I don’t listen to him. I find him irritating. But he is popular and as we share a birthday (same age too!) I do tend to notice stuff in the press about him.

Will any of you tune in?
Or contact him to say “Lovin’ the Show Steve!”?

Definitely. I’m a fan of Radio 2. There seems to be quite a shuffle going on sadly. I usually listen to SW, and always listen to the wonderful Ken Bruce. I realise time moves on but the younger DJ’s aren’t for me. If that was the case I’d be listening to Radio 1.

I may listen, it's a shame he's being moved in some ways. I understand the powers that be want younger DJs to attract a younger audience. Do they not understand that there's always going to be a supply of older people listening to R2 as the years roll by?

If they try to get rid of Ken Bruce I propose that we GNrs march on the BBC with placards and rotten fruit to throw at the children who run it these days.

Georgesgran Fri 30-Sept-22 13:20:06

It’s sort of the end of an era. I always listened to SW going out on the afternoon school run. Mornings going in used to be Simon Mayo, then he swapped, so we could listen on the way home.
I like Sarah Cox, but not keen on Zoe Ball. Who gets Steve’s slot?

Mapleleaf Fri 30-Sept-22 13:36:52

I used to quite like his show, but then it became rather silly and I found him irritating, so I stopped listening. So, in answer to your question, no I won’t be tuning in to his last show. His programme won’t be missed by me.

Aveline Fri 30-Sept-22 13:38:08

Very sorry about this. I always enjoyed his show. It was a bit different and pleasantly daft.
Very dull on radio 2 without Terry and Steve.

Casdon Fri 30-Sept-22 13:42:21

I won’t, he irritates me. If it was Ken Bruce they were getting rid of I’d be out with my placard though.

OJ Borg apparently from next week?

Casdon Fri 30-Sept-22 14:03:29

Scott Mills from Radio 1 is permanently replacing Steve Wright. I’d have preferred Gary Davies or Vernon Kay myself. OJ is good too.

Yup. smile

Ken should be in the breakfast slot. It’s practically his birthright.
But too male, too stale etc
I can’t believe that the useless Ball is still there.

Aveline Fri 30-Sept-22 14:23:07

Ken's nice but boring! Can't stand Zoe Ball and her gushing. Vernon Kay's good though.

I thought it was Scott Mills. He is moving over from Radio One.

I have never heard him so can't comment.

I didn't listen to Steve Wright very often as I am usually at work. However, on the odd occasions I did listen it felt like deja vu - the same stuff every time. Couldn't stand the serious jokin' feature which seemed to be on every time I finished early on a Friday

Poppyred Fri 30-Sept-22 14:36:48

Very sad, I love his programme. ?

FannyCornforth Fri 30-Sept-22 15:03:15

In Steve’s favour, he was absolutely magnificent in the 80’s

mamaa Fri 30-Sept-22 16:01:01

Listening as I type Urms- he really has been a backdrop to my life similar to how Georgesgran described upthread.
There is only Ken B left- and when he goes I shan’t listen to Radio 2 in the week anymore- although will still tune in to Steve Wrights Love Songs on Sundays.
Actually now I listen mainly to GHR with Mark Goodier in the morning and Simon Mayo on Drivetime- hoping Steve Wright will join them!

Kandinsky Fri 30-Sept-22 16:05:08

I’ll miss him. sad

Soroptimum Fri 30-Sept-22 16:13:59

Was so pleased that Scott Mills got Steve’s slot - bear with me! We were dreading him permanently taking over from Ken!!!
Will miss Steve in the week, but we’ve still got him on Sundays.

farview Fri 30-Sept-22 17:33:42

I will miss his show...another here who cannot stand the Zoe Ball show...used to love radio 2 in the morning...dont listen now....enjoy Sara Cox show ..

Sarah74 Fri 30-Sept-22 20:55:20

OJ Borg seems to be doing Steve’s show next week, then I think Scott Mills will do it permanently.
I enjoy Sara Cox in the afternoon too, farview - I think she has a good manner. I used to Like Simon Mayo…….

Years ago, driving to work, it was Terry Wogan, I’m sure it was - loved his “dulcet tones “

JaneJudge Fri 30-Sept-22 21:00:22

I like Zoe Ball, Ken Bruce and Steve Wright and Scott Mills

Yes, I used to listen to Terry Wogan on the way to work. Loved his Janet and John stories grin

Millie22 Fri 30-Sept-22 21:32:53

I still miss Simon Mayo with his drivetime slot. Why do we have to lose people who are so good and have them replaced by others who are not.

Just saying.

I'm not very keen on silly Sara. Steve Wright was great years ago on radio 1 and I'll sort of miss the 'love your show and great show' nonsense.

Ailsa43 Fri 30-Sept-22 21:44:00

I cannot bear Steve Wright, he's very immature with all his serious Jockin' and silly voices, and his little posse of sycophants but by the same token, I think it's ridiculous to remove him from his slot. I'm a Radio 2 listener only.. I'm dreading 80's and 90's being played like Sara Cox does... I never listen to her show... and I'm not much older than her I'm no ancient fuddy duddy

I thought Radio 1 was the place for younger DJ's and even younger music.. which is why I choose to get my music from radio 2.. but perhaps for not much longer
