Let’s have a virtual GN dinner party, you are allowed one celebrity, one historical character, one fictional character and finally a GN member you have never met.

I will start, Graham Norton will be my celebrity because he will keep the conversation going.
My historical character will be Jane Austen as she was a woman ahead of her time and I sense someone with great powers of observation.
My fictional character is Charles Ryder from Brideshead Revisited. I have so many questions!
My final GN guest will be Maw because she won’t take any

S**t!

GrannyGravy13 Mon 24-Oct-22 18:14:40

Gyles Brandreth, he just makes me smile

Elizabeth I , I would love to know what made her tick

Rupert Campbell-Black (Jilly Cooper main character running through all her books) I have had a crush on him since I read Riders many moons ago.

Urmstongran who always seems happy and living her best life.

Romesh Ranganathen, I like his humour,

Vincent Vangogh, to tell him he became a success,

Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, I do like a dark brooding character.

Maw, for me too, common sense, humour and comes across as genuine.

I'm somewhat unsophisticated in my dinner party companions and because I like children and animals, I would choose:
1. David Attenborough- fascinating
2. Anne Frank because I admire her tenacity, her optimism and her writing
3. Peter Pan for the secret of never growing up
4. Any GNettter who has a sense of humour and likes to discuss good wine

kittylester Mon 24-Oct-22 18:44:40

Stephen Mangan - need you ask

Charles II - I have always had a soft spot for him

Ross Poldark - again, need you ask

And, soop. It might have been maw, but I've met her already.

Gyles Brandreth - I could listen to his wit and wisdom all day .
William Shakespeare - just to compliment him on his genius
Rapunzel - would love to have some of her hair
Smiles - who offers unbiased advice, despite her own difficulties.

Granc Mon 24-Oct-22 18:56:56

Rowen Atkinson because he is so clever and somehow endearing
Charles 11 too because he was intriguing and I would love to know if he stayed in my lane
Alice in wonderland because she had the introduction to magic
And Maw who seems to me to be an asset to this site

JKRowling - celebrity is probably the wrong word for JKR, but she is a woman I really admire.
Thomas Cromwell- did he regret the part he played in the death of Anne Boleyn and what did he really think of Henty VIII?
Lord John Grey - a character from the Outlander series of books. Because he’s intelligent, well educated, brave, funny, kind.
Dickens - I always enjoy her posts, they are measured and thoughtful.

kittylester Tue 25-Oct-22 07:19:34

Ooooh, thank you for the invitation BigBertha. I'll be there- especially if Rufus Sewell is invited too.

Nannylovesshopping Tue 25-Oct-22 08:42:31

Emily Pankhurst
Vera
Bluebell, who is utterly lovely

annsixty Tue 25-Oct-22 09:09:11

I shall have to think long and hard about the first few but have no doubt that MissAdventure will be my GN choice.
She is so funny and quick thinking but also very brave and caring.

ShazzaKanazza Tue 25-Oct-22 09:22:30

Mine would be.
Steve Pemberton to chat about all the different characters he’s played. So talented and funny.
Emmeline Pankhurst to explain why I can’t vote in the next general election.
Daryl Dixon from the Walking Dead as I know he’d protect me with his life and he’s rather dishy.
Bellanonna because we have had lovely pm chats and I’d love to meet her in real life.

henetha Tue 25-Oct-22 10:00:11

Chris Packham. I'd enjoy talking to him about our planet issues.
Elizabeth 2nd. Only recent history I know, but I'd love to know how she felt about her long reign and what does she think about the future of the monarchy.
Walter White from Breaking Bad, my favourite series. Did he enjoy all those hair raising adventures with Jessie Pinkman.
Fanny Cornforth always sounds interesting to me.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Tue 25-Oct-22 12:27:41

Greg Davies - funny
Vera Atkins - brave
Jane Eyre - plucky
Fanny Cornforth - I think she'd be entertaining
