Hurray for Charlotte!

Another here who thinks that if the late queen and the Dof E wanted the title to go to Edward then that's where it should go. Their wishes should be honoured.

I'm learning, volver

Although I did have a great-aunt who was descended from Edward IV.

Popsie Wed 30-Nov-22 17:36:20

She’s a little girl. She’s already a princess. Think that’s fine for now. So unfair to Edward who is the only child of the Queen who has never really had any issues and married to the late Queens favourite. What a shame. So ridiculous.

Glad to see you know your place Callistemon wink

I should join you.

Callistemon21 Wed 30-Nov-22 17:22:17

I'm common.

I'll đŸ€

Are you being serious? Please tell me you're not.

Nicolenet Wed 30-Nov-22 16:53:42

It is not up to common Commoners to discuss it. End of subject.

Charles genuinely can’t win. If Edward has the title he will be accused of not slimming down the royal family titles to the direct heir and family. If he doesn’t give it to Edward he will be dishonouring his parents’ wishes. What’s a King to do? If I were him I’d keep quiet and let the speculation (with no evidence) continue.

Quite!

Scrap all the ridiculous titles and the ‘royal’ family - problem solved

Sexism is still alive and well at the Palace. Poor Louise.

I doubt that she's bothered.

Oops, crossed posts.

Has there been an announcement, then? If so, I seem to have missed it. You’d think the beeb would at least have given it a one liner in the news. Beneath the latest shootings in the US of course
..

Theoddbird Wed 30-Nov-22 15:36:32

So...an unnamed source in the palace told the Daily Mail. I will wait for the official announcement. If true (doubtful) Charlotte would get the title as an adult I think. I would like the title to go to Edward. The Queen was close to him and Sophie. There was an uncalled for comment on here about Edward leaving the marines. I think he was very brave saying it was not for him. I admired him for doing this. Can't have been easy.

Calendargirl Wed 30-Nov-22 15:32:27

As has been stated before, the Princess Royal title is for the eldest daughter of the monarch, grand daughters don’t come into it.

Charles had no daughters, so the PR title should be in abeyance after Anne until William becomes King, when Charlotte could be given that title.

I suspect if George V1 had not died so young, his elder daughter Elizabeth would have been made PR, but as she ascended the throne earlier than was ever anticipated, it was not to be.

Libbee Wed 30-Nov-22 15:06:43

It was promised to Edward by the Queen and Prince Philip. Charles is an ars*** if he doesn’t honour their wishes. Charlotte can have the Princess Royal title after Princess Anne which I think is more appropriate. You would think Charles would like to stop family problems but if he does this he’s opening up a new row.

Most laws are not retrospective.

It is for Louise, it seems.

It was a feudal rule which changed in 2011 so it isn’t still alive and well.

Not a royalist as most people know, but disappointed that this title wasn't given to Edward so that Louise, the granddaughter who shares the late Duke's passion for carriage driving, could inherit one day. There's no need for a child as young as Charlotte to be carrying a Duchess title around; it's really quite ridiculous! Besides, she's bound to take the Princess Royal title on the demise of Anne!

Louise wouldn’t inherit any title. It would go to her brother, James because the right of succession belonging to the firstborn son didn’t change until 2011 when William and Kate married. Their firstborn was a boy so Charlotte was the first girl to be affected by this change.

Babsbada Wed 30-Nov-22 13:21:24

Complete nonsense the whole ruritania farce

A little girl with big shoes to fill. I wish her all the best.

I understood that the Duke if Edinburgh wanted the title to pass to Edward so it seems petty of Charles to ignore that and give it to a child. I admire the King but can sometimes be disappointed when he does things like this. Edward has worked hard for the D if E scheme for years now and should have this title, as his father wanted.
