Fed up with Strictly!

OK before you all pile in on me let me explain!

This is not my kind of programme but I know it is very popular and it is not compulsory so I watch something else, no problem with that, my local newspaper prints several articles about Strictly every day, again I don't have to read them so skip past them. What is really getting to me is the presenters on my local radio station seem obsessed with it. Every other item is about Strictly!

I listen to this station because it is the only local "talk" station rather than playing music all the time. I like to hear local news stories, local weather and traffic news. What I am getting is Strictly, local news story, Strictly, traffic news, Strictly, news bulletin, Strictly!!!!! It is driving me mad

Will now don my tin hat and hide behind the sofa!!

I stopped watching years ago. Just too long winded for my liking but lots of people enjoy it.

I couldn’t possibly disagree with those who are fed up with the format. Sadly it appears that we are in the minority as it’s a very popular programme. At least it’s something that brings people together and contains no violence or gloom. We don’t have to watch it but let’s leave the many fans in peace!

Wades Nan…. Haven’t you realised yet they people are being dumbed down by this crap tv programming. I have ….my tv now gone the way of the dodo…as has my daughters and she’s got two kids ….after 2 weeks the kids didn’t care less…. got their books… their football practise….their volley ball ….their MMA…..( fight club) and their phones for keeping in touch with freinds, and playing games on….no social media WHATSOEVER!!! But then my daughter is a child psychologist and has seen first hand d the danger in social media….or as she calls it a forum for bullying! No ….as a family we don’t do crap!

Nanatoone Thu 13-Oct-22 12:49:17

I dip in and out, didn’t watch for some years due to irritation with the format. All that hideous waiting to find out who is in the bottom two. So boring and humiliating for the people involved. Also the presenters are not my cup of tea at all. I do like the dancing though. Keeeeeep dancing….

Lesley60 Thu 13-Oct-22 12:48:04

I used to like strictly when it began years ago and you recognised the celebrities, but now I feel they are scraping the barrel and I don’t recognise and haven’t heard of the majority of them so have lost interest and don’t care who wins, I often wonder apart from their family and friends does anyone really bother picking up the phone and voting for these so called celebs.

Jaxie Thu 13-Oct-22 12:46:28

Some very good sense talked. I don’t watch it because I hate the vulgarity of the sexualised costumes.

Madashell Thu 13-Oct-22 12:24:21

It is a bit of a yawn fest mostly but there is the occasional exceptional performance. Cut the twaddle, cut the “journeys I’m on”, get rid of Daley and Winkleman, I want to be entertained and I’m past caring about their private lives (not that I was ever interested).
Much prefer world drama (Walter Presents) on More4

Camelotclub Thu 13-Oct-22 12:14:40

The Beeb are going to milk it for all they can if they have a popular show. Myself I can't stand it and don't watch it. Migraine-inducing with all that noise and lights. But it's popular so, milk milk!

Bazza Thu 13-Oct-22 11:59:20

I used to enjoy it but I’ve just got really fed up with it for the same reasons that have been mentioned. I’m one of the million of lost viewers who have become bored with the whole format.

What really irritates me is how they still try to make us believe that the results are happening on Sunday when everyone knows it happens on Saturday night. The judges and presenters all change clothes, just ridiculous.

IrishDancing Thu 13-Oct-22 11:48:07

I watched Strictly till this year but, like others, got fed up with all the hype and screaming and weeping of relations etc. I gave up watching It Takes Two when Zoe Ball left. But I might start recording Strictly and fast forwarding over the nonsense, so thanks ChelseaJay for the suggestion.

TanaMa Thu 13-Oct-22 11:35:16

Startingover61. I too used to watch with my now deceased friend and enjoyed our own format for judging!!
However, today I don't recognise many of the 'celeberities' and Tess and Claudia are so OTT false!

Nannipocci1 Thu 13-Oct-22 11:34:04

Is it about entertainment. Dancing. Or political correctness!! ?

ParlorGames Thu 13-Oct-22 11:28:04

I confess, I have never felt inclined to watch it. I used to work shifts which interrupted TV viewing immensley so being able to follow any series was difficult.
I just think Strictly is yet another reality series in fancy clothes.

BlueBelle

I don’t watch Strictly as I cannot bear all the over the top screaming and cheering and whoops and fake joy I obviously see bits and bobs while waiting for other programmes etc and have occasionally looked at ten minutes of it out of curiosity as to whose on it
About 80% of the people involved I haven’t got a clue who they are and like a very sweet nerangue I couldn’t manage a whole one
It’s all the awful fakeness I just can’t bear

I hate all the yelling, screaming and whistling.

Startingover61 Thu 13-Oct-22 11:15:19

I used to watch Strictly when my friend was alive; we used to chat about our favourite celebrities. I’ve not watched it since she died in 2018 as, apart from changes in the judges, everything seems the same: format, comments, inane chat from Tess and Claudia…

nadateturbe Tue 11-Oct-22 22:45:28

It must be very annoying WadesNan. Perhaps let them know how you feel.

I don't watch. Much too noisy, same with talent shows.

Much preferred Come Dancing, which I watched as a child.

ChelseaJay29 Tue 11-Oct-22 22:34:02

I too download or record it ...only interested in the actual dancing and scores. Its a much shorter programme which is good for me. I do the same with programmes with ads

As this is chat, I can diverge.

Anyone who says they don't watch Strictly because it's "woke" or men should be in tails, you missed Nikita and Carlos, and Adam's singing. My goodness, your loss.

Side note - how do you samba in tails?

Not tails volver but the sort of outfit my mum thought acceptable www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjzgSpHhbBk

?

I've gone off Strictly too. Camilla Long said in last Sunday's Sunday Times that there is an 'unseen American hand' making changes to a more sensationalist show full of pseudo emotional outpourings.

CanadianGran Tue 11-Oct-22 22:03:17

We don't have that particular show, but an American one very similar, Dancing with the Stars. I may have watched the first season, and while I appreciate talent, hate the format of all these reality shows. I find as they get past 2 or 3 seasons, the celebrities are mostly unknowns, and I can't handle all the background audience screaming. Same goes for singing shows, game shows, etc.

WadesNan, can you email in a complaint to the radio station? You may not be the only one thinking the same thing.

Muffintop Tue 11-Oct-22 19:49:47

Try listening to LBC,. if you want a talk only radio.

ElaineI Tue 11-Oct-22 18:29:53

Can't stand Strictly. Not a problem as don't watch it but agree with OP - when it is Strictly season it seems to be talked about on BBC way too often.

sodapop Tue 11-Oct-22 18:20:38

The whole thing is silly now and far removed from it's beginnings. Time it was pensioned off.
I agree Midgey Bargain Hunt is on seven days a week and well past it's sell by date.

Smileless2012 Tue 11-Oct-22 17:39:51

Watched one episode of the last series and was put off by all the over the top screaming and cheering and whoops and fake joy as you've said BlueBelle.

It's all the awful fakeness I just can't bear me too.
