I have just watched the King and Queen Consort sit through the Scottish Parliament tributes. Camilla looks tired and as if she is wondering how she is going to cope with her new role. My heart goes out to her. While I sit here, happily retired, enjoying my glass of wine, she has a new role to come to terms with. I for one wish her the best of luck.

Camilla used to have light brown hair, but like many women chooses to be blonde in later life, it suits her complexion.

She does look very frail and tired and what they are doing must be exhausting but they will be well looked after at the end of each day - she’s hardly going back home to make the dinner and make sure clothes are washed and ironed for the next day is she?

When my mother died on a Friday I was back at work on the Monday and only took one further day off for the funeral. My job involved meeting people every minute of the day. That’s what most people have to do after the death of a parent isn’t it?

I could no more have done that than fly to the moon

Me neither, for none of our three remaining DP.

We had compassionate leave.
There was so much to sort out, too, it took some time.

Were you 75 at that time TheMaggieJane ?

One commentator said that out of respect for the Queen ( until she is buried), Camilla is deemed Queen Consort. After the funeral she will be termed Queen.

Grief is exhausting in itself without all the duties they have to perform. Camilla is the same age as me and I do feel sorry for her as you do get more tired in your seventies.

Rosina I agree totally. I gave up reading the Charles thread in the end.

MOST people take leave from work when someone in their immediate family die for goodness sake.

It’s so heartening to see such love and empathy on here. Other social media sites are often tarnished by spite and hatefulness. What a lovely bunch you all are!

Some aren’t able to Jane. I was one of them.

As I’ve said on another thread, I really like Camilla. She has done/does a lot of charity work and I’ve heard her speak on a range of subjects: domestic abuse, and osteoporosis spring to mind. She also has a ‘reading room’ on Instagram (now called The Royal Reading Room), which has brought people from across the globe together and introduced them/us (I include myself) to books and authors we might never otherwise have come across. She has a great love of reading and is very well-read. I expect we will eventually call her Queen Camilla; I know I shall. Like other posters, I hope she and the King are able to have some well-earned rest soon.

I think Camilla is also worrying that the Diana brigade will rear their head again, and before you shout I WAS one of them , but Camilla has worked so hard, I feel for both of them they are working on auto pilot .
I also feel for Anne she looks devastated

Based on the ages of our new King and consort, hopefully he'll use a little common sense and only hang around in the file for a few years and will then step aside and pass the mantle to William.
We NEED a younger monarch and I believe the rules should be changed now so that the monarch stands down once they're in their 70s to give the younger generation a chance.

grannyro Tue 13-Sept-22 18:10:12

I think that Charles and Camilla are under a whole lot of strain. When my mother died, I cannot imagine how I would have felt if I had to meet and greet hundreds of people, keep smiling, attend numerous services and fly around the country. No wonder they both look knackered! If they aren't careful they will have worm him out before the Queen is even buried!

Harmonypuss Tue 13-Sept-22 18:14:52

Flipping autocorrect...
Hang around in the role (not file).

Also, before anyone says anything, yes, I know Charles is already 73 (74 in November), so even if he hangs around until he's 80, he should then step aside because William will be 46 by then, and would be able to have 25+years before handing over to George. This is all assuming they live that long of course.

Taichinan Tue 13-Sept-22 18:21:42

Nicely put Lauranorder. I totally agree with you. Camilla will be a great support to King Charles - and let's not forget they have immense help behind the scenes, including medical support.

Nannapat Tue 13-Sept-22 18:26:52

I think Camilla looked more at ease today (in Ireland) and better looked after. Last night I felt nobody was looking after her at all. It's also strange, I think, to see her almost left to her own devices when Charles walks ahead of her, there is nobody to escort her. Roll on her getting her own team together with ladies in waiting, dressers, etc.

Anniebach Tue 13-Sept-22 18:30:49

Hangs around ? Is this what those in their 70’s do ? No use to anyone just hanging around.

MerylStreep Tue 13-Sept-22 18:31:31

I get really peed off with people that have your attitude towards the Royal Family.
Yes, they have all the luxuries and care that any one could want.
But!! Charles and Camilla are old people.
They still have to get out of bed at god only knows time to do what they have to do at this time.
Go to the bathroom, get dressed, have breakfast and then, go walkabout, sit for hours without moving, shake hands ( old hands) with I don’t know how many people.
Keep smiling, keep walking, keep talking. And then!!!! do it all again tomorrow, and the day after.
Have some respect.

Same here.

They’ve never stopped since the news. I can’t believe how much they’ve done just watching them makes me feel tired. I know he knew this was all in the background but the reality of it all must of hit home in the last. Few days. Ido think camilla will be good for Charles and she will accept her new role and stand by him well.

She will have had a 'team' for some considerable time, as the wife of the heir to the throne. She is being looked after. She has, and doubtless has had for years, people to do her hair and make up, sort out her clothes, etc. She is the Queen Consort. I feel for her but don't worry that she doesn't have a support team in place.

Camilla does indeed look exhausted she also looks out of her depth She is a dreadful fidget and doesn't seem able to control her facial expression Ah well she's made her bed !

Callistemon21 Tue 13-Sept-22 19:05:30

She looks poised and appears to be coping well imo, although appearing exhausted. It's a huge change in her life.

I keep hoping someone will let her sit down - standing is more exhausting than moving around.
