Some people can be so insular and totally lose the ability to see the larger picture.

Well there you have it. The deaths of ordinary people, in 2 world wars, the holocaust, covid, the black death count as nothing. One old woman being buried tops them all.

I must admit that my first thought was what about Hiroshima. And I’m someone that has watched pretty much all of the coverage and shed tears over The Queens death.

I think it would have been more accurate to have said it "is one of the most important events the UK has ever seen"
There is no doubt it is a very important event and means a lot to many people.

It certainly will be for a large section of the British population- but certainly not all. But as far is the World is concerned- his comment is nonsense.

My comment went far beyond his latest comment. He has proven to be a very poor Speaker in the House, with little authority or control.

No odder than what was said about Mr Speaker.

He’s talking about ‘an event’, not a process like women getting the vote, or a coronation.
I don’t know enough about other ‘events’ to know whether the speaker is giving simply his point of view.
The death of the Queen, the ceremony that we see daily in the build up to the funeral is more momentous than anything else in my lifetime
