I think it has to be passed by the governing principals of gransnet, first, in which case formal written permission may be granted in exceptional circumstances.

Was it Punch or Private Eye that referred to Sir Keith Joseph as The Mad Monk? I thought it rather suited him.

I apologise for commenting a bit late on this topic. The last coronation in Sweden was for Oscar II in 1873. Since then there have been no coronations. In 1907 the new King, Gustav V, declared a coronation would be inappropriate since it was seen to be out of step with the times. People no longer believed that God was involved in the making of Kings and Queens, there was a lot of poverty in the country and a general feeling that the monarchy needed to modernise. I suspect the new King was anxious to secure it for the future and put a more humane face on it.

King Charles is already King. A coronation, in my opinion, is just theatre. But, of course we will all get an extra Bank Holiday so that settles the matter!

Another latecomer here. The crown has passed seamlessly to Charles so why the need for a coronation? Gustav V had the right idea.

Of course they should have a coronation. We want to see it and it will be a happy occasion unlike the last public processions for the late Queen. If you don’t like it, don’t watch.

I'm going away on holiday.

It wouldn't make me happy. But there you go. Each to their own.

I am looking forward to it. I have my coach ticket, overnight from Cornwall, and have a folding stick seat to take weight off while I wait for the procession. I don't see the relevance of telling us what happens in other countries. This is us celebrating our tradition.

In Scotland, the kings used to have to climb Dunadd and place their foot in an indentation in the rock.

Now that's a tradition I'd travel by bus to see Charles upholding.
