Well thank goodness this new PM debacle is over.. just have to see if what is promised is delivered and hope we all get the support we need?

Casdon Mon 05-Sept-22 15:04:47

I think it’s more a case of very low expectation than vitriol on this thread Shinamae. I thought, and said on several occasions on other threads that of the two candidates, Sunak would have been a far better choice because although I disagree with much of his policy I recognise that he is a capable politician, and he would have been better for the country. I think you’ll find a lot of other people from all parties feel exactly the same, none of want to see the country go down the tubes.

It is being reported that Truss is considering the Labour plan of freezing the price on energy.

Well done if that is the case.

I hope that she fully costs all her economic policies.

To wish failure on a PM goes hand in hand with wishing failure on the U.K. as the two go hand-in-hand

I'm afraid that the failure of the UK was inevitable given the Brexit vote, GG13.

All we can hope for is a PM who can go some way to mitigating the damage that has caused. I don't think that Truss is that PM, nor would Sunak have been.

I do not want Liz Truss to fail, neither would I want Mr. Starmer to fail if he wins the next GE, I didn’t want Mr. Johnson to fail but he let himself and the Country down.

To wish failure on a PM goes hand in hand with wishing failure on the U.K. as the two go hand-in-hand.

I expect the PM to do what is in the best interests of the U.K. whatever the colour of their rosette.

Very well said granny gravy and my sentiments exactly, I can’t believe all the vitriol on this thread…?

Patsy70 Mon 05-Sept-22 14:51:00

Exactly GG13.

BlueBelle Mon 05-Sept-22 14:44:17

They ve done it on purpose to get Johnson back he ll be seen as a ‘great leader’ against her ??‍?g

tanith Mon 05-Sept-22 14:41:42

If she lasts 6mths before her own MPs turn on her I'll be surprised.

flump Mon 05-Sept-22 14:39:52

Beckett. The Conservatives got the majority of seats because of FPTP. However, more people did not vote for them than did. The Tories got 43.63% of the vote but Labour, The Liberal Democrats and the Green Party got a total of 46.24%. So much for democracy!

Just thinking how fortunate we are living in a 'democracy'. Just imagine living in a country in which the over-whelming majority have no say who is their Premier Minister, who is their Head of State and who has all the control and rights in the second chamber!!!!!

it does seem as if many GN members do not understand how a leader of any political party, or PM is chosen mid term as well as normally.MP's get to choose and then the party members. This is how it is always done, and I do not recall that people were up in arms about this matter.
I think on balance that Liz Truss will understand the mood of the country better than Rishi Sunak.
I do hope that he is given a job in the Cabinet though, also Kemi Badenoch and Jeremy Hunt who seem capable and sensible.

Zonne Mon 05-Sept-22 14:34:39

Callistemon, yes, you’re right. I’m not quite sure where I pulled my number (or my percentage) from.

Callistemon21 Mon 05-Sept-22 14:29:56

We'll have to wait and see.

World events may dictate her decisions but what worries me is that she is hawkish.

nanaK54 Mon 05-Sept-22 14:27:06

My reaction was 'shoot me now'!

FarNorth Mon 05-Sept-22 14:26:34

Thanks Daddima.

I think she's wrong about that grin

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 05-Sept-22 14:26:33

Well said GG

So, if my maths is right, c98,300 people have just chosen the leader of 67 million of us.

Seems fair.

81,326 I think

Ok so apparently UK ends at Carlisle according to Liz ? Might need a passport to visit Balmoral in that case

What did she say?

(Is Truss a secret supporter of Scottish independence?)

twitter.com/julesmchamish/status/1566757242527010816?s=12&t=Fnv898l-UQK_ieN9-YUbJg

And ‘Kiev’? And awkward pause for the applause.

Zonne Mon 05-Sept-22 13:51:00

I retract part of my earlier post. Not even the majority of party members voted for her.

And to those sniping about how it’s the same for all parties: I know that. Just because everyone does something, it doesn’t stop it being a flawed process.

Curlywhirly Mon 05-Sept-22 13:49:35

As a Labour supporter, I can't wait for PMQT - I almost feel sorry for her ?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 05-Sept-22 13:46:14

Liz Truss was not my choice, I shall reserve any judgement until such time as the announcement regarding the energy crisis is made along with what she intends to do regarding inflation etc.

Casdon Mon 05-Sept-22 13:44:57

The only consolation is that it won’t take her long to ? ? it up.

Gawd help us !!!

Can't think of a better way of putting it. Thank you Fleurpepper!

Let's face it - no matter who was elected you would all be saying exactly the same thing - newsflash this was an election for a leader of the Conservative party - did you expect Sir Kneels a lot to be elected (you know the one who doesn't know what a woman is!). Perhaps you would prefer the PM to be elected by a Presidential style election - where the candidate with the most money wins

Don't be silly. Who has said any such thing?

Fleurpepper Mon 05-Sept-22 13:22:08

oh no they didn't!

Actually the majority voted for a Conservative government that IS democracy.

Not in my country they didn't!
