Apart from death , what are your worries for your Grandchildren?

Serendipity22 Tue 25-Oct-22 21:34:58

Heck ... modern day life full stop. Gangs, knives, drugs, illness, money worries, relationships .

the list goes on and on and on...

We all have problems and our grandchildren will also experience problems, despite us wishing they don't.
sad

If anyone mentionned Jewish schools, segregated, and without supervision, not following the Curriculum- we would be accused of antisemitism.

Doodle Tue 25-Oct-22 21:21:16

Jimjam so sorry about your brother. I hope he can have treatment which helps.

Fleurpepper Tue 25-Oct-22 21:21:03

You do realise there are many single sex schools in the UK. Most of the private, many not. Many other faiths have single sex schools and segregation. I don't like it, and would not choose it- but ...

As said, NO school should be exempt from the National Curriculum, and NO school should escape proper supervision. Not just Muslim ones.

One of my GCs suffers from a rare and deadly allergy. He will be going to Uni in 2 years, and that is a huge worry, as it will be very hard to avoid all traces of the food he is so allergic to.

My hopes for the future are a cure for cancer. My brother is so very ill at this present time.

Am not sure what you mean by suffering Gagjo do you mean allowing?
We do allow Sharia courts, there are about 85 in the UK, so I have read.
They mainly deal with divorce and disputes within the Muslim communities.

A response to this, from tickingbird, Prentice.

I don’t want my young grandchildren to live in an Islamic country and, in spite of your politically correct denials, nor do you. We already have Sharia law, calls to prayer and segregation of sexes in the UK. Don’t try and tell me I’m offensive and that applies to you too Franbern.

Seems to be under the impression we're overrun by Muslims, out numbered by them and will all be required to follow Sharia law at some point. Which is ludicrous and doesn't bear any relation to the life of the average Brit.

I was wondering how long it would take you to get around to throwing Islamophobe into the mix. So predictable. This from someone who considers this government a totalitarian regime. You’re a parody woman!

You think the UK is suffering Sharia law. And I'm the problem?

Get a grip.

CanadianGran Tue 25-Oct-22 19:22:43

I worry that we are becoming too urban and we have lost our connection to the earth. The population of the earth when I was born was 3 billion, now it is over 7 billion, mostly urban in 1st world countries.

How many people can be sustained, and if something dramatic were to happen, new generations do not have the skills to farm, preserve food, fix or build things.

Gagajo, knowing that modern Islam is an authoritarian and often politicised religion is absolutely okay. However most British Muslims are law abiding people and obey British before Sharia law.

There has been a problem with certain Islamic schools but this has not been reported for at least a year.

No school should be allowed to operate without full State supervision and without following the Curriculum. I do not care if they are Islamic, Jewish, or whatever.

^In a discussion about bigotry, lots. They are a very discriminated against group.^

This isn’t a discussion about bigotry despite your attempts to turn it into one. You brought colour and racism into it and even the fact that your own grandson is brown - your words not mine. You began by saying the majority of muslims are white and then accused me of racism and bigotry. When that didn’t work you brought the Tories into the mix. Someone else asked you why you had done so but you ignored them. You’re desperately trying to deflect from your earlier comments so turn to your usual cry of racism/bigotry. I know what bigotry is and I know when I’m dealing with a bigot.

Oh get over yourself woman. You're way too invested in proving a point. It's an online forum for grannies. Not the HOP.

I think you're an Islamophobe. I think everyone is equal.

Are you a journalist BB2013?

Well if they are will have fun publishing some of these postings as typical grandparents views!

War and climate change are top of my list, but I would also love them to grow up in caring and a less polarised and racist society.

AmberSpyglass Tue 25-Oct-22 13:46:18

Oh, come on. You think that Britain is “at risk” of becoming an Islamic country. I think we know who the bigot is.

I don’t have any grandchildren yet, but would be worried for them, world wars, like currently with Russia and Ukraine. Social media when used in the wrong ways, ie amount of suicides amongst the young, the pressure to look good in all falseness. Need for cosmetic repair so young, when nothing is wrong with their bodies at such a young age.
The use of mobile phones/tablets, PlayStation/game boy etc when they are being used ‘excessively’ and can’t be bothered with reading books, going out to meet people or walks.

Being troubled by the horrors of modern life - on-line trolling and cruelty and terrible behaviour encouraged by pornography.

As an Aussie of Brit descent, most of my family lives fairly safely in Oz and some live in Scandinavia but what most concerns me for my beloved children and grandchilden is climate change. Climate change will not only effect weather patterns but migration patterns, water and food supplies and inevitably power structures. I know enough of history to understand that many generations before us have faced painful and disruptive turbulence but it still scares me that those I love so very dearly may or will have to face these issues. How do other Grans think and feel about these issues?

Fleurpepper Tue 25-Oct-22 10:11:57

Gagajo, totally with you here. So many people have no idea that Muslims come in so many different groups, a bit like Christians, really. How would they feel if Muslim people on the other side of the world confused Plymouth Brethren or Mormons, with CofE.

We have a large part of our family who are Muslims, and they are the nicest, warmest and most tolerant people you can imagine.

Our Church bells are very loud- 4 bells for each quarter, and then the hour- through the night. At midnight therefore, 4 x 4 bells (as loud as Big Ben) and then 12 ... I am not a Christian, but I respect the tradition.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 25-Oct-22 09:53:09

Zealots, bigots and racists come in all colours and religions.

GagaJo Tue 25-Oct-22 08:58:07

My DGS isn't living in an Islamic state though. So no, that isn't a fear I have for him. And given that my Muslim friends welcome him into their homes, I'm more than happy for him to experience their faith. The more cultures he experiences the better. I was exposed to a range of cultures as a child because my mum loved travelling, and luckily, my grandson will have some of those intercultural benefits here in the UK. And now a Hindu PM.

tickingbird Tue 25-Oct-22 08:00:24

As bigoted as someone that makes the automatic link between someone that has an Islamic faith and a totalitarian regimine tickingbird? That is where the Tory link comes from, obviously.

Really?? Tories and totalitarian regimes?? Oh dear. No Islamic countries with totalitarian regimes then?
