Thin panties and no bra? Did a man write that?
Every generation think they’re cool😄 and the next generation and the one after think they came out of the ark.

Oh our generation has been the coolest. Absolutely no contest.

I was too young for most of that, but my friend's daughter and her emo/goth pals were mightily impressed when they discovered my tastes in music, so I guess that counts.

gin and tonics? beer lager and cider more like - who remembers Bredbury Hall, Monday night, I was always late for work in Manchester the next day, after 4 hours sleep and two steak sandwiches.
When I was 22 and thought I would live forever …

Zoejory Sat 17-Dec-22 19:59:21

And the best thing of all was no mobile phones. No parents wanting to know where we were and what we were doing. Happy days smile

MayBee70 Sat 17-Dec-22 20:12:02

I never drank cider after getting very drunk on scrumpy when I was 17! And after 19 I never drank Barley Wine. I can still feel the pain…

That still leaves you with lots of choice though🙂

OxfordGran Sat 17-Dec-22 20:30:06

also… when I think of some of the things I got up to during my student days in Manchester, I would seriouslynot want my girls to know… but 50 ! years ago times were more innocent, weren’t they, I don’tremember drugs even in clubs in Manchester, Northern Soul, Twisted Wheel, Time and Place, then,
the Hacienda !

now if I knew my gd’s were off clubbing,I would have a completelydifferent perspective !
yes we were cool,

wehad Jean Shrimpton,
Marianne Faithfull,
Mini skirts
Rolling Stones
Kings Road
the.Pill
avocado pears
Germaine Greer

cool as cool

I loved Bredbury Hall OxfordGran!
I was skinny. I loved my long legs in hot pants. I was confident with my false eyelashes and black nail polish on my naturally long nails.
Biba perfume in it’s iconic yellow atomiser or Estée Lauder ‘Youth Dew’.
I could dance (and not just round a handbag!).
Pretended I liked listening to John Peel’s nonsense on Radio 1 of a Sunday evening.p, when really I preferred Northern Soul at Mr Smith’s or the Twisted Wheel in Manchester City centre.
Then the late night bus home from Piccadilly Gardens (relief when it turned up as by that time of night, things were getting a bit dodgy with some characters).

Happy Days.

Gold label barley wine, at one time was in the Guinness book of records of the strongest drink, well beer.. I got a well slaughtered many times on that, there was another brand called stingo but it did not have the same kick. I also used to drink Cherry B and pony mix together….🤢..

Wow! we may have met at o e of the bars! this would be early 70’s
gosh
I met my husband there
unfortunately

I do nt remember black. nail polish but steak sandwiches upstairs,
hot pants! yes! thought I was the bees knees !

I lived in Fallowfield, near the Toastrack, remember the record exchange place, what was it called, happy wonderful days, worked hard, studied hard, played hard, so cool ha ha

Urmstongran Sat 17-Dec-22 20:48:53

Yes, perhaps we did OxfordGran! I lived in Stretford with my parents and sister.
Got married in 1974.
Had a mortgage (Boy I was only a baby then, just 20y!) so put away my dancing shoes.
I did love those carefree times when the getting ready and the excitement of the evening ahead held such possibility!

The black nail polish was 1970. I think I was the first ever to wear it ‘up North’.
I’d seen it in a national magazine and ‘sent off for it’ with a postal order.
The name of it escapes me but my brain is bubbling, trying to recall it. It may come to me. Wisps are swirling ...

70s teenager hot pants, flairs and white boots.
Purple for me, was the colour of the decade.
Purple bedroom 💜
My parents went on holiday, I painted the bathroom Purple!
Still my favourite colour, still have Purple in my bedroom although not in the walls.

Often brought the milk in after a night out.
A pub lock in or a friends 'empty' ( parents away) alright party.

Cherrytree59 Sat 17-Dec-22 20:55:11

All night!

Urmstongran Sat 17-Dec-22 20:59:59

Ha! Just remembered that nail polish brand!
It was Woltz Italiana.

Jimjam1 Sat 17-Dec-22 21:01:07

Barley Wine. I remember it well. Sends chiver’s up my arms just thinking about it. I remember Biba doing a black nail varnish.
