Not one of the best ideas to do that walk as a mass hike. Thousands of people all tramping along there together. Not sure the reason for cancellation is valid.

It is the great north run this weekend we are waiting to hear if it will be cancelled. I will be beyond furious if it is.

The U.K. is now in 10 days of National Mourning, so maybe big events are not appropriate.

The Last Night of the Proms has apparently been cancelled.

The days of closing down for national mourning are surely past. We can all manage our own mourning as we feel appropriate, can't we? It is a big event in all our lives.

Surely any significant event could be dedicated to the memory of the Queen, which would be particularly appropriate for The Last Night of the Proms, given the patriotic content of the programme. Organisers should follow the example of the Queen, whose sense of duty overrode everything.

We have a week long, amateur run of an Agatha Christie play opening on Monday. As a committee, we have agreed that each performance will be preceded by a minute's silence, followed by the National Anthem.

We ve had a whole weekend of events that have been trained for, practiced, put together over the last 12 months and all have been cancelled which is such a shame they may not happen now
We needed them with all the doom and gloom and worry of the winter ahead

Yes The Nation is in mourning , but I am sure the Queen wouldn't want charity events cancelled , as they get money for their charities, which helps people less fortunate. Personally I would still pay to have sponsored them, but not all people are the same. R I P HM God bless

I’m sure all permissions for the walkers were obtained and the routes approved so that little damage would be caused.

MacMillan say it is out of respect for the Queen. Is it disrespectful to raise money for charity ?
The only disrespect I can see it their disrespect for the people who have made so much effort.

Royal Mail and British Rail have cancelled immediate strike action out of respect for the Queen's service to this country.

I have always thought sponsored walks, runs etc. completely pointless. (Apart from raising money for worthwhile causes)
Wouldn't something like beach cleanups, sprucing up deprived neighbourhoods etc. be much more worthwhile?

You could say that about all sorts of things. I think people should in a democratic society be allowed to carry on with things that are important to him. Dh for a long time ran in memory of his mum. So no it wasnt pointless.

One of my daughters and 3 friends were doing this hike.
They were doing in in memory of a Dad, a Mum, a Brother and a young friend.
They are still going but will only be able to do a shorter walk as it wouldn’t be safe to do the whole thing without the safety of back up teams.

Nor am I. It is sad for her family of course but cancelling charity events which people have spent a long time organising is not IMO what the queen would have wanted. And as for cancelling the Last night of the Proms. That’s just bonkers.

Sorry to say but I’m glad I’m going away for a week as I was already fed up of wall to wall rolling news of the queen etc by last night.
