Mad weather tonight in Derby.
Torrential rain, thunder and loads of sheet lightning.
The little dog is very scared; DH is fast asleep.
All the exciting stuff is moving on, but it’s still throwing it down.

Just had a deluge. Quite biblical. Torrents of rain, thunder ,lightening. Gutters were overflowing.

Rain yesterday. Rain early this morning, but then it’s been sunny all day. I’m wondering how our dog will cope with fireworks. Last year she didn’t mind.

Aldom I live about 5 miles out of Oxford and from around 1.00am we had a lot of sheet lightning and rain but no thunder...

My D who lives in W Sussex said they had a very bad storm.
Their glass topped garden table was blown over and it took her an hour to sweep up the thousands of tiny squares of safety glass littering the patio.

We had overnight rain, but I`m not sure how heavy, or if we had thunder.

We had rain overnight and a bit more today but we rarely have thunder and lightning. One of my cats was most indignant, he’s never felt rain before as they are indoor cats who now have a Catio and can go outside whilst staying safe.

I’d love a good storm! I too am fortunate to have a fearless dog - in fact I’ve only had one GSD who was afraid of thunder. She would come to me for a cuddle, on my lap, which was bliss. She was a lovely rescue who had been beaten. A wonderful and loving girl.

Please send us some rain!
It was dark all day yesterday and we had a couple of dribbles but only enough to dampen the surface.

Aldom Mon 05-Sept-22 11:58:09

Heavy, welcome rain, thunder and lightning in Oxford, just after midnight last night.

BigBertha1 Mon 05-Sept-22 11:17:36

Expecting a storm tonight in East Cheshire - our daughter's 'sensitive' Golden Retriever staying with us until Wednesday wont leave our side anyway let alone a storm or fireworks - roll on Wednesday.

Grandmaderby I’m amazed that you slept through it too!
Mind you, DH did too , and his curtains were wide open.

Heavy rain and a flash of lightening in the distance about 3 am in the West Wickham, Kent area. Lasted a short while.

FannyCornforth I’m astonished that I wasn’t woken by any storm and I did have the windows wide open, was it “local weather for local people”? The dog here was fine- on her armchair flat on her back snoring away….. Very lovely and fresh out there this morning though.

We had plenty of rain here in Northumberland, but I didn't hear any thunder. I will consult with DH when he comes back from shopping, I'm sure he would have mentioned it if he'd heard any as he doesn't like thunderstorms.

lixy Mon 05-Sept-22 09:44:29

Lots of rain here in Bedfordshire and DH says there was some thunder but both GS and I slept through it all. Water butts are full.
Hope everyone gets some rain soon.

HurdyGurdy Mon 05-Sept-22 09:38:24

I don't know if I slept deeply last night, but apart from two rumbles of thunder, I was completely unaware.

Looking at Facebook this morning, on a Chilterns weather forecasting page, there was a real humdinger of a storm.

We are right on the edge of their area, and quite often miss the weather they forecast. Pity, because I love a good storm.

henetha Mon 05-Sept-22 09:35:11

Huge heavy rain here last evening, in south Dartmoor.
Thunderstorms are forecast for later, and tomorrow.
I don't like it, but we need it.

Hiraeth Mon 05-Sept-22 09:32:28

Hope the rain will arrive here in Germany soon . We haven’t had any rain for months !

Maya1 Mon 05-Sept-22 08:52:56

We had thunderstorms in our part of East Anglia, I'm in the fens. More due late evening. For the first time our dog didn't wake up, I'm sleeping downstairs with him. I think he is loosing his hearing.
This will help when the fire works arrive as he is terrified them.
As Maw says, it is now more like a fortnight.

Last night was weirdly cold here in Melbourne, only 3 C . It is usually much warmer than that at this time of year. I think for us climate change doesn’t necessarily mean more warmth, just different weather. We haven’t had a really hot Summer in years and I remember many years ago it used to reach 40- 42 C every year and 35 was just normal. Heavily denied, of course ,but I used to be particularly interested in the weather so I am sure I remember correctly.

Charleygirl5 Mon 05-Sept-22 08:38:22

I have no idea if it rained or if we had thunder and lightning in NW London because I can sleep through anything. Apparently there is a yellow warning for today but with luck it will miss my area.

Shinamae Mon 05-Sept-22 08:33:44

No thunderstorms but torrential rain for hours here in North Devon last night, preceded by light rain for a few hours in the afternoon….fabulous ?

J52 Mon 05-Sept-22 08:27:28

Loads of lightening and thunder, but only a short heavy downpour in South Leicestershire between 1 and 2 am. Beautiful fresh day now.

kittylester Mon 05-Sept-22 08:16:07

DD1, even closer to Fanny sleeps on the top floor and had the most fantastic light show through her roof veluxes.

Witzend Mon 05-Sept-22 08:13:13

Woke up last night to thunder, lightning and heavy rain. Lay in bed with window and curtains open listening - lovely!
