I just had to post a picture of the reduced chocolate finger packet. No attempt to even hide it. It used to be completely full!
And no, no one has been helping themselves to a cheeky biscuit, it was like that before opening!

"Nuts whole hazelnuts" was for Cadbury whole nut.

The fruit and nut jingle was "Everyone's a fruit and nut case"

Of course, I recall it now!

I guess with size of products reducing we will all find we are losing weight!

Gingster Thu 10-Nov-22 07:38:07

It’s not only the products that are shrinking. A couple of aisles in Asda are, too. Much narrower - hardly room for two trolleys to pass! 😳

Lily flower. Try Lidl"s look alike Kitkat bars.

Has anyone else noticed that OXO have cut a groove in the sides of the cube.I assume they would say it will make it look more like an X but it will have removed quite a bit of volume- to their benefit

The size of Kitkats infuriates me - and I haven’t got over their replacing the lovely silver paper and paper sleeve with plastic. I don’t buy them at all any more and the manufacturers have only themselves to blame.

Fairy washing powder. Earlier this year I got a ‘mega pack’ for £10 (advertised as 60 washes). Now a ‘mega pack’ still at £10 is advertised as 50 washes. Unless you see the 2 boxes side by side it’s not obvious that you’re getting less.

I find the difference in each supermarket sometimes really ridiculous. Spreading cheese ( same brand ) £1 in Asda £ 1.75 in Sainsbury.

Last week DH bought a pack of Werther's Originals toffees. They used to be wrapped in twisted cellophane wrappers. Now they're in ugly crimp sealed foil pouches. And they are REALLY TINY!! probably about a third the size of the original Originals. What a disappointment. I've been robbed of the pleasure of untwisting the wrapper and finding a lovely chunky toffee, Grrrrrrr angry

By coincidence OP my DD opened a pkt of chocolate fingers this morning and said exactly the same as you smile

Complete dog food from Aldi. I used to find heavy to lift into the trolley with two hands, now only requires one.

Foxyferret Tue 08-Nov-22 14:35:11

I think you have to buy Cadburys whole nut to get the whole nut. On a different note, Iceland dog biscuits, were £3.00 a bag, then £3.50 now £3.75. All in a matter of a few weeks and same size bag

Just to help with my shopping bill I had an interesting experience in Sainsbury’s.
Can you spot what I complained about?
Meant I got them free.

Calendargirl Tue 08-Nov-22 14:32:19

Tesco own brand cavity protection fluoride toothpaste still 100 ml.

Think it’s about 60p-70p per tube.

DH bought a bar of cadbury fruit and nut chocolate the other day and the nuts were chopped where they used to be whole nuts. Obviously the chocolate bar is so thin now it wouldn't cover the nut.

The jingle used to be ‘Nuts, whole hazelnuts, ooh, Cadbury make ‘em and cover them in chocolate’.

Obviously could be done under trades description nowadays!

I went to buy green lentils in Holland & Barrett today - £3.49 per 500 gr. One hell of a jump.

M & S £1.36 BUT out of stock.

On the subject of chocolate fingers . . . there is a small shop on the Isle of Wight that still sells Bournville (dark) chocolate fingers.

I recently bought a packet of luxury cookies as a treat for DH and I when we were away, self-catering. There always used to be 8 cookies in the pack but this time there were 7! Being a democratic couple, we broke the last cookie in half and had a half each with our morning coffee but to reduce the number of biscuits from 8 to 7 seems a poor way to reduce a packet's contents.

grandtanteJE65 Tue 08-Nov-22 13:37:14

There are now 8 or 10 sachets of cat food in a box instead of 12 and some makes have reduced the weight of the individual portions by 20 g. Butter is being sold in 200 g packets instead of 250 g and lots of other foodstuffs are being sold in smaller quantities.

Here we are told this is being done to keep the price range of the different products more-or-less the same as what the customer "is used to paying for the particular product".

Wyllow3 Tue 08-Nov-22 13:29:57

Yes its true about what is available at the check out stage as a Sainsbugs employee explained it all as part of telling me why things had been rearranged in the whole shop:

its aimed at obesity especially child obesity, the "mum, mum canniver choc bar". (and its caused me to pick up the odd choc bar at times...)

(If they are low fat crisps they probably don't come into the obesity ruling? what strikes me about this is how incredibly expensive these snacks are for half a potato!)

"OH was observing that toothpaste tubes have shrunk recently too."

Lixy, your OH is right. Most toothpaste tubes now hold 75 ml instead of 100 ml. Except for Home Bargains, where they sell 100 ml tubes of toothpaste for half the price of the 75 ml ones in Tesco. Guess where I now shop for all toiletries?

Oh and don't get me started on toilet rolls! Asda and Tesco own are now almost double the price they used to be. Interestingly, they put a very cheap brand in their own toilets. I know, I make sure I use them each time I do visit the stores, just to get my money's worth 🤣

4allweknow Tue 08-Nov-22 13:14:38

The difference in size/weight would probably be more noticeable if packaging is shrunk. It's kept the same but contents reduced.

Gillypaula Tue 08-Nov-22 13:11:00

Even cat food pouches have gone from 100g to 80 or 85g. And cost more.

Stilllearning Tue 08-Nov-22 12:45:26

Frozen Blueberries, quietly, same price, 50grams less. Tesco

Just put out a new loo roll from my usual pack, and to my horror they have lopped off three quarters of an inch from the side of the roll - hadly enough to do the job now, so have to use extra sheets, which I suppose is the plan... angry
