A warm welcome Grannyeggs, lovely to have you with us lot in the kitchen.

brook and Naughtyneine Your kind words mean a lot to me. Thank you.

Although I could wade through fragments of your previous messages (interrupted by many adverts), the entire format of the forum had altered. A friend told us to "refresh" the entire contents of our computer, which was duly done in almost five and a half hours. What caused the blip? I have no idea. Now that I am back with you, my frazzled temper has calmed down somewhat.

I painted a wee portrait of a loved pet and posted it on Friday. It appears to be travelling via the scenic route. It has not been delivered...yet. hmm

Blossoming You, dear lady, are a gold-star trooper.

I have never known a month quite so fraught with sadness as this. At the moment, we have five friends who are needing special comfort.

I am about to contact one friend of fifty years. Her husband has been going through a terrible time since his foot was amputated.

When I return, I shall hopefully be in a more cheerful frame of mind.

Good afternoon kitcheners. I thought I had posted yesterday but apparently not. Suedonim my mum is very tricky and can be downright nasty at times so I sympathise. I'm sorry for the poorly amongst us and for Naughty's fall into the dog bed. Hellogirl I was sad to hear about your son.
Yesterday dgs1 went home early as he was feeling poorly. I think he really missed his mum. I was disappointed as I'd planned to take him to a park he hasn't been to but c'est la vie. Today I visited mum and stayed for over an hour as she was chatty (and pleasant). She wants to give me money and I keep saying no because her gifts come with strings! I'm probably cutting off my nose to spite my face. I have always been fiercely independent and hate owing anyone anything. My friend is away just now so no visit to her.
This afternoon I'm being lazy and just pottering around the house. It's too miserable to go into the garden. Chilli and pita bread for dinner. Have a good afternoon kitcheners

Blossoming Wed 19-Oct-22 10:40:46

Good morning dear Kitcheners. I haven’t had hip surgery Neine, I’m glad to report the hips are still just fine. The recovery I referred to is from the brain injury many years ago. I was 75% paralysed at first and the rehab never really stops. Talk about use it or lose it! The 2 surgeries were for bowel cancer and tumours in my neck. My medical history is long and complex grin. Hope your tiredness improves, it’s a real pain x

Naughtyneine Wed 19-Oct-22 09:39:10

Nannytopsy... Please rest as much as you can... I've just entered week 6... I'm still coughing at times and blowing my nose but it's the tiredness that's the worst. I've done 3 helping out shifts at the club but needed most of the next day to recover. I'm sure it must have been Covid but gave up testing in the end.
Urms.... Yes good friendship is priceless isn't it. I have friends that I don't see for years and we just pick up where we left off.
Granmarie...I hope I never need it but I've made a note of the drug your DH was given... Thank God the consultant changed his medication.
Blossoming... I might be confused but did you have hip surgery earlier this year....are you recovering from it ok?
SueD....I think you deserve a holiday.... You are so patient..I think by now I would have skipped a day and when she asked why you hadn't visited I'd have said because I needed a day off from you constantly moaning. ( Well in my head that's what I'd do). I hope the cat at least is getting better now.
Baggs and Hellogirl...I hope you find a little bit of peace and calmness today from the worry of your beloved children. X
Soop... Once again Thank you for giving us a place to share our joys and sorrows ...our worries and aches and pains.
Talking of aches and pains.. I'm really stiff from the 7 hour shift last night and have just bent down to stroke dog2 and gone headlong into his bed. The look on his face was a picture but he just moved up to accommodate me and put his head on my leg...gave it a quick lick and closed his eyes. Probably just as well as the sight of a naked Nneine walking on her knees across the bedroom floor until she could haul herself up onto the bed isn't a sight to be seen even for a dog. Dog 1 barked then ran downstairs and Dog3 did something quite unmentionable in her fright and I now have window wide open. Is it really only 9.30??????

Grannmarie Tue 18-Oct-22 21:57:26

I am so sorry to hear that Blossoming and Nannytopsy have lost dear friends to sepsis. I know DH was a lucky man to survive it this summer. Things were not looking good, they couldn't get the infection under control until they changed his antibiotics to Tazocin, on tbe advice of the microbiologists.
If any of your loved ones are ever in that position, God forbid, please insist that they are given Tazocin.

TOYA, NNGB ??

SueDonim Tue 18-Oct-22 21:48:08

I’m sorry that GNetters and families are still suffering from Covid and other bugs and germs. It’s miserable. flowers. Baggs and Hellogirl are in my thoughts, too.

My ds is home, indeed has gone to work, and seems much brighter now. This is the accumulation of months of being below par and I think it’s a relief to finally be near to a diagnosis and then access treatment. GNetters kind wishes have been much appreciated by me. smile

Can you believe it, my cat is now ill! ? It’s a chronic problem he has, of recurrent cat flu. A course of antibiotics usually sorts him out - a cool £70. It’s a good thing we love them, isn’t it?

Apart from that, it’s been a beautiful day. Chilly first thing at 6.5 but by this afternoon it was 15.5. We took the opportunity to go to a nearby small town and have lunch out. It was a newly opened cafe and very busy. I slowly became aware that many of the ladies in there ‘of a certain age’ were not sipping on coffee like me, they were knocking back glasses of wine with their meals! It was a very jolly atmosphere in there - I think I’ll be joining them next time! ?

Not so many complaints from my mother today, although she is now forensically asking me the whereabouts of items from when she was taken off to hospital in early July, such as the packet of cereal she’d left on the worktop! She seemed quite affronted that I’d thrown out an open packet of now-very-stale cornflakes. ? How she remembers these things, I do not know - I can scarcely remember what I had for breakfast today, let alone more than three months ago!

I saw my two local GC briefly today. The baby now knows us very well and puts his arms out to come to us. Isn’t it nice to be wanted?

Tomorrow I’ve got my flu and Covid vax. Hopefully it’ll be fine, I don’t recall much reaction from them last year.

Take care everyone. Xxx

Sending hugs to all mums who have worries about their ACs ,we never stop do we. Glad you got sorted SoopIts been a lovely day here today but looking at forecast it isn't going to last.

‘Evening All’

From warm Málaga! It’s so nice to be back in our ‘happy place’. I do love it out here. We had a very misty start to the day, albeit very mild, but by noon the sun was cracking the flags. My kind of weather! But the October sun is warming rather than blistering so it’s very pleasant.

I had my LWW group this afternoon. We have met up every week (holidays permitting) for so many years that we have a real depth of friendship now. We know one another back to front and inside out. We’ve occasionally met each other’s visiting families and we genuinely care about one another. Meaningful friendships do mean such a lot in our lives don’t they? Family are definitely wonderful but friends are (in my opinion) the icing on the cake.

I’m another who is sad to hear the news about your son Hellogirl. I can only imagine your anxiety right now and my heart goes out to you.

I’m thinking of Baggs too. That little family of yours were to have a limited pow-wow at the weekend weren’t they? I admire the fortitude of you all and can only hope that those young boys are coping with the devastating news as best they can. x

For anyone in the kitchen tonight struggling with family worries, may your hearts find ease and your minds solace somehow from somewhere.

Blossoming Tue 18-Oct-22 20:11:07

Good evening lovely Kitcheners. Another day of bright sunshine and low temperatures.

I have been outside for a short while, dealt with laundry, then Mr. B and I had a few things discuss and plans to make. No decisions can be made until I’ve had my eye clinic consultation but it’s good to know what we can expect. It’s been a busy day here one way or another, I’m now showered and all wrapped up in my huge fluffy dressing gown for the first time since last winter. Hot chocolate shortly and an early night.

I’m so glad to see you back Soop and glad you’ve been able to speak to Bagga. I often wonder how Panache is getting on.

Sending love and healing thoughts to those with troubles. Goodnight all ??

Nannytopsy Tue 18-Oct-22 20:02:06

Hello Grannyeggs and everyone else in the kitchen. I had a mother too! As her only daughter there were different expectations.
I have had a bit or a sore throat, then a bit of a cough, then a tight wheezy cough and a runny nose today. Cold? Covid? Someone from WI last Wednesday phoned this morning to say she has just tested positive. Oh what a buggeration! DD was coming with DGS on Sunday and I delayed her, then those silly young men stopped all the traffic around east London, so they haven’t come. ? It’s for the best but still.
Very best wishes to all with worries. We have lost a friend from the village this week. Another case of sepsis I think.
Sleep tight everyone xx

Jaxjacky Tue 18-Oct-22 19:30:03

Hear, hear brook an oasis of refuge with support.
I’m hoping too that hellogirl and SueD get some positive news soon.
Thank you all for your dental support, it was a complex, large filling, 40 minutes in the chair, I now have to make a decision on a denture. I wish I know some 30 years ago what I know now, hindsight eh!
I think I’d be ‘educated’ too Grannmarie, well done to you.
I don’t get the ads on my iPad, hope soop is getting sorted and welcome back Grannyeggs.
Awaiting a non numb mouth so I can eat, nearly there, enjoy your evening all x

soop Tue 18-Oct-22 19:26:56

It has taken a total of five hours and eighteen minutes to get back into GN. Don't ask hmm. I shall tell you more tomorrow. Suffice to say that the kitchen forum (for me) was utterly chaotic. Huge gaps all over the place and countless b*** adverts.

I am very sorry to hear that Hellogirl1 has worrying news to share with us. I shall re-read all your messages tomorrow and respond accordingly.

I was able to speak on the phone to Baggs prior to the buggerations. Also, Panache sent me a very kind and moving long private message. Much love to you both.

I'm away. At least I know that the forum has been restored. Such a blessed relief.

Goodnight. smile moon

brook2704 Tue 18-Oct-22 18:24:26

Thanks to everyone and especially Soop for making this such a warm friendly kitchen - no matter what life throws at us all there’s always friends here to support us in good times and bad. I feel very lucky to be a small part of this

Hellogirl1 Tue 18-Oct-22 18:14:31

All my best wishes to everyone struggling with illness, pain, and poorly family members. I`m not very good with words, but I do feel for you all.

And those stupid video ads are still there, GRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 18-Oct-22 17:41:55

I do hope Soop isn’t lost in a sea of adverts!?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 18-Oct-22 17:33:31

Sending (((hugs))) to our kitchen mums with very poorly children ??‍♀️

kittylester Tue 18-Oct-22 17:16:40

I've just come back to say that I, too, had a mother - so to those of you struggling with yours - I feel your pain.

Grannmarie Tue 18-Oct-22 16:51:38

Good afternoon, Soop and lovely Kitchen people! Hello ? and welcome Grannyeggs.

It's a lovely autumnal afternoon in Lanarkshire, nice to see the sunshine ☀.

My sister and I went to Aquafit this morning, first time I've been since the pandemic! We really enjoyed it, so we've booked for next week.
Yesterday I accompanied DH to his Strength and Balance class, at the same Sports Centre as the Aquafit. The receptionist was a former pupil of mine, lovely girl. I have happy memories of taking classes of children there for swimming lessons many years ago. Our school was within walking distance so we usually got the first slot,9.30, because
we could be there quickly. I was fit and slim in those days!

Although I was just there to support DH today, I was given a stretchy band and expected to join in! Nothing ventured.... this class is a NHS referral for people with mobility issues, so I thought
' This'll be a doddle,' but I was humbled and a bit challenged by some of the exercises! DH became breathless quite quickly but he persevered, he's determined to complete this 20 week course.

Childcare with DGS2 tomorrow, another active day, lots of fun, then dentist on Thursday. I hope Jaxjacky gets on OK at her appointment.

Hellogirl and SueD, thinking of you and sending love and prayers for your AC, we don't stop worrying about them just because they are grown up. ??

Brook, good to hear that you had a lovely meet up with your DS and Partner, special times.

Blossoming, Kitty and Blade Annie hope you feel better soon.

TOYA, especially Baggs and her DD.

Have a peaceful evening. ?

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 18-Oct-22 16:08:41

I am waiting for OH to help me measure up for new curtains in the lounge, but he’s playing with his new electric blanket! We finally got down to the, hopefully, perfect fabric out of 20 samples. Elder son’s partner helped over the weekend. I have so many samples for the new curtains we’ve had made so far, I could make a gigantic quilt. Maybe I will. I hope everyone has had a good day and if not, tomorrow is a new day.???

Yiayia4 Tue 18-Oct-22 16:01:42

Sorry about your son Hellogirl I hope he gets the treatment he needs.?
That ankle sounds very painful BladeAnnie take care.

Is a lovely day here but I can barely stand or walk my back is terrible today, so frustrating when it happens!
Hope all went well at the dentist Jax brave lady.
Hello Grannyeggs.Thinkingof you Baggs
Have a pleasant evening everyone.

kittylester Tue 18-Oct-22 15:30:02

Hello grannyeggs, I think I remember your name and mine has always been the same.

Hellogirl, (I think I still call you Number by mistake) I hope you hear something soon. Waiting is awful isn't it?

Hi, Baggs, hope you are bearing up. We are here should you need us - whenever you need us.

Hope things are are calmer BA. And hope you can avoid the ads today Soop.

Hopefully back later.

Hellogirl1 Tue 18-Oct-22 15:12:52

Thank you to everyone. My son spent nearly 6 hours at the hospital, had 2 pints of blood. He still hasn`t got a date for his scan.
Welcome back Grannyeggs, I was probably still Numberplease when you were here before.
It`s a beautiful day here, very warm for mid October.

brook2704 Tue 18-Oct-22 14:57:13

Welcome Grannyeggs lovely to see you in the kitchen
Oh BladeAnnie hopefully your poor ankle will be better soon and not cause any more trouble - take it easy and no jumping around
I’ve just had the fright of my life whilst sitting here for 5 mins with my cuppa, the window cleaner just popped up at the window, I’d not heard him at all! Then I felt bad that I was looking lazy just sat on the sofa with my feet up … so I’d best get back out into the garden again now and look busy ?

BladeAnnie Tue 18-Oct-22 13:37:52

Good afternoon dear kitcheners. sueD I wonder if your mum is related to my mum....that all sounds so very familiar ??. Whinge away - I know exactly where you are coming from ?. Brook - one or two problems with DD1 which we manged to work through. I've also found out I have a stress fracture in my left ankle ?. I have a lot of metalwork in my right ankle/foot and my orthopaedic consultant gave me a boot for the left but if it causes any problems with the right I must not use it. So guess what??? Yes I'm going to have to he very careful what I do for a while. Apparently this type of fracture can take longer to heal than if a bone completely snaps!! I hate to complain because so many of you have far more than this going on in your lives. TOYA ??

SueDonim Tue 18-Oct-22 12:58:36

Ah, I thought you meant you’d name-changed! grin
