You probably need to redo your post on a separate thread, Paulaw - post it under “Ask a gran” or “Legal, pensions and money”

Good afternoon all, I'm looking for some advice, for the last 8 years I had been sporting my father and step mother due to health issues. My stepmother developed memory loss and after many years she was becoming distressed and a danger to herself. My father was unable to care for her and she went to nursing care home which have amazing support staff . I had been 3rd party on bank account and done their finances for years , sadly this year my father passed away . I have kept contact with my stepmother and I'm next of kin so when she needs anything I have no problem at all to help her . My father didn't make any arrangements will ect because he asked myself to sort everything out after his death. Now due to his death and step mother not having the ability to understand I am no longer able to access the bank account on her behalf. I've spoken to the bank and explained all this but was unable to discuss the matter as I'm no longer 3rd party, please can anyone explain what I need to do next in this situation. Xx

Good afternoon,

It’s a dull day weather wise now in South Yorkshire and not quite as warm.

Been busy fettling downstairs, making a couple of spiders homeless, and generally reaching into all the nooks and crannies for a good clean. Just stopped for coffee, then onwards and upwards, whilst I feel motivated to do it.

I’m sorry to hear that your daughter had such an uncomfortable and long wait at the hospital yesterday Gingster and hope that she is now settled on the ward. A distressing time for you all.

Well, I hope the afternoon goes well for you all. Take care.

Good morning all from dull Harrogate
Just been to the surgery where both of us have had asthma checkups, and made appointments for flu vacs in October. We’ll go to a walk in place in Knaresborough for Covid vacs.
Gingster that was a horrible experience for your DD. Hope she is now comfortable.
I’m in M&S having a cuppa before going to a bathroom showroom round the corner
Have the best day possible folks

Good morning Mick, Annie and all.
The garden waste has been collected and I had my morning cup of tea in bed, after a restless night. DH had restless legs, arms, knees etc. You name it, he had it.
In the late afternoon, I had a call from on of the oncology team. He speaks so quickly and with an accent, that I have difficulty understanding him, so didn't really say what I needed to. It is much better when one of the specialist nurses rings and really listens to what I have to say. I shouldn't moan, as I am being well looked after.

This morning I have to go into town for a blood test and Vit.B12 injection. While there, I will return a jumper, bought yesterday. I didn't like it when I got it on, and it was slightly 'snug'.
DH has a telephone call due from a Dr, so he will stay in. I did manage to get our Covid and Flu jabs booked locally, by phoning our surgery.
On line, they only offered them at a fair distance away.
Ginster, I am so sorry that your DD is having so much pain and discomfort. Hope that she is now settled and much more comfortable.
Have a good day one and all.

Good morning from a sunny North Norfolk. A few days break here and we have been out and about, very busy this year compared to last. Hoping to go to Sandringham today, although I understand thousands have had the same idea. We went to the local church at Snettisham which was much more peaceful.
Gingster I hope your daughter is now in a more comfortable situation.

Good morning all from a sunny autumn day in Glasgow.

DH surpassed himself yesterday, decided to drive to his appointment himself, followed by a visit to the car wash and M&S food hall! This was his first sojourn on his own and gave him such a confidence boost, confirming he is indeed on the road to recovery. He lagged in the afternoon, requiring a snooze but feeling more positive.

I am appalled at the lack of care shown to your DD Gingster. It was heartbreaking to read what she and you had to endure, such a feeling of helplessness and no one caring. I sincerely hope whatever care she needs is addressed today and she is feeling more comfortable.

Bed linen washed and hanging in the sunshine and thankfully, DD1 will arrive later to remake our bed, a task I now find exhausting but refuse to change our super king to a smaller size. I do like my comforts.?

Hoping everyone has a good day and an easier day for those with worries, whatever they may be.

hollysteers Wed 14-Sept-22 09:35:52

Good morning Mick and all from Cloudy Chambers northwest coast.
Good day at music club yesterday and I am now a committee member, so the varying personalities of people come to the fore…
After singing I had a drink at our local with one fellow committee member who has it in for various people lol. I will have to tiptoe through this (there are only three of us so far)
Fell asleep in the chair again last night and was too tired to take the bins out. No matter, I haven’t much waste from last week.

I was going to book a day trip to Lytham St.Annes tomorrow, but it looks as if it has been taken off the list, not sure if it is something to do with the funeral or not enough people. That’s ok as have stuff I should get on with.

Thoughts to Gingster and hope you have enjoyed your trip Blossoming
Will read through properly later.

Good morning from a dull but calm S Lanarkshire.
DD4 and her wee dog have been here overnight, she was on duty at St Giles on Monday night and is absolutely shattered. They have workmen in the house so she decamped to mum’s!

I never thought of Fresher’s week being affected Marydoll. DGD1 moved into her Halls on Saturday and I have been thinking what fun she would be having, just didn’t make the connection, in spite of long hours of TV watching.

I am so sorry to hear of your DD’s awful difficulties Gingster, I hope things are better for her by now. Prayers redoubled for her and the others.

Exercise class later today with coffee and catch up. Good wishes to everyone for a decent day, especially Greyduster ???

GrannySomerset Wed 14-Sept-22 08:49:02

More indoor drying just as I am trying not to use the tumble dryer - very frustrating but there is guest bedding and towels as well as my own laundry. Must reread the thread on the topic.

Apart from my Widow Twanky act I must do some admin and then I have singing this afternoon as well as keeping an eye on events in London. Not exactly busy but not an empty either.

EkwaNimitee Wed 14-Sept-22 08:48:31

Good morning Mick and everyone from a rather grey Carlisle. A change from the lovely warm sunny day we enjoyed yesterday.
Today, it's housework and admin, I shall start on the ironing shortly. Depending on the weather, I may get out in the garden this afternoon. I hauled out my runner beans plants yesterday. While I was away the beans got large and tough and remained too fibrous for me even after a good steaming. I've actually had a full garden waste bin go out this morning such has been the clear out from the garden.

I'm really sorry to read about your DD this morning Gingster. What an ordeal for you both, I hope she is getting properly sorted out now.

The best day possible to all.

harrigran Wed 14-Sept-22 08:45:52

Good morning from a dry NE.
Yesterday was a beautiful day, sunny all day.
SIL and I did the Sainsbury shop and bought olive bread and cheese to go with our lunchtime salad.
We spent the afternoon in the garage again and the result was we had enough floor space to get all the garden furniture in for the winter. A bonus find was a bag of old audio tapes, one of them was a recording of my DD's band in 1992, she was the keyboard player. I went looking for my walkman, found it and was able to relive the gig.
I am having my flu vaccination next Wednesday and my 5th Covid one the following Wednesday. What a palaver to book online, spent an entire morning trying to find a venue.
Sorry to hear about your DD Gingster, hope there is some improvement today.
I am going to a funeral at lunchtime, the DH of my late cousin. My cousin died at the beginning of lockdown and I could not attend the funeral as only five people were allowed. Her DD has arranged a double slot so that we can honour her memory too. It is a church service, he was a Reader at Durham cathedral, so I think it will be a long day.
Have a good day.

Taichinan Wed 14-Sept-22 08:44:53

Good morning Mick and all. It's another lovely start here on the Angus coast. More cloud than yesterday over the hills, so I am steadfastly looking west where there are none!
Nothing at all to report from here. But I am horrified to hear of the experience of your DD at A&E Gingster. In the old days she'd have had a home visit from her GP, poor girl. I do hope she's been found a bed and is more comfortable now. I do feel for you both.
All the holidays sound lovely.
Have the best day everyone x

ShazzaKanazza Wed 14-Sept-22 08:43:37

Good Morning Mick and everyone from a bright Hull.

Gingster I’m so sorry your daughter had such an awful trauma yesterday. You must be so worried. Really hope she’s comfortable this morning?

Grandmadinosaur enjoy your first day on holiday.

Not too much on today until I pick up GS from school.
We had a lovely afternoon and dinner with GDs and DD they are always so cheery. DGD1 had gone downstairs in the morning on her own as she said I’m a big girl. They said ‘Ok just put cebeebies on the tv. She came back up a little later and told her daddy ‘I accidentally fed the dog some paper’. They are dog sitting for the other grandparents.
Daddy got up and she said ‘I accidentally had a feast on the sofa’ daddy said ‘what did you eat’ she said ‘a cupcake and Monty ate the paper’
It’s all ok to eat a cupcake for breakfast if it’s accidental. She’s so cute. She obviously fed the dog the evidence?

Have a good day everyone if you can. Thoughts to those struggling with illness and worries ??

Good morning all from sunny South Lanarkshire.

What a beautiful weather we are having, we walked down to the park yesterday, it looked so pretty in the autumn sunshine.

A bit of a potter and tidy up in the garden is on today’s agenda then I’ll probably settle down to make some more poppies.

Knitting/crochet group this evening.

Your poor DD gingster, I hope she’s comfortable and that her pain is being managed.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Shelflife Wed 14-Sept-22 08:41:17

Good morning everyone ?
grandMattie, you are entitled to have the Covid booster. I am 73 and had it on Monday at a walk in centre. You can look online to see where your nearest one is or you can also book on line. I am so grateful for the clever and wonderful people who developed the vaccine so rapidly .

Greyduster Wed 14-Sept-22 08:34:05

Good morning Michael and all GNs from a bright South Yorkshire. I am a little under the weather this morning. We would have been celebrating DH’s birthday today. Another “first. I am going to go over to DDs this evening if I don’t change my mind. I must finish the application to renew my driving licence now I have a (dreadful) photo to attach to it, and book my covid jab.
Have the best day you can folks.

Marydoll Wed 14-Sept-22 08:19:39

Good morning all, from a proper Autumn morning here in Glasgow. This is my favourite time of the year!.

I was saddened to hear about your daughter Gingster, what a terrible ordeal, it made me quite tearful reading it.

Yesterday, didn't go to plan, and the day was over before I realised it.
I was late getting out, our PP contacted me about some parish business, which is troubling us. It's been preying on my mind for days.
By the time I got to Sainsbury's it was busy, which makes me unsettled. I'm still so wary of being in busy places.
They had a homeware sale on.?
You will be pleased to hear that I wasn't seduced, but did buy some pretty half price candles as gifts.

DIL travelled all the way to the fresher's event she was running, only to be refused entry, along with other organisations, by the University, saying it was inappropriate, due to the death of the Queen.
She was raging that they hadn't advised her in advance and had wasted her time and precious petrol. She may also lose a day's wages.?
This meant that we weren't required to take Dollie to ballet lessons.
However, we did pick her up from school. Standing at the far end of the playground, I heard a little fishwife, screaming, Thats my gran!!.?
I heard my name being called, it was the school secretary from my old school picking up her grandson. I haven't seen her since the day I first went off sick. Mr MD's face fell, he knew it was going to be a long afternoon! ?
It did mean, we got to spend time with DS and DIL, when we dropped her off. The best part of all, Dollie is coming for a sleepover in a few weeks.

Busy day ahead,
I plan to use the windfall apples today and also and make dulche de leche ice cream, (for me) with fragments of cinder toffee through it. I love experimenting.

DS1 is coming to watch the football straight from work this evening and also having dinner with us.
This is the first time since he got married fifteen years ago, that he has had dinner alone with us. I'm quite excited! I never get a chance to see him alone, a certain little fishwife, is always glued to his side.
I'm doing the fussy mum thing, making all his favourites! ?

I have made a bit of a faux pax. Yesterday, DH suggested we treat the family to lunch in our favourite restaurant. This is so unlike DH, he would rather have these things at home.
My failing health and low mood seem to have moved him to action.
I had to book it by phone last night, as the online system wouldn't allow me. What a palaver. The person taking the booking, got into a right muddle.
I booked for eleven people and rightly so, had to pay a deposit.
The thing is, there are only nine of us!!! ?
A phone call to the restaurant is required!

Wishing you all a pleasant day, and hoping for better news tomorrow from Gingster.

Blossoming Wed 14-Sept-22 08:16:51

Good morning Mick and everyone. It’s cloudy and grey in this corner of Lancashire today.

I’m glad you had a good day yesterday Mick. The plans for today are food shopping and housework. The weather isn’t looking too promising for a walk, we shall see.

Thoughts to all with troubles and sadness.

Ooh GrannyGravy bet you can’t wait! I think you used to live up the road in Los Boliches too? I will just miss you by days!
?

Yes our family home was in Los Boliches for over 10 years.

Mind you it has changed so much since the 1980/90’s.
