Well thank goodness this new PM debacle is over.. just have to see if what is promised is delivered and hope we all get the support we need?

JenniferEccles Tue 06-Sept-22 09:09:32

The negative personal comments, well negative comments generally are, of course, purely and simply because she is a Tory.
She can’t win in some eyes. No Tory PM could win for a lot of posters on these endless Politics threads, but millions and millions of us are pleased to have a Conservative government in charge.

Give her a chance for goodness sake. She’s got the in-tray from hell as one tv political editor put it. We won’t have long to wait to learn what she proposes to tackle the energy crisis.

Meanwhile the weather is still warm. We’re nowhere near needing the heating on yet.
We’ve already been promised help and I’m certain more is on the way.

Her chance starts today.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 06-Sept-22 08:40:58

Ms.Truss is not even PM yet , give the woman a chance.

Yes, Beckett, it's the alacrity with which people everywhere, fuelled by media no doubt, jump on politicians and make derogatory remarks before they have been given a chance to prove any worth in their new position.

Interesting how it is starting already with posters making comments about Liz Truss' voice, her features, her hormones etc. Will it not be long before people start delving into her personal life? Really?

Unfortunately it seems the norm that female politicians are judged by their looks, dress sense and marriage. Intelligent debate should concentrate on her policies - I would have expected better from GNs

But exactly the same happened with Boris Johnson, it’s not because she’s female?

I think Boris was given a bit of a "honeymoon" period before the personal comments started - Truss hasn't even been sworn in and they have started

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 06-Sept-22 08:19:33

Just listened to Boris’s farewell speech. Real troop-rallying, election-winning oration which Truss will never match. I think that, like Margaret Thatcher, she needs voice coaching. It made a big difference to Thatcher’s gravitas.

One major issue. Sterling has never recovered at all since Brexit and fallen even further on the news that Truss is the next PM

Do you mean her affair with that bloke that assaulted a woman at a Tory gathering?

Oldnproud Tue 06-Sept-22 07:26:45

Actually, if you draw a line on a map direct from Kiev to Carlisle, you avoid most of England too, not just Scotland!

No Far North just as far as Carlisle it seems.Does that mean we gain our Independence now?

If you're outside the designated admiration zone then it's more likely you'll gain increased servitude.

I'm pretty sure there's going to be an attempt to row back further on devolution. There was also a short article yesterday saying that she's thinking of making the threshold in any independence referendum to be 50% of all registered voters.

All pulling together for the good of the UK.

The loss of Nadine Dorries will be a heavy blow.???

DaisyAnne Mon 05-Sept-22 22:42:12

"It has been interesting listening to the 10 o'clock news. There have been resignations, some of which may of course, be "leave before you're pushed". There is also some talk about whether Truss will be able to fill all the Cabinet seats.

With Nadine Dorries leaving to go back to writing her books who can the poor women rely on?

AskAlice Mon 05-Sept-22 20:15:04

Ms Truss paid tribute to her "friend" Mr Johnson in her victory speech, adding he would be "admired from Kyiv to Carlisle" for his record in office.

I despair...

ERG puppet.

I think she won because a lot of those who voted for her think she’ll be easily managed/manipulated going by her previous form. She was a Lib-Dem, now a Tory. She was a Remainer, now all for Brexit. She’s changed her speaking voice. She really doesn’t present as being as intelligent as Rishi Sunak.
Also, if RS had been exactly as he is but white, he may well have won. Am I saying that I think racism was a factor in this, yes sadly I am.

Oh well, it will be fun for the satirists.

When I look at her, I always think of the line from the Beatles song Eleanor Rigby - “wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door”. She doesn’t look quite real, somehow.

Uncanny resemblance.

The voting members of the Conservative party don't seem to be very good at it.
I cant understand why they would choose someone who was not the favourite of the M.P.s

The most sophisticated electorate in the world, as they like to describe themselves.

Luckygirl3 Mon 05-Sept-22 19:45:38

I don't think that people on here have indicated that they want "Labour at any cost" - they just want some integrity and competence at the head of government. Doesn't seem too much to ask.

Casdon Mon 05-Sept-22 19:40:45

Apparently the French are calling her The Iron Weathercock. Quite witty.

Yes! Exactly.

Compare her speaking voice now to much earlier recordings of her speaking. She has quite weirdly adopted her current style.
