Being cooped up in this weather is not like the lockdown.

We know life is going on outside in the world but those of us afraid to venture out because of the ice and snow are not part of it.
How are you managing for fresh food and your daily paper. Have you enough food and prescription medication.

Are you able to keep active and mentally stimulated and not suffering from boredom.

Have you had any medical emergencies that have proved difficult because of the weather.

I’m used to being cooped up for a variety of reasons so am not finding it difficult to cope. I do get cabin fever when I can’t get out though, and I would find life very difficult without Mr. B.

Do your own research !

It’s snowing here and a bottle of Mr.Harvey’s finest is keeping me company. I’m fine, thank you.

Hazel - do you think there’s an ulterior motive to this thread?

Do your own research!

That’s a bit sharp, the OP has put it under ‘Chat’, and I think she just wanted to hear how others were coping.

travelsafar Thu 15-Dec-22 12:47:05

Calendergirl thank you. I am just interested, there is no hidden agenda. Those of you who like me have been a gransnet member for many years will know this to be true.

hazel93 Thu 15-Dec-22 12:48:59

Yes, very sharp but I think this is more a questionnaire than any form of caring .
Just not the way people speak is it ?

Oopsadaisy1 Thu 15-Dec-22 12:53:29

Staying indoors isn’t a problem for me, shopping is being delivered, it was a bit icy on the roads this morning for the dog walk, but apart from that it’s fine.
I’m doing the December drawing challenge and I have my kindle, so I’m not bored.
I’ll be starting the Christmas cooking soon so will be busy then and will long for a restful January.

travelsafar Thu 15-Dec-22 13:01:11

hazel93 I just interested to see how others cope in these situations. Sometimes others come up with a good idea or make suggestions I personally haven't thought about. Nothing sinister I promise.

hazel93 Thu 15-Dec-22 13:04:44

In which case I apologise. No hard feelings I hope.

biglouis Thu 15-Dec-22 13:07:02

We had a powdering of fresh snow last night (Manchester) so all is white outside.

My groceries and prescriptions are delivered so no need to go out. I know what packages are coming and hopefully when so no need to open the door. If I want to know whats going on outside I have my CCTV cameras and ring doorbell. Have enough to do in the house so not really interested in whats going on outside. Life will go on without my input.

None at all hazel93👍😊

I’ve been out to shop and walk as I always do just taking more care and wearing appropriate footwear. Thankfully I’m very lucky that I still can.

Do you have an online supermarket account Travelsafar? There is a market trader local to me who will deliver fresh fruit and veg boxes, perhaps there is something similar in your area.

I read news online rather than a daily paper, my banking is done online and my prescriptions are ordered online. I could opt to have my prescriptions delivered but prefer to collect them in person. Mr.B drives me anywhere I need to go.

Nothing wrong with how it was said.

Georgesgran Thu 15-Dec-22 13:27:26

I’ve just screwed the lid back on Mr.Harvey’s finest, as BF has just suggested we go out tonight for fish and chips. It’s raining here and much milder (for now) so happy to go - saves cooking too!

midgey Thu 15-Dec-22 13:34:01

Has anyone noted the weather forecast for Tuesday? 12 degrees!!

Georgesgran Thu 15-Dec-22 13:36:36

We have a forecast of 6 for Tuesday - not knocking it - bring it on, but it’s bringing a 30% chance of rain with it.

Kim19 Thu 15-Dec-22 13:39:35

I go out daily but am careful to walk in crunchy fresh snow. Having a problem with frozen pipes even though house is fully heated. Old double glazed windows are also icing up inside. Think the metal frames contribute to this. Roll on weekend when it is apparently scheduled to warm up considerably to 5 degrees. Yippee!

How rude and hurtful. You might think it but keep those thoughts in your head. I don’t think they need to be shared.

AreWeThereYet Thu 15-Dec-22 13:47:26

No snow so swept bags of leaves up off the drive before the rain arrives and took them to the tip. The garden waste bin is already full and the drive is still half covered in leaves 🥺 Brought home a Greggs festive bake, reheated it and it's warming me up nicely 😋

Grandmabatty Thu 15-Dec-22 13:47:26

I'm in bed for the second day, suffering from covid or a similar virus. I feel very unwell. I'm waiting for tests to arrive but I won't be going out soon. Hopefully my DD will get me bread if I need it but eating is problematic as I have no appetite.

Norah Thu 15-Dec-22 13:55:09

We have Parson Terriers, we must walk 4 times a day, good walking footwear. That's us moving about for the day.

I made biscuits for GGC to frost. They walked over, that was lovely.

We also cooked/served Christmas yesterday, 4 daughters with families equals 4 meals. Two Christmas are now accomplished, half way done.

I'm making candy for gifts, sorting money to written cards for tips. We have quite a long list of people who receive tips and small pressies.

I have sheets washing, soon to dry. Load of jeans. Floors to wash.

We're luckily together and can keep busy easily. smile

ayse Thu 15-Dec-22 13:58:08

I’m wary about going out when it’s freezing and there’s lots of ice. It’s just snowed here and I’m debating whether or not to take the car to collect the grandchildren from school. I have to take them out at 6.15 and it would be an opportunity to warm the car up a bit so it didn’t freeze quite so hard later.

I can certainly manage to walk but DH is unsteady on his feet so takes the car or stays in. I’m looking forward to it warming up so that the ice under the snow melts.

Lollin Thu 15-Dec-22 14:07:54

Well I slipped about yesterday, too hilly where I needed to walk. I decided to walk in the road but the edges were not much better so I’m staying inside until I the ice melts. I have some piles for sorting in readiness for the charity or tip but I’m messaging and phoning others instead!
