Well thank goodness this new PM debacle is over.. just have to see if what is promised is delivered and hope we all get the support we need?

It's not voice coaching/gravitas that LT needs. She needs compassion and credibility.

Maremia Tue 06-Sept-22 12:56:24

Don't worry folks. She is just keeping the throne warm, until the return of the Cincinnati Kid-on.

Liz hasn't proved herself to be honest in tbe past as she cheated on her husband. Not saying it will happen again but can she act in all our interests given her track record.

Uninvitedme Tue 06-Sept-22 12:53:07

Only members of the party are allowed to choose the p.m. at this point, you’ll get your chance at the general election.

Granny23 Tue 06-Sept-22 12:52:41

She really does have an unfortunate name. Already being labelled Ms Trust.

Nannan2 Tue 06-Sept-22 12:51:21

For Gawds sake- sorry for seeming sexist- as im a woman too and all- but how many more times do they have to put in a (conservative) woman till they realise IT DOES NOT WORK, and it wont help the beggaring mess the UK is now in!?

Uninvitedme Tue 06-Sept-22 12:50:59

Are we going to give Liz Truss a chance or are we condemning her straight away. I think between the two of them I would prefer her for the simple reason Rishi Sunak stabbed Boris Johnson in the back and he was Johnson’s good friend. I think anybody who stabs anyone in the back especially when they’re friends “Supposedly “can’t be trusted… and I just don’t trust Sunak…

Dillonsgranma Tue 06-Sept-22 12:46:11

Come back Boris!

So, if my maths is right, c98,300 people have just chosen the leader of 67 million of us.

Seems fair.

We've never voted for the PM. Only our own MPs. That's not changed, nor is it going to.

That's true, and let's say it loudly every time someone like Johnson claims that he has a personal mandate.

But it really misses the point, Zonne's comment is factually correct. A few tens of thousands of people did vote for a PM this time.

Frying pan ... fire!

Her maths professor father said she always outwitted them at games when she was a child.. that made me laugh

For goodness sake! Give the woman a chance. She might be the best thing since Mrs Thatcher for all we know! The fact she doesn’t like / trust Cranky is a bonus.

And the fact that you resort to name calling ( and I believe it is spelled ‘ Krankie’) doesn’t inspire respect for your opinion.

NotANana Tue 06-Sept-22 12:39:55

I don't think that the few thousand mainly older white people who actually got to choose the next Leader of the Conservative Party and de facto Prime Minister could possibly have chosen Sunak.
Because he isn't British/isn't white.
I guess I am saying that Sunak didn't have a chance because of racism. Never mind if he would have made a better Leader/PM...

grannygranby Tue 06-Sept-22 12:38:52

Good, a comprehensive schoolgirl has outwitted all those privately educated privileged men ! give her a chance.
The sexism aimed at her is appalling. She is clear and transparent and all her colleagues voted for her, she’s had 8 cabinet posts under three prime ministers.. yet people say she is ditsy etc. I don’t think so.
Her biggest fear is authoritarianism, her main complaint about the far left of her upbringing. In the hustings she stayed with her parents in Leeds she is close to her mother. Let’s give her a chance, she was a remainer, stood as a Lib dem….but then the only party that could win and had ever elected a female leader were the Conservatives. She’s known to be very pragmatic and fearless.
It’s so unfashionable to like her it’s sparked my oppositional streak. Only dead fish go with the flow. Now show us what you are made of Liz.

That’s a really silly thing to say kiligran. Making her feelings public about the democratically elected first minister of Scotland is profoundly foolish. One of the first rules of good politics is not making your personal feelings public.

Blondiescot So many people imagine Hadrian's wall and the Scottish border are one and the same. They are not. Almost the whole of Northumberland is north of the wall. No disrespect but we are English and wish to remain so! ?

I do know that - it was just a joke!

Am I the only one to think that running a country isn’t something you should ‘ give someone a chance’ at doing, especially one which is in such a mess?

Polly4t42 Tue 06-Sept-22 12:19:29

☹️ poor Nhs, poorer poor and richer rich. Well on the good news we have had rain here in our part of Wiltshire.

Babs758 Tue 06-Sept-22 12:18:23

I wonder what would happen if Tony Blair went back into politics as head of the Labour Party? Would they finally be able to offer some strong opposition?

Gawd help us !!!

Seconded again

undines Tue 06-Sept-22 12:03:38

Yes, she's known - as a Remainer, a LibDem, and an adulteress (don't hold the last one against her, tho' I wonder if it was the 'career-couch' if you know what I mean.) All she wants is power and she has said whatever it took to get it, like Johnson but with less panache. Yes, Goddess help us all!

Applegran Tue 06-Sept-22 12:00:27

Maybe she will understand more - and care more - about the real needs of disadvantaged people than her predecessor - but I doubt it somehow. Did you know that more 'levelling up' money has gone to the relatively affluent South East than to the North East of England where there is real deprivation?

Here is a quote from a recent article in the Guardian:

The south-east of England, the most affluent region in Britain outside London, last year received almost twice as much money as the north-east from the government’s levelling up fund aimed at boosting deprived areas.

Projects in the south-east benefited from £9.2m from the fund in the year to 31 March 2022. By comparison, the north-east only received £4.9m, despite being the poorest region in Britain by disposable household income.
