Our Hoover washing machine door has cracked again near the hinges after being replaced just six months ago. Our repairman said he had had a number of repairs to do for the same reason. Problem is it has just the right choice of washes I am looking for- 3 short wash choices starting at 14 mins. Even my main wash can be reduced to 1.hr 17mins . It is a 10kg model. With five of us and 2 secondary school children in the household I do between 1-3 washes a day.(Think football kits etc.).
Should I get it repaired again (over £100 ) or buy new?
If the latter can Gner recommend a large machine with similar flexibility.
(Hoover, Candy and Haier are same company so would wish to avoid if buying new).
Thanks.

Any suggestions as to a good replacement? Have been looking at Samsung. Does anyone have one?

We got a meile think it's called more than 15 yrs ago expensive to buy but really lasts. We had kids and grandkids living here machine was on 2/3 times a day and it had massive drum too.

I’ve only had three washing machines in 43 years, and my current one was only because I moved house and my old one did not fit. They were all made by AEG so not cheap. I’m not sure how many programmes it has but it’s very easy to select exactly what you want. I mainly use one programme them adjust the temperature to either 30°, 40° or 60° then change the timing to 50 minutes. I’m sure there is a quick, short wash but I’ve never used it.

Mine is an LG ThinQ. Good choice of adaptable programmes. There are also others that you can download and install.
It sends a message to my phone when it's finished which is more useful than I thought it would be, especially if I'm busy and have several loads to do.

Would you be able to repair it yourself with Sugru, nandalot?

I've had Samsung machines and really liked them.

I have a Siemens 9Kg it has vario speed and choice of spin speeds on all programs shortest quick wash 15 mins.

I have a Samsung washing machine, it's a couple of years old now and all seems good with it. Shortest wash/spin is approx 15 min, but can up the spins, rinses etc so takes a little longer for every adjustment I make, but still only 36 mins max time. I like Samsung, and have TVs, phones from them too.
I have always been told not to pay for extra insurance cover for these sort of goods, but judging how much you use it, it may be worth doing in your case.

Mine is a John Lewis branded one which is now 15yrs. It has never broken down. It has various short wash options. No complaints.

Same here. I worship my Miele washer.

I've had several washing machines over 50 years. The Miele washer dryer is the absolute best. Never any problems with it thankfully. It's nearly 15 years old now and still going strong.

Oh, I wish I could afford a Miele, as that seems to be the most reliable from the views on here.
I have found an AEG one I could afford.
Further to my old washing machine. I found the receipt for it yesterday. I only bought it inApril 2021. When the original door went it was just over a year old. I wish I had contacted the company then but instead got a local appliance electrician to fit a genuine hoover part.
I am thinking I might go on their twitter feed….I have never done anything like that but I am so annoyed!

I have recently bought one of these, and am quite happy with it, there are a big range of programs, the shortest is 14 mins which is perfect for freshening up my granddaughters swimming kit.
I had a huge Bosch one for about fifteen years, and I miss the big capacity and find I’m having to take more to the dry cleaners , but that’s the only complaint.
I have just bought a Samsung drier, and am having to adjust to every load taking over three hours!

I have a miele powerwash 2 XL, 9kg and a max spin speed of 1600 rpm

They tried to sell me a lower capacity machine but that had a lower spin speed. Young sprog lad who had probably never had to do a wash in his life

I can stuff this machine full and eg my one whole wash has been hanging out today for an hour in the sun

It does have quick washes and almost every wash can have time taken off

My sister told me about miele, she had hers for 20 years

I also like the gentleness of miele eg I recently washed 3m of wool fabric on delicate and it was completely undamaged

Mil always told us to buy the best we could afford but could not afford a miele when the children were at home

karmalady Sat 19-Nov-22 09:37:06

ps. my miele adjusts energy and water according to weight

aggie Sat 19-Nov-22 09:42:11

I have a Bosch , it’s only a few months since I bought it , it has loads of fancy programs but I just use the one I understand , I like that I can pick the spin speed

I have an AEG with large capacity which I bought in a John Lewis sale so it was comparatively priced. If you shop around you can get better cheaper. Sometimes it might be a discontinued model.

My LG does this as well on some of the programmes.

Sara1954 mine is a 10kg one which is a lot bigger than my previous machine so I'm happy with it.

I used to childmind for a lady who said she'd finally achieved her dream Miele machine! I'd never heard of them at the time.

Rereading all your posts, I have looked again at the Miele. Do you think it is worth going for the cheapest 9kg.one. I could just about afford that provided I persuade myself it will be a saving in the long run. I don’t need one with an app or anything like that.

My good old Bosch was an 11 kg, it was a huge machine, but we are a smaller family now, so it’s working out fine, I like the big range of programs, and also the fact that you fill up the softener drawer, so don’t have to do it every wash.

Auntieflo Sat 19-Nov-22 14:16:50

Nandalot, we have had our Miele washing machine, since 2006, and it has never given is any trouble.
There are only two of us now, and it is used 2/3 times a week. Still very quiet when it spins
I would choose one again if necessary.
Our dishwasher is also a Miele, and about the same age. Still going strong.

Lilliesmum79 Sat 19-Nov-22 16:55:13

I went on Miele website and saw this one is it any cheaper?
