Pj wearers taking children to school,

I go around in kaftans all the time - including going out (rarely done and always by car or taxi). I just throw a coat on top. I cant remember the last time I got dressed in "proper" clothes. However I dont wear any clothes in bed and always have a shower when I wake up. At 78 I dont give a dogs damn what anyone thinks. Ive made my contribution to the community.

There are all sorts of excuses, if anyone feels the need to excuse what they do, or how they choose to present.

Height of laziness and I can't believe people are makung excuses for them
No excuse for not getting dressed.
I grew up in a really poor, deprived area. Our parents managed to get dressed in the mornings somehow.

How good it is in this world of economic crisis, war in Ukraine, nuclear threats from Putin, catastrophic floods in Pakistan and climate change, that stressing about what other people wear on the school run can still feature in anybody’s thinking.

It's good for our mental health to worry about the small stuff as it takes our minds off the big stuff. Who wants to think about all those massive worries when we can think about mums in pyjamas, Harry & Meghan, what's on TV, and the best way to sort through old photos. These things keep us sane.

In all honesty I was often surprised that I got the right children at the right school with all their relevant accoutrements. Even on the day when there was a teacher training day and they shouldn’t have been there ???? (they will never let me forget that one)

In hindsight I have no idea how I coped, or indeed how our business survived

I know several who wear pjs to take their own children to school.

It does matter what parents wear to take their children to school. After all you won’t find the teachers in their pyjamas. Nightwear is for night time. Onesies are for babies and young children.

I will put my hands up and admit that with a newborn baby and older children to get to school I frequently through my coat over my night wear, threw them all in the car and jut opened the door outside the appropriate school and deposited them as close as possible. This was repeated with the youngest two of the five,

I would then go home shower, feed baby (again) and get myself into the office along with all the paraphernalia needed for baby, it really was work, sleep repeat for several years.

I didn't have a car and it was a long way to walk to school, pushing a pram.

So yes, I got dressed. After all, one had to keep up standards in Richmond-upon-Thames

It doesn't worry me what parents wear on the school run. (An aside: when I worked in TV the early morning newsreader used to come into the studio in his pyjamas and put a jacket, shirt and tie over them to read the news. The viewers had no idea he had pyjama bottoms on under the desk.)

As for pjs, I went to meet my son in Newcastle one lunch time, and two girls were at the bus stop in the flimsiest fake satin pjs. No one gave them a second glance except me

I rarely wear my nightie downstairs, never mind outside. Only on Saturday mornings when I strip the bed and pop down to put the sheets in the machine before I have my shower.

Nightwear is for upstairs and sleeping. I would try hard not to judge anyone who goes out in pjs though.

Agree with you Maw, what on earth does it matter, often hang my washing out in my dressing gown, take the bins out or go to the car in driveway to get something out that I have left in it all in my dressing gown and I live on a main road. But I have cleaned my teeth and had a quick wash over on getting up

I bought a pair of tracksuit bottoms with a sweatshirt type top in a medium weight material and when I got them home realised that they were virtually the same as pjs bought from a totally different shop some time previously. Maybe I could get away with it, if paired up with trainers! How would anyone tell?

I couldn't bear to go out in nightwear, even if it was just to collect get the bin. Just for my personal pride I have to be properly dressed.

No matter how bad I've felt (physically or emotionally) I must wash and dress every day. The one exception was when I had pneumonia and couldn't stop coughing for long enough to make the effort - spent six weeks lolling about on the sofa. I don't want to go through that again.
