When my mother died on a Friday I was back at work on the Monday and only took one further day off for the funeral. My job involved meeting people every minute of the day. That’s what most people have to do after the death of a parent isn’t it?

Throughout history monarchs have had mistresses because of arranged marriages. Charles and Diana was arranged otherwise he would have married Camilla then.

You are so right - it’s overwhelming, at any age. Especially if you are in your 70’s, you just don’t have the stamina as when you were younger. And of course, the grieving… it’s been put on the back-burner for now. Just getting through the formalities is monumental. Sending my love to all.

I am wondering-and I would be grateful for any insight- why she is constantly referred to as ‘ Camilla, the Queen Consort’ ? Why not Queen Camilla? Our late Queen’s mother was Queen Elizabeth, or simply the Queen (Queen Mother after her husband’s death) and Queen Mary, our late Queen’s grandmother and George V’s spouse, was most definitely a Queen! It seems rather unfair to me. We don’t need reminding that she is not a Queen Regnant, we know she receives her title as the wife of our King! I hope that she is popularly known as Queen Camilla-I will definitely be calling her that and not this ‘Queen Consort’ nonsense, even if it is the ‘official’ title.

I think it’s just while we get used to the new titles. They keep referring to Charles as King Charles III instead of just The King. I think it will gradually ease into the King and Queen.

We travelled back overnight and I was back teaching the day after the funeral, but I was younger than they are and had no-one criticising me.

LucyLocket55 I still am. I don't like either of them. I'm sorry, but after the Diana debacle I will never warm to them. I wish William was King and Charles had been missed out. If Charles lives as long as his mother then William will be in his mid-60s so will also be an old King. Far better to have a much younger one.

TheMaggiejane1 I too had only two days off work. One was the day of her death, the other, the day of her funeral, however during that period I did not have TV cameras vying to get close ups of my face, in case I shed a tear, neither was my every move dissected and discussed and I did not have to attend official ceremonies. (I spent most days interviewing people and sorting out their problems). I must admit I did have a lot of family support with household chores.

I'm sure William is relieved not to have to become King now. Odd when people suggest it really. Rather selfish to wish this on a man with a young family.

Am I missing something poor Camilla it her own fault it’s why she broke up a marriage to get what she wanted everyone one was up on arms then . Diana was used as a brood mare then dumped . I am sorry for the loss of the Queen as our queen also a mother grandmother great grandmother and auntie, but that’s where it ends . No doubt I have upset people now but people have short memories . I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels like this. I am not anti monarchy but anti what adultery does to people

I agree with you, you are not the only one who feels like this. Some people have very short memories. Camilla knew what she was doing when she befriended a young and very vulnerable Diana. Keep your friends close and your enemies/rivals closer. Diana provided the heir and the spare and then was duped until she started to play the same game herself.
I too feel sorry for the loss of the Queen. She seemed a person who set very good examples and standards which were not always followed by her children.

My dad died very suddenly of a heart attack, in front of me, when I was 19. It was a Sunday.

I went to work the next day, (was a bank cashier), and the only day I had off was for his funeral.

My sister, 8 months pregnant with her first child, accompanied my mother on trips to register the death, the bank, the solicitors.

It didn’t need both of us to do that, and I felt my dad would have wanted me to carry on as normally as possible.

My dad’s sister said dad would have been proud of me.

I do realise that isn’t the best way for some, but it helped me to deal with things.

So was I with 35 4/5-year-olds starting school and crying for their mum and all I wanted to do was cry for my father. The Head made sure I lost pay for the day I spent travelling back after the funeral.

A few very harsh and judgmental people on here. Hopefully they, or their family members, never make a mistake. Imagine having to tell one of them you’ve messed up!

They are real soul mates and will support each other through these heart breaking times. A shame a lot of these formalities couldn’t take place after the coronation. HM’s end came rather suddenly and has left them very shaken. Even when the death is expected it’s still a horrible shock.

Being surrounded by so many staff must add to the distress not really a good thing when you just want to have time to grieve.

Sorry to break in with a triviality, but can anyone tell me if Camilla’s hair is natural white or fake blonde? I can’t decide, and it’s distracting me every time I see her on TV.

In my experience it does help to be busy with normal routine. How one feels inside is another matter.

yes, it is odd, and is not the way that it works in any case. The public do not choose who will be the next King simply because they prefer one over another.

women the same pain
