I have a pyracantha growing up the brick panel at the side of my front door.
For the last two years I have covered it with red berry lights, I love it but my live in GD says it looks like a “knocking shop”
I normally have only white lights but this gives a lovely contrast.
This year we all need some brightness in our lives.

Only if you lived in Amsterdam! What a lovely idea. I have one outside our front window I'm going to look for some red solar ones to put on it.

Yes, we’ll be putting up lights. Some are battery, some solar (tho they’re not as effective without some sunshine in the day), some are electric but LED, so cost effective. They bring a little cheer and we certainly need some of that at the moment. We’re cost cutting in other ways, so this will be our little indulgence.

I think it’s possible that the lights you saw HowVeryDareYou might have been to celebrate Diwali which was last week and until this Monday just gone, as Grannybags also suggests.

A house two roads from us has had Xmas lights up for just over two weeks!
Nothing at all to do with Diwali, as the rather large illuminated plaque in the centre of the window reads 'Merry Christmas'!

I love seeing everyone’s Christmas lights, and TBH, LED ones use very little electricity.
January always seems even more dreary to me after Twelfth Night, when they’ve all come down.

During the first lockdown, 24 houses in dd’s immediate area had an Advent Window scheme, where people decorated a front window for a particular day, for children to walk round go and look at every night. I thought it was a lovely idea, and AFAIK they’re keeping it going.

DD1 did that in her area. The children loved it.

We have quite a few lights, along our eaves and the front shrubs, all colourful lights.

We have them on a timer to turn on at 5pm and off at 11pm. I believe we have converted all the strings to led except for one, so it doesn't make much difference to our electric bill. They are a joy to see in the dark of winter. DH usually puts them up in Nov on a nice day, but they don't get turned on until Dec 1.

Some round here keep them up year in year out , although may I add don't put them on. Saves time I expect putting them up & taking them down. Everyone to their own thing I say ... saying that expect others see them as well, who knows someone on here may

Fanny, I’m really not a dog lover but that photo is just gorgeous. The little trees in the window are so pretty too - I’m going to look out for something similar.

I'm too lazy to decorate the outside of my house, but I love to walk home in the dark of the gloomiest time of year and see lights shining out. Thank you to everyone who makes the effort .

At the front of my bungalow near the front door I have a conifer tree which is lite up with small fairy lights they are battery run and on a 5 hour timer so they switch on at 4pm and turn off at 9pm the batteries last about a week so very cheap to run the lights are still in the tree so only need the batteries replacing again this year.

Enid the trees are from Amazon, as are the little red birds, which I believe are cardinals, the US version of the robin.
I’ll see if I can find a link for you.

Most of ours are battery operated so it will be lights as usual.

We just need some sunlight, cloudy skies don't seem to work as well.

When DIL's cats were tiny, one climbed into their large Christmas tree and stayed there, fell asleep, looking just like a little tree ornament 🐱

Christmas at Christmas 🎄 ... November ... at first didn't realise why no lights on the Christmas tree 🎄 because so light ! As their summer ... went on a cruise & stayed a few days in Sydney saying that I love the snow ❄️ at Christmas !

A bbq on Christmas Day in 38C heat just isn't the same!

I agree 100% ... love a nice turkey dinner , round the table with family, lovely warm fire, Christmas twinkling light on Christmas tree 🎄 ... even better with snow ❄️

My DD has given in with a conventional Christmas tree now, Beautful but the wooden one she has looks very lovely.
