Has my mouth got smaller?

I used to watch my DMiL and DM eating and wonder at how they often missed their mouths and food went down their front.
Now I find, particularly eating tomatoes or jam, that I too am prone to miss my mouth and end up with a stained jumper.
Does anyone else have this problem?

For years (I'm 63), I've managed to spill food down me! It lands on my more-than-ample bosom. When eating out, I avoid soup, custard or gravy.

I'm the same.

And me. I've got a couple of old tea-towels which I drape across my chest when eating in alone. Makes me feel like a baby but also makes common sense.
I'm very careful when eating out....confused

😂 Not ordering gravy (sauce?) Based foods is difficult.
Even steak and chips has pepper sauce.
I havent eaten out much in the last few years, but peas are a problem!

The left hand side of my face has residual weakness from the brain injury and I sometimes feel like there’s a hole in my lip…

Like HowVeryDareYou I avoid certain foods when out. At home I tuck a napkin round my neck.

Leaning over the plate when moving food to one's mouth helps prevent drips and drops onto clothing. DD is always telling GS2 to do that.

I'm the same it lands on the bossom shelf. At home, I tuck the napkin into my top like a man.
My GD said it all,"Gran you have a Roahl Dahl mouth", I knew what she meant she had been reading about the grandparents with mouths like a dog's bum!!! It made her laugh when I said I might also have a pistol in my knickers.
Like others have said I'm careful what I choose when eating out. Rice is way off the list, peas at a push literally, no soup.blush

A la Hercule Poirrot. He always tucked a napkin (probably even clipped it) over his clothes when eating, so you're in good company, Bloss 🙂

I would love to find some really big dinner napkins like the ones used by Don Corleone in ‘The Godfather’ Baggs!

When eating my porridge in a morning, often find I have slopped some onto the tablecloth.

Probably doesn’t help that I am scanning GN at the time.

I love your DGD's comment Yammy!

When florals were all the rage, I had my ‘curry blouse’, in shades of brown, red, yellow, and orange. When eating out, I could dribble to my heart’s content!

Someone once bought me a baby's bib - one of those plastic things with a lip, like a trough. grin.

Namsnanny I use a spoon at home, for some meals - curry, stew, bolognese (I cut the spaghetti into small pieces).

I'm the same.

Me too! Usually when I’m wearing white! If I manage to get through the meal without dropping any food you can bet that I will drop a piece of cutlery as I collect the plates.

Auntieflo Sun 20-Nov-22 14:11:39

It's nearly always something with tomatoes, or curry that I manage to decorate my tops with.

Soup! It's always soup for me. I reckon I have a soup disability and it runs through a hole in my lip. It's happened for years though.

When I'm out having a meal, if there's a choice between mushy or garden peas with my fish and chips, I always choose mushy peas because they're easier to cope with. At home, I lean forward and pull the plate to me as near as I can to avoid a mess on the tablecloth.

I can almost hear my dear late mum resignedly saying, "Oh, look what you've done to my nice clean tablecloth!"

Blossoming Sun 20-Nov-22 16:27:53

I do the same with plates lbc1955 and as Baggs mentioned I lean over my plate.

I can’t use my left hand to hold a fork, so I use my fork in my right hand. I try to choose food I can easily eat with a fork, though with years of practice I can eat ‘neatly’ most of the time and nobody notices I’m not using my left hand smile

I'm another one with a 'generous bosom' who invariably manages to drop stuff down it! And yes, it's usually something tomatoey or like curry which leaves a stain!

She's so innocent and doesn't realise she is being cheeky. She suggested I got a pelican bib one of the plastic ones with a trough.
