I agree. The OP asked a question but some posters just enjoy baiting and being rude. Some sad, unhappy people on here.

GagaJo Tue 25-Oct-22 07:53:32

As bigoted as someone that makes the automatic link between someone that has an Islamic faith and a totalitarian regimine tickingbird? That is where the Tory link comes from, obviously.

tickingbird Tue 25-Oct-22 07:51:34

Gagajo. I have no idea what you find threatening about that. Other than bigotry

Maybe you’re being deliberately imperceptive or maybe you’re just being provocative. I suppose calling posters racist or right wing Tories is what you do when you have nothing of value to offer.

An Islamic country isn’t a barrel of fun for the average Muslim anymore than it is for anyone else. Nothing to do with individual followers of the faith and, let’s face it, in Islamic countries they don’t get much choice.

You are very bigoted in your thinking and your hatred of anyone who doesn’t think or vote like you is obvious from your posts.

Doodle Mon 24-Oct-22 20:17:36

Gagajo serious question not meant to bait. Why did you suddenly bring Tories into the discussion?

My fear is they are relying too much on the technology they have now as they grow up. If that ceases can they adapt. I like all the new bits and bobs we have now but also know how to live without

Could YOU or any of us really know how to live without technology. Not just the more modern ones, but those we have grown up as accepting as the norm. Electricity, cars, trains, flushing toilets, radio, clothes, shoes all made up, food available to purchase, etc. etc.

How far do you think we can go back - stoneage maybe, all live in caves, wear animal skins and only eat what we can kill.grow. Technology has been with mankind for thousands of years, not just the last few decades.

Exactly Blondiescot. My lovely Muslim friend V. a Tory. I know which one I'd pick 100% of the time.

Blondiescot Mon 24-Oct-22 17:50:48

GagaJo - totally agree with you there. How is the Muslim call to prayer any different from church bells? My Muslim friends are all lovely, warm, welcoming and very family-oriented too - and very tolerant of others' faiths and those who have none (like me).
The picture some are painting on here of daily life is very alien to anything I know. It's certainly nothing like the Scotland I live in, for instance.

Why are you talking about Muslims being white and me being offensive? It is you who are offensive with your predilection for jumping to conclusions. You are typical of the type of race baiter that cries racism at every opportunity. I have no problem with anyone’s skin colour and that has nothing to do with Islam.

I don’t want my young grandchildren to live in an Islamic country and, in spite of your politically correct denials, nor do you. We already have Sharia law, calls to prayer and segregation of sexes in the UK. Don’t try and tell me I’m offensive and that applies to you too Franbern.

I’d love dearly to tell you what I really think of your comments but will refrain and clean the bathroom instead grin

We have Sharia law? Really? Where?

What is wrong with a call to prayer? That is what church bells are.

I reiterate. My Muslim friends are very family orientated. Lovely people. Warm and welcoming. I am very happy that they live here, so don't tell me what I do or don't want. They are distinctly preferable to the extreme right wing Tories we've had lately.

I have no idea what you find threatening about that. Other than bigotry.

I am surprised how many people don't keep up with daily news and what's going on in our country. Feral schoolkids
waiting to pounce on another outside school and attempt to stab them with machete.. stopped by a security guard who dashed accross the road and got rid of the gang.. that is not a one off. Then there are the thugs on motor bikes riding up together on pavement and robbing shops.

then in Leicester 2 weeks ago there were mass fights between two different religions.

then people ask......has this been happening to people!

Has this been happening to people?

This happens a lot. I can’t believe you aren’t aware of this. It happened to one of my son’s friend’s daughter a few weeks ago.

I really wasn't aware of this.
I'm very sorry to hear that it is happening.

FarNorth Mon 24-Oct-22 15:43:24

Only recently I printed out some very basic information about climate change and sustainability. I put it into a file for my GC. It will hopefully fit in when school put the subject on their syllabus. It is a big concern that should be taught as soon as possible.

This shouldn't be getting dumped on the young ones.
Adults, now, should be tackling it.
Admittedly, some are, but not to the extent that's really needed.

tickingbird Mon 24-Oct-22 14:16:36

My fear for my DGS is two fold. He is brown, so I'm afraid of racists. A brown boy in this country is not safe. Not on the streets or from the police.

Try being a Jewish boy. Now that’s really unsafe.

"the possibility that the UK will become an Islamic country - that worries me a lot."

The UK regime has recently been more authoritarian less liberal. However it's extremely unlikely it will become an Islamic republic. There are many more pressing problems than Islam.

GagaJo Mon 24-Oct-22 11:16:46

I'm also afraid of global warming. So much so we have considered moving even further North in the UK. I certainly hope he doesn't have children of his own, because just in DGS's lifetime, life is going to be pretty unbearable as a result of GW.

Don’t be so bloody rude!! I don’t know about anyone else but I don’t read the Daily Mail and you have no idea how many Muslims, or people in general, are in this country. What a stupid comment!

I have Muslim friends. They're peace loving, family orientated people. The Muslims you're talking about are extremists. Which are found in every religion and are a tiny minority.

You are offensive. Are you aware that the majority of Muslims are white people that look just like you and me?

Redhead56 Mon 24-Oct-22 11:08:42

Violence drugs bullying all these things do exist everywhere. There are feral gangs causing problems a mile from where we live in a very prosperous area. It does occur because of the lack parental control. What does not help is the lack of police presence. They are only visible here when there is an incident. The rest of the time they are invisible so there is no deterrent to prevent bad behaviour.

My GC as young as they are sit down to work on what they are given from school. They have a routine a structure which is important like their parents they will not roam the streets when they are older.
I want the best future my GC can possibly have as happy healthy individuals. I would like them to have lots of opportunities to help them achieve their goals in life.

The environment, the demise of public services such as NHS, Policing,
Properly funded education for all,
- and living a joyless life where everything is quantified by how much one earns and having to work longer and longer hours for the same pay,- and kindness and tolerance are regarded as some quaint old notion

Prentice Mon 24-Oct-22 09:38:50

A question was posted by the OP, nobody has to answer if they do not wish to.
I think it an interesting question.
Whatever people give as their answer should not be ridiculed,
It is one of their fears as requested .
Mine is that they may be attacked in the street, and also the worry about war, either conventional or nuclear.

Franbern Mon 24-Oct-22 09:03:55

Well, at least this thread gave me a good laugh this morning. What a ridiculous statement about fear of UK becoming an Islamic country!!!! Oh well, if that is someone greatest fear they can rest assured that it is not going to happen.

Obviously, for the majority of us our fears are more inbedded in what is actually happening, so climate change - and how it will effect future generations is probably our greatest worry.

When I replied at the start of this thread that it was the present government it was not meant as a throwaway remark. The damage they are doing with Fracking, giving to the rich and taking from the rest of us, making UK a laughing stock in the eyes of the rest of the world, encouraging people to blame everyone else(except the government) for the problems happening. Building up the fear of anyone who looks different, speaks differently, etc.etc.

My eldest g.daughter is well on her way to training as a Social Worker - brave decision - not taken lightly, another wants to train as an Environmental Scientist. Like my own children, it appears as if my g.children are looking to take careers in the Caring Professions - I am so proud that they are - and so concerned that they are!!!!!

BlueBelle Mon 24-Oct-22 08:48:00

How can you have dreams for your grandchildren it’s their life their dreams they may well be totally opposite to your dreams

My only hopes are that they stay fit and happy in whatever way they choose and which ever choices they make

Wyllow3 Mon 24-Oct-22 08:28:50

On the big scale, it has to be climate change.

On the personal scale, DGD1 is severely disabled with epilepsy, cerebral palsy, learning difficulties, and almost no sight.

I dont want her to die, it would be a fit, she is in danger in that way. So there's no "part from" like in the OP. she's a living an much loved child.
