Wow. Thank you for sharing FN. I take The Times, but probably would have missed this.
Suki’s mother must be an incredible woman to have dealt with all of that.
The story about Virginia’s death is awful

I think it’s a very well written article, and hope that Suki has gained some peace by writing it. How she describes Jan echoes other articles I’ve read about the selfishness and narcissism that trans widows and their children have to put up with if the marriage continues.

What a very interesting article. The few trans people, (m-f), I have met socially and through work all fit the description given here of being very selfish narcissists, who crazily cannot be challenged in any way as this currently would be a criminal act.

About 10 or so years ago I taught a little seven year old girl. She was one of the brightest children I have known, but she was borderline neglected.
Her father was her single parent and he was transitioning.
I often think about her

I read the article too.
I’ve only once had much to do with a man who transitioned.
It was years and years ago. We had some interesting conversations about his decision as I was removing his facial hair by electrolysis. Although I felt that his path wasn’t going to be easy and felt some sympathy his selfishness with regard to his wife and child was staggering.

A good writer but obviously no saint.

I’d never heard of Jan Morris but read this article. So sad for her daughter who endured this. Frankly, Jan Morris might have been a brilliant accomplished writer but she was clearly a selfish complex individual with no thought for her family.

Another who wrote so wonderfully for children but was so cruel to her own children was Enid Blyton. All very strange.

Thank you for making that article available; it enlarges on what was being said, albeit discreetly, towards the end of Jan Morris's life. A tragedy for those children and his wife.
