I don’t because I don’t eat meat, but wondered if it is a popular food item?

NO! I have dreadful memories of Spam fritters served up at school dinners.......coated in soggy batter and dripping in fat! I have heart burn just thinking about them!

I used to love spam fritters at school. I can't remember it ever being on offer at home and I never buy it now. I do occasionally have a hot spam sandwich if it's on the menu at a cafe, and I still enjoy it. I can't imagine it cold though....

DH likes it, though we often buy Sainsbury’s Chopped ham and pork. I don’t mind a wafer thin slice-but that’s it!

I love Spam,me, and was just looking at this comparison yesterday.

Strangely enough, no sign of the lumps of fat mentioned on here, unlike the own brand one.

No, I don't like Spam I was put off at school with Spam fritters. They used to lie heavy and someone usually vomited on the 8-mile bus journey home.
DH assures me there was nothing better after a game of Rugby, spam fritters , chips and baked beans.

No, no, never, I don’t like corn beef or chopped ham or anything like that, far to much fat in them

Kalu Sat 17-Sept-22 18:40:26

I have never tasted spam but the image of a meal of spam fritters or any food really served with beans makes me nauseous. I can’t even look at beans! Just YUK!
Yes, I am an oddity. ?

I didn’t realise it still existed. I’ve never seen it. I guess it is tinned?

I think we had it at school with salad.

yggdrasil Sat 17-Sept-22 18:46:18

Spam is tinned as a brand name. You can buy the same thing as slices where there put the wafer thin ham and corned beef, but it has a different name whichever supermarket you use

Whitewavemark2 Sat 17-Sept-22 18:49:14

I must go around with my eyes closed

Elusivebutterfly Sat 17-Sept-22 21:09:10

I've never liked spam or similar meats such as luncheon meat. It's years since anyone in the family has eaten any of it.

nadateturbe Sat 17-Sept-22 21:16:04

Battered, fried spam was very useful when I was young with 3 hungry children, and we loved it, wouldn't touch it now, too much fat in it.
Janejudge you're not the only one who loves M&S tinned ham.

With so many different types of tasty food available, why??

Why not? If people like it, why shouldn't they enjoy it? It'd be a boring world if we all liked the same things. Lot of food snobbery going on here. Apparently Spam is a massive seller in Hawaii, of all places - they certainly don't look down their noses at it there.

I didn’t get it at home and didn’t often stay school dinners either. I first tasted spam in my twenties fried it was ok but not really for me. My mum sometimes bought what the butcher called sliced Ulster fry years ago. It tasted like bacon but the butchers closed down and it’s never been seen since.

Jezebel Ooh, that's odd, I assumed we were entitled to have our own opinion...........

HowVeryDareYou Sat 17-Sept-22 21:31:34

sorry, Redhead56, I didn't mean to highlight your post

HowVeryDareYou Sat 17-Sept-22 21:32:32

oh for the love of God, that remark was meant for BlondieScot

Blondiescot Sat 17-Sept-22 21:40:35

Isn't that exactly what I said though?

Redhead56 Sat 17-Sept-22 21:43:53

I laughed at it been called a few things in my time!

merlotgran Sat 17-Sept-22 21:48:49

I could never stand the ghastly stuff, especially fried.

Wyllow3 Sat 17-Sept-22 21:51:14

Never. I don't know how we escaped it though, Mum must have taken against it.

HowVeryDareYou Sat 17-Sept-22 22:17:51

Blondiescot You felt the need to highlight my comment but not the posts of anyone else who said they don't like the stuff.
Odd.

CanadianGran Sat 17-Sept-22 22:20:17

No! I bought it once because my son asked me about it, but none of them liked it, and I thought it was awful.

I do seem to remember corned beef sandwiches when I was a child, and I think I barely put up with it. It was on the same level as head-cheese or liver pate. It was eaten, but not enjoyed.

biglouis Sat 17-Sept-22 22:45:50

I love spam and tomato sandwiches soaked in salt and vinegar
