Fed up with Strictly!

It’s difficult when swimming against the tide.

I know exactly what you mean, it happens more and more (not necessarily Strictly) overkill of a programme or situation. No where to hide, it must be really frustrating for you,

I know just what you mean-I agree!
I LOVE dance and music but it does go on. I record the show so that I can whizz through and just watch the dances and listen to the fabulous musicians and singers too.
I can’t bear all this woke nonsense or whatever it is with same sex couples.

No tin hat needed! I too have never watched it, but am pretty bored with the number of times it is the central topic on news programmes or feeds.

OK before you all pile in on me let me explain!

This is not my kind of programme but I know it is very popular and it is not compulsory so I watch something else, no problem with that, my local newspaper prints several articles about Strictly every day, again I don't have to read them so skip past them. What is really getting to me is the presenters on my local radio station seem obsessed with it. Every other item is about Strictly!

I listen to this station because it is the only local "talk" station rather than playing music all the time. I like to hear local news stories, local weather and traffic news. What I am getting is Strictly, local news story, Strictly, traffic news, Strictly, news bulletin, Strictly!!!!! It is driving me mad

Will now don my tin hat and hide behind the sofa!!

I agree with all you said,a load of D listers and judges who are getting nastier by the year. All that money spent on sets and costumes when we should be looking at the footwork and dancing which now seems secondary to the programme.

The OP isn't complaining about Strictly though, is she?

That must be a darned nuisance, I agree. Hopefully your local radio station will get bored with it. I love strictly but wouldn't want it all over the radio etc.

all local radio stations are BBC and Strictly is a bbc show so of course they have to keep plugging away same as bbc tv.
gone off strictly, don't know the celebs these days.

Nasty judges ??? Craig is honest and sometimes negative but he knows his stuff. The others just gush . No idea who you are talking about.

I listen to radio 6 Music and I don’t think they mention Strictly much, if at all. I used to watch Strictly in the early years but found Bruce Forsyth so annoying I gave up. I haven’t gone back.

I've never watched Strictly (or any reality shows or soaps). It doesn't stop some people I know really well starting almost any interaction with the phrase, 'Did you watch Strictly?'

It seems to be one of those shows where if you love it you think everyone must love it and if you've no interest then the level of interest in it baffles.

Stopped watching Strictly ages ago. Occasionally watch one or two dances but it really is boring. They are trying desperately to make it "new" and "relevant" but actually it's the same boring stuff.
My mum and dad were dedicated ballroom and sequence dancers, but my mum hated Strictly. "Men should be in DJs or White tie and tails, and women should look like ladies, and no one threw anyone around".

As this is chat, I'll chat about Strictly on here indefinitely! Mainly because I danced and DD is a dance teacher by profession. DgodD is on West End stage too. I love all forms of dance.

Like others, though, on Strictly I am fed up with the two female judges, the nastiness, the long winded rehearsal videos, the emotional stuff, the hype, the woke nonsense etc etc. Why can't we have a decent master class in say the tango or the Charleston explaining the moves from start to finish with a teacher and a professional? Why can't we have more about the origins of the dance and travel the world a bit to discover these? Instead all we get is boring old wittering.

I think the presenters on your radio programme might actually want it to be all about them and their rantings. Switch them off if they jar.

Anyone who says they don't watch Strictly because it's "woke" or men should be in tails, you missed Nikita and Carlos, and Adam's singing. My goodness, your loss.

Great post Joseanne - I'd definitely watch what you suggest.

I loved watching years ago it was very formal but still enjoyable a different format. I loved the talent the music everything about it but it’s not the same now it’s changed not for the better.
I did watch it because I love the glamour and glitz but I was recording it and fast forwarding it. I got sick of all the chatter with the presenters that goes on in between the dancing I just don’t watch it now.

We watched Strictly and enjoyed it until a couple of years it was our preferred evening viewing for that period of Autumn when the evenings are getting shorter on the run up to Christmas. I appreciate a lot of people still love it, but they have I believe lost around 1 million viewers, possibly like me they got sick of the rather tired format, not the dancing often that was spectacular in the final weeks. For me it was those rather overly long padded out interludes that precede the dance, involving manufactured nonsense. Occasionally during rehearsals they'll have relies wandering in or worse still a bit of sobbing along the lines "I'm doing this for my dead granny/dog/gerbil" or recordings of teared up aged relies saying how proud they are with contestants sobbing in the background responding with the usual hackneyed drivel such as "this journey has changed my life" Too padded out, too long, after watching all of that year on year it was very much a matter of "ffs just do the dance" really don't care about the rest of it, that's when we decided we'd had enough.

Maybe that's because Nikita and Carlos didn't shove anything in our faces or make an exhibition of it. It was pure unadulterated dance, but does the mentality of half the viewers get that?

I agree that this show should not be featuring on the news so much and that the BBC do tend to “ flog” their hit programmes to death.
I enjoy the show because it features a live band who play the most amazing covers of well known recordings.
I am not sure about the current series personally with the unorthodox pairings and am not enjoying this series as much, but the BBC are attempting to put the diversity mantra into action rather than just words so that is a good thing but maybe less effusive chat and sensation in the “back stories” and more about the performances.
I actually think in the last 2 years the judges especially Craig have become kinder.

I have to add…that when I’m in the mood this is still the best entertainment show on mainstream telly for a Saturday evening. ….now if they could just dump that Casualty but I digress.

I totally agree with Granmarderby10, the BBC totally overkill some programmes. Why is Bargain Hunters still on? And much worse Dads Army. Strictly is done to death.

Strictly Take Two (BBC2 6.30 pm) was all about the dance, choreography and costume making.

I haven’t had a chance to catch any of this series, will try to watch tonight to see how it compares to previous years.
