Dog friendly? What would you do?

I arranged to go out for a countryside walk with a group of friends, some I know well, some I hardly know at all. We were supposed to walk for about an hour and finish up at an eating place for lunch.
Quite a nice cafe style place for lunch with three separate eating areas with same menu; outside area, inside conservatory and inside restaurant.
No dogs allowed in restaurant area but staff quite happy for dogs to stay with you in other areas.
Friends decided to eat in restaurant area even though they knew I couldn't bring my dog in with me.
What would you have done?
1. Tied dog up outside, where you couldn't see him and risk him, or you, getting anxious, and sit and eat with friends.
2. Eat on your own in another area.
3. Go home.
Just wonder what others think.

Did everyone know the dog would be going to the meal?

It sound like the others, once they got to the pub just headed off into the restaurant without thinking about your dog. I'm assuming there wasn't any proper discussion about where to sit?
Maybe they hadn't even realised the dog wasn't welcome in the restaurant area?
What often happens in a group is that one person heads off and others follow.

It may well be that there was no intention to exclude you.

They walked off into the restaurant: they forgot about the person with a dog. Simple. But not very nice.

This is what it sounds like to me.

Did you ask them if they would mind moving into the other area?

Well if they're used to you bringing the dog and usually sit with you in the dog friendly areas then it was strange they didn't this time.

Could you ask one of them why?

Good to see you back GrannyRose. I was just interested to know whether the group had a chat with you around where to have lunch, or did they all just walk off to the restaurant?

They walked off into the restaurant.

I'd like to know if you normally stop off somewhere for lunch or if this was a one off.

It is a regular walking group that usually stops off somewhere for lunch.

I'd like to know if you have asked your walking friends the questions you have asked on this thread. Surely they are the only people who can explain what happened and why you were left alone.
Incidentally I don't think anyone has suggested you were not wanted, just that the dog might not be welcome.

I haven't spoken to my walking friends since the incident.

You still haven’t said if he was the only dog on this walk GrannyRose, at least I don’t think so.

I am interested to know if he was or not.

There was one other dog. It was put in the car over lunch.

This thread should be retitled;
‘My Dog and I went Home: Ask Me Anything’ wink

I too am very surprised by the interest in this thread, and heartened by the many supportive comments I have received. All I really wanted to know was if there was anyone on here who would have acted as I did in the circumstances. Validation of my feelings I suppose.
I hadn't expected so many nasty comments.
Especially those that imply that instead of mere thoughtlessness my so called "friends" were engaged in a passive aggressive conspiracy against me and really didn't want me or my dog along at all. I do not think what I said in my original post gave any grounds for thinking this. Some of the people I was with have known me a very long time and I assure you that, if they hadn't wanted me along, I would not have been included in the invitation in the first place.
As for those who think I haven't told the whole story, all I can say is, I have.

Anyhow as the OP hasn't come back we don't really know all the facts

I do keep saying this!
You are SO right.
Most perplexing as there are a handful of pertinent questions needing answers...

^there are no “nasty dogs^”
I beg to differ

there are lots of nasty dog owners
I'll agree with that.

Cossy Tue 25-Oct-22 18:35:53

Btw there’s some very odd and quite unpleasant comments on here, there are no “nasty dogs” but there are lots of nasty dog owners. Also, as a lifelong dog owner I have NEVER EVER taken my dogs anywhere with friends who don’t like dogs and I also keep my dogs locked in my kitchen in friends who don’t like or who are scared of dogs come to visit !!

Cossy Tue 25-Oct-22 18:29:51

I would have gone home and I think that’s quite rude of your friends to be honest

Bellanonna Tue 25-Oct-22 16:51:02

Ah, they’re both so cute Josesnne !

Bellanonna Tue 25-Oct-22 16:50:09

Wow this has reached 16 pp on my iPad. I’m surprised the OP
had not returned, given the large support she has received.

Joseanne Tue 25-Oct-22 16:40:04

I bet no one leaves these two to eat alone anywhere!
