What has happened to Cherie Blair?

In yesterday’s coverage from Windsor she appeared to be walking with quite a marked limp/odd gait and was wearing flat ‘sensible’ shoes. Has she had a hip or knee replacement I wonder?

I can't believe that Cherie would be waiting for a hip operation! The Blairs are not short of a bob or two.

My first thought! Now there’s a man I despise.,..

Yes, just noticed that, they are not flatties.

Nothing wrong with her academic career Jane let’s not pretend any of it was physical - as Anne’s was, to her obvious benefit in her latter years.

childbearing and giving birth can hardly be describe as not being physical but I am going to be controversial now, I don't think having lots of children is kind on women's bodies either. I know Cherie was Catholic too, so maybe God has had a hand to play in her gait

Four isn't lots in the big scheme of things.

I don’t think the comments about Cherie are bitchy. She has put on a lot of weight. That’s a fact. As is the effect of carrying extra weight if she has hip, knee or foot problems, as seems likely. Her job is largely sedentary. Her outfit perhaps wasn’t the most flattering despite money being no object, her choice though.

She has done rather well from shaky beginnings. Laziness is unlikely to be one of her vices.

She actually looks a bit like me, and she’s got 18 years on me!

FannyCornforth Wed 21-Sept-22 10:37:59

I honestly can’t see what’s wrong?

I’m surprised at the lack of empathy. Cherie Blair looks more like the average British woman of around 70 than Princess Anne does, and her lifestyle is no doubt more like a lot of ours are too. Perhaps she has problems with her feet, as a lot of us also do?

I haven't worn heels for years for good reason. Perhaps Cherie hasn't either.
Not sure I'd attempt wearing any for the first time at such a public event.

Luck, genes and looking after yourself- Anne got all three, Cherie? None! Nothing she could do about the first two but she’s not renowned for her exercise regime either!

Cherie Blair must have had some luck and good genes, after all she became a QC, despite her mother having worked in a fish & chip shop to make ends meet when the father abandoned the family. Can't have been easy.

As for looking after herself and not being renowned for her exercise regime... I've absolutely no idea about these matters.

I admire Princess Anne greatly. I think she has great strength of character and it shows, in my humble opinion.

Urmstongran Wed 21-Sept-22 10:04:49

I agree that Anne looked too thin. A friend of mine of the same age looks similar and the Blood Transfusion Service wouldn’t allow her to donate a few years back.

annodomini Wed 21-Sept-22 10:01:50

Princess Anne, in uniform, was able to evade the judgements of the fashion police, but when she walked to the aircraft at Edinburgh airport, it was noticeable that he legs were like matchsticks, suggesting that she was probably under-weight. She had been with the Queen a lot at Balmoral and most likely had borne, more than her brothers, the brunt of her mother's failing health. She's not one to wear her heart on her sleeve but she does look very care-worn.

I’m sorry you felt the comments were bitchy GS mine was certainly not meant to be - at what point though does an observation become “bitchy” ?

JaneJudge Wed 21-Sept-22 09:50:17

We weren't all being bitchy!

GrannySomerset Wed 21-Sept-22 09:11:36

Nothing like a group of women for being vile about another woman. Very disappointed by this bitchy thread and can only assume that the critical observers are themselves cast in the Princess Anne mould and not the little dumpy mould of so many of us

FannyCornforth Wed 21-Sept-22 09:01:34

Casdon I’m actually disgusted by some of the comments on here.

Sticking to the original thread :
I was a bit shocked at Cherie Blair's appearance .
She's put on a lot of weight and walks with difficulty .

I relate to this - I've gone up two dress sizes and a bad fall has damaged my knee .

However - financing a hip /knee replacement would not be a problem for the Blairs !

Esmay Wed 21-Sept-22 08:47:28

I was also struck by how well Princess Anne is .
She walked with such ease .
When stationary - she stood stock still .
I also think that it's her horse riding that keeps her core strong .
You need strength , control and balance to ride .

FannyCornforth Wed 21-Sept-22 08:34:48

Sorry welbeck, I didn’t read the entire thread (I was a bit taken aback by some rather childish posts).
I didn’t realise that I was needlessly repeating what you had already explained about Leo and Balmoral blush

Lesley60 Wed 21-Sept-22 04:28:53

I think the style of Cherie Blair’s dress made her look bigger than she is

FannyCornforth Wed 21-Sept-22 01:34:48

I’ve just remembered something! TM (but oddly topical) I alert.
JaneJudge Cherie and Tony did indeed use contraception.
I remember from years ago that their youngest, Leo, was conceived because Cherie ‘forgot her cap’.
I also vaguely remember a royal residence being involved.
After a bit of googling, it emerges that Leo was actually conceived while the Blairs were visiting Balmoral.

I’m sure that she speaks very highly of you.
How rude.
