This is what Biden called Sunak today.
Yesterday he couldn’t determine the rehearsed way out of a White House garden and had to be helped out by an aide.

This man.

The most powerful man in the world? What a joke - he is a senile buffoon. At 79y it’s embarrassing to witness. His facial plastic surgery helps him to look younger but it’s all a facade.

I think Dr Jill Biden (his wife) ought to guide him away from politics now.
What do you think? Is it time he enjoyed some rest and retirement?

It is certainly a concern Urmstongran
I hope the US can find younger candidates to put up in their next election, they do seem to be quite old for such powerful and demanding jobs.

Obviously I can see what everyone else can, but rather than be annoyed with him, I am pretty disgusted with those in power who know the problems and his mental state who continue to wheel him out to the public / press. The VP should now take over and let JB retire from public office.

As I recall volver, there was quite a lot of speculation about Reagan’s age related abilities, as you mention. So should there be age limits on being a politician? I certainly think it would be worth having a think about that. And about an age restriction on our HofS.

I don't think that's a fair comparison.
The president of the United States is politically in charge of having to make huge decisions and be very active in every day politics. Our Queen was able to continue as hers was a job for life, and her children etc could and did help her with her duties. And her job was very different from Biden's. Our head of state is not active in politics.
No doubt a clever and sarcastic response will now come my way.

Oh, I was so hoping somebody would say that!

Doesn't matter if you are old and decrepit and can't remember where you are. We'll have you as Head of State because it's not really an important job.

1-0 to me. (sarcasm) smile

merlotgran Wed 26-Oct-22 11:52:15

The Queen didn’t make political speeches or world affecting decisions.
She might have been physically frail but her mind was as sharp as a tack so no comparison really.

Anybody watch the Dementia Choir recently?

Chap on there, 51 years old, with dementia. Couldn't have run the country, for sure.

Not because he was too old, but because he had an illness.

So, OK then.

Shall we all agree then that old people can't be trusted because they get confused and forget things?

Reagan was 78 when he stopped being president. Does being one year older make you suddenly "too old"? (I know he was in decline too)

Shall we put an age limit on being a politician? 70? 60? 50, just to be on the safe side?

Be careful what you ask for.

maddyone Wed 26-Oct-22 11:47:19

Well I agree with some of your post volver. I do not have double standards, I regularly said the Queen was too old for the job, but many posters didn’t agree with me.
As for Biden, I’m not a doctor either, and so I will also refrain from attempting to make any diagnosis, but I have observed his confusion on news reports and because of this I believe he is too old for the job.

maddyone Wed 26-Oct-22 11:43:55

I’m afraid I don’t agree that it’s disrespectful to simply say what most of us know; that is that Joe Biden is simply too old for the job. It’s frightening that the country which claims to be the leader of the free world can’t find anyone a bit younger to do this very responsible role. Someone who doesn’t become easily confused or forget the names of other important people. We have to remember that he’s not just the leader of the USA but apparently the leader of the free world which includes us. His decisions could very well affect every one of us.

volver Wed 26-Oct-22 11:41:13

I have a different view of Biden.

I think the Democratic Party knew what they were doing choosing him, because he had the best chance of beating Trump.

So many people here saying he's too old, but when anybody questioned having 96 year old head of state in the UK earlier in the year, we were accused of ageism. Got to get the story straight folks, can't have double standards.

He does show signs of cognitive decline, but I'm no doctor so I won't be diagnosing anything or calling him names for it.

henetha Wed 26-Oct-22 11:36:52

Thanks Juliet.

Callistemon21 Wed 26-Oct-22 11:32:43

It’s a curiosity that the Democrats couldn’t find a younger presidential candidate.

But - if it’s a choice between an elderly democrat or a psychologically damaged and dangerous man like Trump, it’s no contest. Biden every time

Oh yes.

But the paucity of candidates is astonishing.

MayBee70 Wed 26-Oct-22 11:25:27

It was mentioned on The Rest is Politics that the US tends to elect older people. Which was actually the case here till recently. Most of our PM’s up till then had had decades of parliamentary experience before becoming PM: in Churchill’s case it was 40 years. There’s a lot to learn before you get the top job with all the responsibility you then have. I’d imagine it’s even more important in America given that the President usually has ( excuse my ignorance about this) the senate (?) against them, especially if they’re a democrat president.

Biden has said he won't run again, so I hope he sticks to that. So let's hope the Democrats can find a decent candidate soon in plenty of time for the next Presidential election, which I think is 2024.
I agree that Biden is too old for the job, and it shows. But he is a decent man, - not perfect, - but the polar opposite of the likes of Trump. thank goodness.

Well said henetha

Calendargirl Wed 26-Oct-22 10:47:13

But we are not in charge of one, if not the, most powerful countries in the world ParlorGames.

That is the difference.

Aldom

I agree Joe Biden is past it. But I don't like the name calling. It's unkind when the man is clearly in failing health.

Not only unkind but also disrespectful! Think on GNetters, that could be you one day!

Prentice Wed 26-Oct-22 10:15:28

Somebody younger next time is a must for the US.
I am sure they know this too by now.

JenniferEccles Wed 26-Oct-22 09:39:01

Whoops so I did!
Not sure why I made that mistake as I do know it’s Rishi.
We saw Dishy Rishi mentioned enough in the press didn’t we? !

Anyway thankfully I am not in a powerful position like Biden.

Yet Bidon couldn't even get the vowels right!

And to paraphrase Casdon, neither can you.

Oldnproud Wed 26-Oct-22 09:17:29

Not being able to read/say Sunak's name was just the latest indication of how incapable Bidon now is.

There is nothing complicated about the name - it's pretty much pronounced as it's written! As they say on Catch Phrase, "Just say what you see!"
Yet Bidon couldn't even get the vowels right!

I fear for the US. It is a very fractured country, where things could turn nasty very quickly.
They desperately need a leader who is strong, capable and compus mentis to hold things together. Instead, their wealth-driven political system resulted in first a dangerous, power-crazy, deluded egotistical madman as President, then a doddery old man who even when elected was clearly no longer either physically or mentally up to the job.
It would be funny if it wasn't so serious!

Well said Aldom what choice did the US have and if they force him out of office would there be another presidential election and Trump is ready to jump.
What worries me is that the Chinese and Russians are watching and see what were the Western super powers slowly imploding.

Trump aside, I wonder what the Democrat voters think of wooden Biden? He makes so many gaffes. The two I mentioned yesterday were just this week’s offerings.

Joseanne Wed 26-Oct-22 08:04:27

TerriBull

It was hard to get one's head around a nation with something in the order of three hundred and fifty million people came up with those two as their presidential candidates shock

I've always thought the same.
