Hope I don’t sound insensitive but DH and I were just discussing what will happen to the Queens clothes. Do they get auctioned with the proceeds going to charity or will they go to museums?

I agree her wardrobe was fabulous, but I will remember her best in her last photo. A granny in soft coloured blouse, cardigan and tweed skirt, looking so warm and kindly.

Since last Thursday, I read that (can’t remember where, sorry) over the years, a great many of the Queen’s outfits went to her ladies-in-waiting for them to wear themselves or dispose of as they thought fit. The only proviso was that all labels on all the garments were removed before they were given away.

grannydarkhair - I have read this too.

How lovely Ladyleftfieldlover - the V&A is one of my favourite places! ?

I’ve just watched Elizabeth: Fashoining a Monarch on BBC IPlayer. (whilst ironing ).
It was fascinating and very informative. Won’t spoil it with info. for those interested.

No, Joseanne it isn't - but the one Beatrice wore was very lovely I thought. This one was made for this one occasion. If you click on the link
and scroll down you will find lots more information about this one. There are lots of sub-sections on the page.

The V&A is just THE most fabulous resource archive.
I also got to see the original Dior suit - the "New Look" there with its microscopic waist. I saw some Schiaparelli and Balenciaga too - one Balenciaga hadn't ever been photographed at the archive and it looked like a 1960s dressing gown!

Here is The ‘Bar’ suit from Dior’s La Ligne Corolle.

It was a wonderful exhibition wasn’t it? The woman beside me in front of a cabinet with a Dior wedding dress told us how her next door neighbour had donated it to the exhibition She said she had had it from a second hand dress agency decades ago when she was a secretary in London!

I don't know which exhibition you mean MawtheMerrier - I just saw them in the archives.
But they DO have fabulous exhibitions - and I expect there will be one about Elizabeth 11 there in due course.

Oh yes, Lovely!
I didn't see that particular exhibition. .. It was before that - I was just studying there.

I think I remember seeing some Dior dresses in the fashion museum in Bath.
