework, so we may be in luck.
The thing is, it’s not Bonfire Night any more but Fireworks Fortnight, isn’t it?
Sympathies to all animals who suffer, and their owners who suffer with them.

Witzend Mon 05-Sept-22 08:13:13

Woke up last night to thunder, lightning and heavy rain. Lay in bed with window and curtains open listening - lovely!

kittylester Mon 05-Sept-22 08:16:07

DD1, even closer to Fanny sleeps on the top floor and had the most fantastic light show through her roof veluxes.

J52 Mon 05-Sept-22 08:27:28

Loads of lightening and thunder, but only a short heavy downpour in South Leicestershire between 1 and 2 am. Beautiful fresh day now.

Shinamae Mon 05-Sept-22 08:33:44

No thunderstorms but torrential rain for hours here in North Devon last night, preceded by light rain for a few hours in the afternoon….fabulous ?

Charleygirl5 Mon 05-Sept-22 08:38:22

I have no idea if it rained or if we had thunder and lightning in NW London because I can sleep through anything. Apparently there is a yellow warning for today but with luck it will miss my area.

nanna8 Mon 05-Sept-22 08:52:23

Last night was weirdly cold here in Melbourne, only 3 C . It is usually much warmer than that at this time of year. I think for us climate change doesn’t necessarily mean more warmth, just different weather. We haven’t had a really hot Summer in years and I remember many years ago it used to reach 40- 42 C every year and 35 was just normal. Heavily denied, of course ,but I used to be particularly interested in the weather so I am sure I remember correctly.
