I used to find him mildly amusing and sometimes offensive, but his latest rant in the pages of The Sun is just sick beyond belief.

Would there be the same outrage if he was talking about Boris.?

I can't speak for others but I dislike Johnson intensely.

However if anyone voiced an 'opinion' that they hated him more than Fred West and wanted to see him dragged through the streets naked and have excrement thrown at him...

YES, I would be outraged. Because it's inhumane, barbaric, and inciteful to violence from others. Because no-one should be treated like that.

I didn't understand the allusion to 'Game of Thrones' but that doesn't make the comment any less offensive.
The problem is it will give M justifiable scope for playing the victim.

In this instance - she is the victim.

“Everyone who’s my age thinks the same way.”

No, apparently they don't, Jeremy.
Nor do any right-minded people of any age.
Surprise.

So often politicians and others with extreme right wing views presume to speak for "everyone".

I heard Suella Braverman do this today saying "everyone" supported her policy of sending asylum seekers to Rwanda.

No we do not.

I've noticed how certain politicians do that.

"The British people think...." "The British people are...

I think Clarkson was simply excusing himself - everyone thinks like me and I'm just saying what others think, kind of excuse.

JPB123 Mon 19-Dec-22 20:27:52

Last words. Jeremy who?

hollysteers Mon 19-Dec-22 20:28:53

I sang at a family wedding he attended and sat next to his mother, who was v. nice.
I’m afraid he gives Yorkshire men a bad name, but then I can’t stand Paxo or Michael Parkinson as well as a few I can’t remember.

hollysteers Mon 19-Dec-22 20:40:55

Disgusting as it is, it’s not particularly racist.
Fraternisers in France at the end of WW2 had this shaming treatment as well as Irish people who acted in the same way.

Wyllow3 Mon 19-Dec-22 21:18:36

This time - she is the victim. But it exposes his underlying mind set/racism that he would say that in that disgusting way.

He is a really nasty piece of work, isnt he! what's scary is clearly we know others do feel like him or the Mail wouldn't have published it. I hope action is taken against the mail. its not good enough they say, "We are just reporting what is said". Unless there is the unlikely but desirable result that Mail readers call him out on s significant scale.

LRavenscroft Mon 19-Dec-22 21:21:34

Jeremy Clarkson's comments are so wrong on every level. He has let himself down as a broadcaster, presenter, columnist, man, English person. I am not a fan of H & M but he has insulted Harry's wife beyond the pale and has presented them with the very evidence they were talking about in their docuseries. Shocking.

Amazing, isn't it, how some lovely women have such abominably behaved sons.

I remember that she made the first Paddington Bear soft toy.

The very first Paddington bear soft toy was designed in the UK by a lady called Shirley Clarkson. She made it as a Christmas present for her children, Joanna and Jeremy Clarkson

Reluctant as I am to defend the Mail, his column was published in the Sun.

Not all Yorkshire men - have you watched Peter Wright, the Yorkshire Vet?

The Sun, that is the paper which blamed the Hillsborough disaster on the fans.

I'm amazed anyone reads it.

My apologies to the Mail. grin

Wyllow3

My apologies to the Mail. grin

Don't apologise.

The Mail has reported it but seems to be relishing in repeating what he said several times.

And it has prompted a response from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who today asked what 'makes somebody so distorted by hate that they end up writing these things?'

I wouldn’t want to be in the same room with him, but I don’t wish him any harm. The fact he seems to hate women is just so sad.

Cressy Mon 19-Dec-22 22:55:15

👏 Doodledog Absolutely hateful, misogynistic comments but not necessarily racist.

What DD said:
‘The comments made to Baggs for not picking up on a KKK reference are unreasonable if in fact Clarkson's reference was to GoT, and not the KKK. Regardless of whether he was picking up on a race-related thing or a fictional 'fantasy' one, what he said was appalling, which is what Baggs was saying, I think.’

Ramblingrose22 Mon 19-Dec-22 23:34:19

Has anyone commented on JC's attempt to excuse himself by saying he is horrified for having caused hurt in his column? Pathetic or what?

The man has always been an enormous ego and probably thought his column was highly amusing. Who cares about his opinion anyway? This time he wasn't writing about cars or farming which he knows more about than I do.

He simply wants to appeal to his laddish followers by mentioning a naked Meghan appearing in his dream. But all he has done is expose his racism and mysoginism.

This episode reminds me of when Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand tried to trick an elderly Andrew Sachs when he had dementia? They thought it was just a funny joke whereas anyone with a sense of decency could see it was cruel and nasty. At least the two got banned from appearing on the BBC for a while (though not for long enough IMHO).

I am not surprised that the Sun publishes it without hesitation but why didn't Laura Kuenssberg ask the Sun's female editor last Sunday morning on her programme to justify its publication?

It appears that racism and mysoginy are accepted now and those who abhor them are "snowflakes".

Quokka Mon 19-Dec-22 23:44:28

Well if anyone thought the Sussex’s were exaggerating this rather proves their point!

Anniel Tue 20-Dec-22 00:29:33

The left on Gransnet is always right...if you do not agree with them you are wrong and uneducated. I read all your posts, being told about the KKK as though we are ignorant know nothing individuals. Now Camilla must be careful who she invites to palace parties.I thought there were other workers drawing up lists of invitees. I take as much interest in Jeremy Clarkson's likes and dislikes and pronouncements as I do of those of the England football manager. I read Gransnet but sometimes the usual people are outraged by something that somebody who loves to stir the populace has to say. Volver sticks around although cleaning her toilet is intellectually more stimulating than reading anything that people who disagree with her have to say. How insulting can anyone get? It is certainly not an intellectual level of argument in my opinion.

volver Tue 20-Dec-22 06:30:05

I can get really insulting.

You should see me on a good day.

volver Tue 20-Dec-22 06:43:33

It is certainly not an intellectual level of argument in my opinion.

Whereas dredging up someone's past username to try to belittle them, then typing random syllables about it, is the height of intellectual rigour?

That's not disagreeing. That's being infantile.

vegansrock Tue 20-Dec-22 06:46:22

Do we wonder why there is so much misogyny, violence and abuse daily against women and girls.? Or do we take it as such an everyday experience that it’s acceptable? Even many women blame the victims and support pondlife like Clarkson in their hateful rants.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 20-Dec-22 06:53:06

After reading so many comments about my reference to the KKK, I think that perhaps I should apologise for making the assumption that those who lived through the period of the Civil Rights movement, Martin Luther King and the groups that resisted the movement like the KKK, could not fail to have imbibed this period and were fully aware of the history of the black movement as a result.

I was wrong.

It explains a lot.

Allsorts Tue 20-Dec-22 06:53:53

No time for the man. The Sun obviously passed it, they take responsibility too, but obviously wanted to stir things up
just a bit more, it sells papers. Never read the Sun, headlines bad enough.
The speaking of anyone in that way is awful. You say its rascist, how does that apply to Nicola Sturgeon?
Anniel, the far left are not worth taking notice of, you couldn't engage in an intelligent conversation with them, entrenched in their bitterness.
The only programme that I have watched JC in was the one about farming that he did, as no one else did it from the farmers perspective.

VioletSky Tue 20-Dec-22 07:16:38

I've always seen myself as a moderate but apparently I'm a far left not worth listening too because it's clear that sexism and racism are still a thing that need shouting at till they go away.
