Our lovely, kind, long-suffering neighbour popped in for morning coffee. He gave us a smart phone ages ago. We still haven't mastered it. Isn't it sad when, instead of a smart phone with bells and whistles, we two oldies still prefer a basic old-fashioned thingy, minus the bells and whistles. The local mast has been out of action for almost three months. Apparently, "spares" for repair have not yet been supplied. Hence, our trusty old-fashioned Nokia cannot function. So...the kind neighbour continues to attempt to drag us into the modern world. hmm

Ali23 Pop in any time. You can spend an afternoon "educating" me. I only ever use the computer to visit Gransnet. It suits my level of intelligence. grin

hulahoop I'm intrigued. Must take a look at the Sherpa bed set.

We're having one last taste of Xmas goodies. Bank holiday Tuesday (in Scotland) is to blame. wink

Night night, dear Kitcheners. I shall be back with you tomorrow. We have a coffee date with friends in the village. Back with you after lunch. smile moon

SueDonim Tue 03-Jan-23 18:15:02

Today I’ve removed all things Christmas from the house apart from two candles which I’ll continue to burn until they’re finished. The tree is outside and hopefully will survive to serve us again next festive season. Dh has hoovered downstairs so it’s all looking neat and tidy again.

That’s about it from me. I haven’t slept well these last few nights so I’m hoping to conk out this evening and wake ready for a new day tomorrow.

Take care everyone. TOYA. xxx

Just popping my head around the kitchen door for a minute as we’ve got the two DGC here for a sleepover- they’ve eaten, cleaned their teeth and ones got PJs on already. We’ve turned off the TV and they’re playing happily with their toys, dolls and cars on the carpet in the lounge. It sounds good - it probably won’t last long! They’ve already negotiated another half hour before bedtime - I’m a total pushover! 😂

‘Evening All’

As Maw says ... I was ‘zorsted’ earlier! In a good way. We minded the grandchildren. I hated the alarm going off at 6:30pm jolting is from our slumbers!

The Boy Wonder loves his PlayStation. L’il Miss whispered “I think he loves his PS more than me”. Aw!

We had a ‘boy’s camp’ and a ‘girl’s camp’. The Boy Wonder wanted lunch at home (Himself can do hot dogs & ketchup!) and L’il Miss and I went to the independent café round the corner from theirs ... she took her colouring book and felt tips, plus a soft dog toy (as you do) because ‘it’s his turn grandma’. Fair enough.

I rang my stepfather (no apology needed soop) and was heartened to here (a) he’d had no further nosebleeds (is that cream working so soon?) and (b) he’d caught up on his sleep ... good style. Apparently he went to bed last night at 7pm and apart from 2 bathroom visits, slept solidly for 14 hours. Wowzer! I said to him he’d had 2 night’s worth in one session. He is still very tired. I told him that was to be expected until the iron tablets kick in and, in time, the vitamin B12 injections too. Anyway, for now, he’s doing well. Thank you dear kitcheners for your sweet concern. x

Good evening dear Kitcheners. Glad your stepfather is doing well Urms. It’s been ghastly weather here, not much done as we are both feeling quite lethargic! We need to do a supermarket shop tomorrow, not yet back into a routine. Goodnight all x

dustyangel Tue 03-Jan-23 21:32:02

Oh Urms I am so glad your stepfather is feeling a bit better. He feels like family. I’m sure when his medication kicks in he will carry on improving.

cornergran Tue 03-Jan-23 23:01:34

That’s good news urms, you should all sleep well tonight without worrying.

Webbed feet have been ordered today, all the puddles have joined up and roads are beginning to flood. Tomorrows forecast indicates a yellow ball in the sky for a while. Joined up puddles permitting the plan is to head out for breakfast. That means I will need to get up so I’d better wish you all a very good night and get some sleep.

TOYA.

Nannytopsy Tue 03-Jan-23 23:23:21

That’s good news Urms. May it continue.
Horrid wet day here too - they told me Suffolk was one of the driest counties! I think the Christmas tree will finally come down tomorrow.
Sleep tight everyone 💤

Good Wednesday afternoon greetings to our lovely lot.

Can you believe that we are just over half way to needing a new kitchen? It's true that time flies when enjoying good company.

Earlier today, we had coffee with a friend and her daughter who live in the village. Our friend's daughter is having a colostomy in three weeks' time. She has suffered ill health for several years. We are all looking forward to her returning home after surgery and to her health issues greatly improved.

Urms Your dear stepfather is a trooper. Bless him. May he rest well and recover his strength after his recent ordeal.

brook Most grans are "pushovers" when it comes to negotiating with grandchildren. I have fond memories of agreeing to read a bedtime story and being persuaded that three or four is a far better deal. wink

It is piddling with rain. I have started my post festive diet. The Xmas decorations are begging to be removed. Mr Soop went to the village for bread and returned home with a cooked chicken. Need I say more? Sweetie Pie (feral cat) is expected to visit us for breakfast/lunch/supper time soon. Clears throat. grin

Yiayia4 Wed 04-Jan-23 16:06:36

Afternoon Kitcheners.Glad your stepfather is ok Urms.

At last recovering from New year very hectic but lovely.DS is improving, I think he found New Year’s Eve difficult but then it is an emotional night I feel.Anyway they are home now and he’s doing a few hours at work each day so more positive.
All Christmas decs down and put away but I miss the sparkling lights.

Hope Sweetie pie enjoys the chicken.🤣Have a good evening everyone.

Good afternoon Kitcheners, it’s a gusty day here in my corner of Wiltshire.
This morning I met a very old friend for coffees, we met 50 years ago? It was lovely, we continue from where we left off despite not getting together for probably 8 years! Sadly her DH is very unwell, we’re hoping that we can all get together in a couple of weeks. Her DH and mine were friends as children, so many years ago now.
This afternoon we had a half load of logs delivered, or rather dumped in the road 🙄☹️ It took 45 minutes to lug them into the compact wood store by the side door, bleeping hard work! I’m now completely knackered so enjoying a cup of tea while perusing GN.
DH took DDog for a long walk this morning, I dropped them off some 5 miles from home and picked them up about half a mile from home on my way back from coffee! DDog is fast asleep 💤.
A good day one way or another 😊
The moon’s shining brightly already here already!

brook2704 Wed 04-Jan-23 16:47:45

Good afternoon to all kitcheners, it’s been the mildest day here for ages at about 6º, with no ice, snow, rain or wind the entire day. We took the DGC over to Brodie Castle for a run around and a game of hide and seek in the big woods there. The adventure playground with the zip wire was also a big hit and who says you can’t enjoy a picnic in Scotland in January! 🤣
We’ve just dropped them off home now and DH and I are going to recover with a restful evening

BlueBalou To find some goodness in our days is a blessing.

Yia Your lovely son is on the right track. You have been such a huge comfort, I'm sure. He will always be assured of your support and that is priceless.

Time to log off for today. I have managed to side-step all temptation (rich food-wise). I shall therefore polish my halo and wish you all a pleasant evening. smile moon

kittylester Wed 04-Jan-23 17:43:00

Just popping in to check how every is doing.

Did you get any of the chicken soop?

Sounds like a good day, balou.

And glad to hear your DS is getting better,*yiayia*.

I did a lot of bits and bobs this morning (maybe too many) and I'm jiggered now. I have sat under my heated throw all afternoon and I wish I could just stay here till bedtime. Unfortunately, our next door neighbour is coming round for New Year drinks (her idea!!) Is it wrong to hope she gets a little bit poorly?

SueDonim Wed 04-Jan-23 19:07:40

Yia it sounds as though your son is making big strides, compared to your previous posts. ❤️

Brook I’ve enjoyed going to Brodie Castle at daffodil time. Last time we were there we got chatting to one of the gardeners. He told us a tale of how they grow new strains of daffodil and plant them out in beds to see if they’re worth cultivating further. One year, a small child visited and helpfully pulled out all the name labels from one of the nursery beds. Apparently, she was ‘tidying up’. 😫😳😂

We had a lot of post again today. It seems that Wednesday is now our mail day because we have only had post on Wednesdays that last three weeks. 🤔 There were more Christmas cards, including two different cards, both written and signed by the same person, put into just the one envelope. I’m trying to figure out the meaning of that!

I’ve tidied out the medicine chest, getting rid of quite a few vastly out of date meds. I also sorted out the under-the-sink cupboard and made that more rational. We popped into town for a while, too. The afternoons are drawing out a bit already - it wasn’t completely dark at 4:30 today. smile

TOYA. Xxx

Grandmabatty Wed 04-Jan-23 19:44:51

Evening Kitcheners. Just a quick visit today. I visited mum this morning but she had gone back to bed so that was a waste of time. I did have longer with my pal and her partner though. Then a trip through to Stirling to afternoon tea at another friend's house. It was lovely. Her house is so stylish,it's a joy to be there. Kitty is it too impolite to message her that you need to rest? Yiayia it's good to hear that your son seems to be getting better. Brook it sounds like your grandchildren had a marvelous time. Soop Sweetie Pie is one fortunate cat! Have a good evening Kitcheners.

‘Evening All’

I have concerns. My stepfather rang early this morning. He’d had another 2 hour nose bleed at midnight. This poor man. It’s a good job he’s not a ‘panicker’. He did everything the hospital doctor told him to do too, to try to stop the bleeding. Two hours! He must have been exhausted and shaky.

Himself said “I think it’s time to involve his GP”. I agreed. I rang the surgery. Told them it was urgent. They had all the electronic details on the screen from Monday’s hospital visit. I said he urgently needs a vitamin B12 injection. Receptionist said ‘yes that’s what it says here’.

I requested a home visit.
No one came. Not even a courtesy call to a 90y old man to update him.

I told him at 7pm to go to bed. He’s shattered. He has promised to call me in the night if he can’t cope. We are on stand by. I hope he gets a good night’s sleep he needs to.

If the surgery don’t call him tomorrow I’m going over to see his doctor on Friday morning before the weekend kicks in, when everything gets put ‘on hold’ till Monday, to sort this out. How do the elderly cope if they have no-one?

Rant over.

Himself is watching some football. I’m addicted to Happy Valley it’s making me so tense, the acting is superb. I’m on the last episode of series one. I love the deadpan lines delivered by Sarah Lancashire.

I hope my phone doesn’t ring. I’m on high alert.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 04-Jan-23 21:00:19

Urmstongran sending you and D (((hugs)))

I weighed myself today, haven’t done so for three weeks and unbelievably I have list another pound - yippee.

I will now catch up on the kitchen news 😘

Grandmabatty Wed 04-Jan-23 21:29:45

Urms I'm really sorry to hear about your stepdad. I hope he can get it sorted. Cauterisation maybe?

SueDonim Wed 04-Jan-23 22:23:24

Oh Urms. flowers. How appalling that someone who truly needs care is finding it so hard to get anyone to attend to him. I hope tomorrow is a better one. Xx
