Let’s have a virtual GN dinner party, you are allowed one celebrity, one historical character, one fictional character and finally a GN member you have never met.

I will start, Graham Norton will be my celebrity because he will keep the conversation going.
My historical character will be Jane Austen as she was a woman ahead of her time and I sense someone with great powers of observation.
My fictional character is Charles Ryder from Brideshead Revisited. I have so many questions!
My final GN guest will be Maw because she won’t take any

Celebrity: Billy Connolly - we'd never stop laughing.
Historical: Martin Luther King Jnr - just to be in his presence would be an honour.
Fictional: Spock - to try and make him laugh.
GN: Rufus: He was suddenly not there, just as I'd got to know him and love his wicked sense of humour.

Celeb - Brenda Blethyn (or Mark Harmon if she can’t come.)
Historical -Richard 111-to find out what REALLY happened to the princes who 1 don't think he killed.
Fictional - Nero Wolfe but he wouuld have to bring his chef because my cooking wouldn't be up to his standards.
GN - Not sure who to chance

Another Graham Norton fan here so he's my celebrity

Robert Bontine Cunningham-Graham "Don Roberto" co founder of the labour party ,who had an amazing adventurous life .I used to pass a statue to him on my way to school .

Atticus Finch ,"To Kill A Mockingbird" the world would be a better place if there were a lot more like him .

Luckygirl , I left GN for a while and came back just to follow her tough time with her OH's health and care .She's a strong woman who has my respect.I'm happy her move seems to have worked out well .

Celebrity - Brenda Blethyn - ordinary background, a great actor who doesn't take herself too seriously - has many humorous anecdotes
Historical Figure - Desmond Tutu - so much humanity, never pompous - and a great sense of humour
Fictional Character - Maggie Moran from Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler - chats to anyone and everyone, optimistic, well intentioned, sometimes infuriating.
Gransnet member - Volver and Whitewave 2 - like their views and the way they express them

Lottie53 Thu 27-Oct-22 17:35:18

I think my celebrity would be Paul Macartney because I am a huge fan of the Beatles and would love to talk about their music. My historical figure would be Rudyard Kipling brcause I love his poetry and his knowledge of India would be fascinating. I would love a blind date with any of the Gransnetters who doesn’t have a date cos I don’t know any of them.

Tinydancer Thu 27-Oct-22 17:18:28

Celebrity: J K Rowling for writing and her bravery.
Arthur Wellesley: amazing soldier, who also saw that winning a battle can be as heartbreaking as losing-apt for Ukraine today.
Fictional: Alinor from the Roselynde Chronicles. So much to know about the 12th Century.
Gransnet: many of the posters I hear from, but probably Fanny Carnforth-she likes owls

Vintagenonna Thu 27-Oct-22 15:42:53

Celebrity : Dolly Parton - services to literacy & her kindness

Historical : Eleanor Roosevelt - treated badly by her philandering husband but carried out her duty to him as President; tirelessly campaigned for the establishment of a Human Rights Charter; invited a black singer, Marian Andersen, to see in the White House when the pestilential Daughters of the American Republic objected to her singing elsewhere. Oh, and travelled far and wide meeting troops during WW2 because her husband was unable to. Carried her own cases through airports.

Fictional character - Wendy Appleyard from 'The Roth Trilogy'.

Any Gransnet member who feels she won't be bored and is willing to go home with a pot of homemade preserves.

Bluecat Thu 27-Oct-22 14:19:29

And I want to come to the party that has Ignatius from A Confederacy of Dunces!

Bluecat Thu 27-Oct-22 14:17:27

Celebrity - Michael Palin. He's funny and I would love to talk to him about his travels. I also think that he doesn't seem intimidating, like a lot of celebrities.

Historical - Sojourner Truth. A brave woman who had a remarkable life.

Fictional - Frodo Baggins. Has quite a story to tell and would appreciate the food.
