We caved in this morning,……

Our heating has been on timer twice a day now for a couple of weeks. And will remain so until the weather gets warm in Springtime. I don’t want to make the mistake I made a few years ago of having a damp property which happened when I switched off the heating when we went on holiday. Our property took ages to warm through and dry out when we got home.

I’ve got the heating on constant - 16 degrees - have to be warm for the sake of my lungs.

No heating on here yet. Lots of friends and family have turned it into some bizarre competition. Who will crack first!

On at 8 am off at 10am on again 6 pm until 10 pm. All radiators at 2 or 3 and thermostat at 16. That's even with blanket over knees in evening. Heating been operating for past week. Temp today has been 12° with wind making it chill 10°. Live on tge east coast and temp usually cooler than central/southern areas. Government should have considered a bigger allowance for colder areas.

No central heating on but have lit my logburner for a couple of hours on 4 occasions recently. Even if my central heating was on it would struggle to heat my house especially the large upstairs sitting room which is over 10metres long and opens up into a double height glass atrium - fantastic when the sun shines but Baltic when it doesn't! Thankfully big woodburner heats upstairs quickly. Central heating won't be on till Nov at the earliest but will light woodburner in the evenings and pop oil filled plug in heater on in shower room. Last winter was dreadful as boiler gave up the first week in January and I had 6 long weeks with NO central heating or hot water. Downstairs was around 6C and my OA was agony. Could not face that again so have been stocking up on logs and kindling. Am snuggled up in my electric fleecy blanket and the electric blanket is warming up the bed.

Similar experience with British gas and my elderly mum last year Nanafirework - they left her with no heating or hot water for over a week in February, despite their 24hour call out contract. They know she's elderly.
When the engineer did arrive he was appalled and went over and above to make sure that she was OK.
Of course, being herself, she hadn't mentioned it to anyone while it was going on.

Our heating isn't on yet, but then it has been beautifully sunny all day for the last few days.

Holding out...we are having higher temps here in the SW so won't put on until we have to

Most days I have doors and windows open to get fresh air in. this is my kind of weather.

Our CH is never turned on or off. It works off the thermostat all year round. It comes on twice a day and if during the 'on' times the temperature in the house is below 18.5 degrees it starts up.

I rarely notice it coming on and off and have no idea how much it has been on since autumn officially started (21 September). The towel rail has been lukewarm on a couple of mornings, but otherwise I really haven't noticed.

We had a very similar experience with my very elderly inlaws last winter, Nanafirework - the service from British Gas was appalling.

South Coast here, central heating not on yet. But the thin throws are getting plenty of use. A large, very warm crocheted throw is nearly finished.

Heating off at the moment as it's quite mild down here on the South Coast, but I've bought thermal leggings and long sleeved top from Uniqlo in preparation...

But spare a thought for my dear Parents:
British Gas service plan, boiler broken 6th Oct and blowing out carbon dioxide so turned off - still waiting for repair and BG only sent fan heaters Fri after I called and reiterated the complaint I put in Weds-BG has promised fix Tues, no one turned up or phoned mum and dad and same thing Friday and today!
My mum and Dad can’t manage stairs and mum has carers am and on boiling water to wash her, etc…
They seem to have been forgotten and I will be very interested to see if B G have heating up and running tomorrow…
Sham on Bg - mum and Dad are 84 and mum and dad are both in poor health plus mum has Alzheimer’s disease- BG you are a joke
Ps thankfully the weather has been kind and we family are in and out and ensuring they are warm enough, etc. but seriously BG your treatment of them is disgraceful.

S.W.Scotland by the coast and no heating yet. Fires are all set and ready for firelighter, think next week will see the fires blazing.

I put ours on for an hour this morning so that we can eat breakfast in comfort. Yesterday my hands were so cold I couldn’t grip the spoon to eat my Weetabix. (I have Raynauds).

Our thermostat caved several weeks ago. Wake-up until after breakfast, rest of the day it seems to be off. We sleep in a cold home, no issue there.

I put ours on about 7pm last night for first time The wind was coming from the North and it was very chilly

We’re in the lakes but pretty mild to date. No heating on yet. Just tights, socks and slipper boots for my perpetually chilled feet!!

Mines a cold old house but I have no intentions of putting my gas fire on for a good while yet

It's so warm here in Surrey that I've just been out for a walk in a sleeveless top. We don't usually put the heating on til November anyway.

We're as far west as you can get in UK (Fermanagh) which is a beautiful place but cold and wet in the winter. My husband has a chronic illness and is quite frail plus we live in an old house. We've been keeping sitting room stove lit from early morning for about two weeks now as I prefer it to central heating. This morning lit second stove in kitchen / dining room as miserable day. Central heating only on briefly before going to bed.

I don’t bother putting it on in the mornings, but come the evenings it gets chilly, so switch on about 6pm, then turn down a few notches when it’s warmed through.

I have a notion that if one can afford a new bathroom refurbishment, then surely one can afford to switch the heating on when required.

We have yet to experience big bills, because the weather has been so mild. But I’m dreading another email from Energy company.
