I cant be trusted around crisps and chocolates! I bought a tin of Quality Street last week, I am trying hard to be good, so why would he (hubby) say “Coo, you've done well, you’ve not opened the QS”. Why, oh why, oh why lol (they are calling me from the high shelf in the cupboard, but I am going to resist). I’ll report back.

I've got 4 runs off Heroes, 2 tubs of Celebrations and 2 tubs of the Swizzels retro sweets sitting by the washing machine in the kuchen. I bought them for xmas about 4 weeks ago. 5 of the tuba are (loosely) allocated as gifts and I like to kero a spare (or two) just in case a neighbour buys me a box of biccies or something.

I've been walking past and looking at them for weeks now agma I've been REALLY good 😇 not to have raided them, but then I do have 2 boxes of Lindt balls upstairs and they're not so safe 🤣

I don’t often binge on chocolate, but if I spot the chocolate coated marzipan bars in Lidl, I can’t resist.

Does anyone else suffer crippling anxiety over illness?

Speldnan Sat 05-Nov-22 09:57:55

Best not to have them in the house. But don’t blame yourself if you eat them. The combination of sugar and fat has been scientifically proven to be addictive. It literally affects the brain which tells you to eat more and more of it. Only way is to avoid that first bite.

Someone else came up with the Platinum Jubilee sewing tin, it was a Roses special edition. Came with free chocolates. Ace Unfortunately I had heart surgery with total appetite loss to follow, but looked forward to the prospect of the chocs. Other half is not usually a choccy fan but I came home to just the empty tin.
So I have a pretty sewing tin....

I am 70 and have been on a diet since day 1 of my life and DH had been a part of it to his despair ! last week I made a small fruit cake and for some reason I proceeded over the week to eat 3/4 of it! DH found out and said “I am shocked you have done that “ if the cake had still been there I think it might have ended up on his head 😂

My biggest sacrifice as far as loving any food is concerned is cheese. But I'm on meds that make me put on weight and had recent shock on the scales...so out it goes. I'm not overweight for height/age..but can't afford a new wardrobe!

As for sweet things, I genuinely have lost the taste for them.

I'm discovering things like Harissa paste that brightens up vegetables and fish and so on.

I live alone so its easy to control what I eat. Planning a low cal Christmas with all my fave savouries. I'm not virtue signalling - its genuine. But some nice Sauv Blanc is definitely on the list.

(sympathies above with the alcohol under the sink - tough all round).

🤣🤣 love it

Nanny12

Not alcoholic, chocoholic 😂😂😂😂

I wouldn't worry Nanny 12 it would have done you good to confess if you were. I have a relation who keeps her bottle stash under the sink with the Demestos and will not admit it so the whole family have been told by the social services to keep away and give no help until she does.

Are all these things made to be addictive? Sugars fats and salt - humans love them - no wonder there’s an obesity crisis. Apparently the sugar receptors on the tongue also have receptors for salt which enhance the sweetness. I love Willy’s Caramel Pearls - there’s no hope.

Theexwife Fri 04-Nov-22 17:37:27

My reasoning is that I am going to eat them anyway so I may as well eat them now.

wetflannel Fri 04-Nov-22 17:15:13

As a vegan finding good chocolate is quite difficult, but fortunately good old M&S do a box of delicious vegan chocs. So I won't feel deprived at Christmas.

paddyann54 Fri 04-Nov-22 17:04:50

Not much of a chocolate lover ,I used to buy delicious coffee creams from a wee sweetie shop in our town .Sadly they closed decades ago and I couldn't find the same make anywhere else .
Not a lover of ice cream either,my OH always has a stash of sweeties n his office that he's not supposed eat and he can go through 3ltrs of ice cream a week .
Never puts on weight ,its not fair

IrishDancing Fri 04-Nov-22 16:33:15

I don’t like Roses or QS anymore, I prefer the M&S equivalent. I bought a box last year and yes, I ate them all before Christmas. This year’s list says “M&S chocolates x 2” …

mulberry7 Fri 04-Nov-22 16:12:58

HiMay, I am not a chocolate lover either. I will eat a little sometimes, but have never had a craving for it. My mother loved it, but my Dad wouldn't bother with it, ever. So if there's a genetic link, he and I shared that DNA.

melp1 Fri 04-Nov-22 16:10:17

Brought a tub of Heros for Hallowen the few that were left we managed to polish off in the following few days. Yum yum!

Jodieb Fri 04-Nov-22 15:56:44

I have to have a safe amount of Cadbury's Chocolate Buttons. I open them and keep them in a container and help myself to a couple when I'm in the kitchen. So Chocolatey I can resist over indulging.

hulahoop Fri 04-Nov-22 14:55:23

I've got some upstairs ready for Christmas they stay unopened I can resist its crisps I can't leave alone.

Foxyferret Fri 04-Nov-22 14:44:37

I’ve stopped buying them as they are getting smaller/less weight every year. I remember when we used to get a huge proper tin and they were great. They don’t seem to taste the same either so I’ll pass thanks.

millymouge Fri 04-Nov-22 14:39:09

No Bounty in Celebrations, that is terrible. It’s the only one I like. I can resist chocolate never been keen on it, but crisps, cheese, olives, savouries and anything of that ilk I can’t resist. I dare not buy until just before Christmas otherwise they suddenly disappear.

icanhandthemback Fri 04-Nov-22 14:38:35

I am doing Keto because I have stuffed my face with chocolate for too long. I am a true addict. I start off with a small amount and gradually it creeps up until it is all I eat. Even as I feel sick and generally unwell with eating it, I crave more. As a diabetic that would be fatal. For a long while I have managed to have fruit to eat to deal with the fruit cravings but recently it hasn't tasted sweet at all. If I do Keto for a couple of weeks, when I return to Slimming World, fruit will feel like a treat again and I hope to hold the chocolate addiction at bay.

vampirequeen Fri 04-Nov-22 14:38:26

I can't be trusted with anything nice in the house.

DH has to have jelly babies available because he's diabetic. Thank goodness, they're one of the few sweets I don't like.

I will buy Ferraro Roche and a few other treats in the week before Christmas. I can pretend they're not there for a few days especially as I know that if I eat them, I won't be able to replace them.

Wyllow3 Fri 04-Nov-22 14:31:59

There is only one safe way.

Never buy them.

Sparklefairydust Fri 04-Nov-22 14:29:49

Apparently they are not taking the Bounty bar out of the tins but making some tins without Bounty, there will still be some with them in. Hopefully they will be well labelled.

Babs758 Fri 04-Nov-22 14:20:26

Waitrose have started doing a cocao fruit chocolate. Pure cacao and no milk or cream. It is addictive! Very rich so a couple of squares satisfies a chocolate craving.
