Bloody Parkinsons

As many of you will know my late OH had Parkinsons. I have just heard from my brother that he too has received the same diagnosis. I am gutted.

I had begun to think this might be the case but hoped it might be otherwise.

It beings it all back.

Really sad news..
My mum had Parkinson's disease..its awful...her hallucinations were horrendous..Parkinson's related psychosis....my best friends H now has it along with another female friend of ours....you have had a terrible time already with your H suffering from it...💐

The ward where I volunteer has many Parkinson's patients as it's the Consultant's speciality. The variety of symptoms and their apparent severity is marked. Some don't seem to have huge problems but others clearly do.
Obviously, they're in hospital but sometimes for things like strokes or falls rather than Parkinson's. I do hope your family member is one of the lucky ones whose illness is well managed for as long as possible.

I am so sorry, Luckygirl, this is not something you wanted to deal with again. Hope the progress is slow and not tormenting the way it was for your DH. I wouldn’t wish my late DH’s last year on anyone and hope good care and support are available, though just at present that feels like a forlorn hope.

That's interesting - lucky. The 3 people with MND live near pylons!

I have noticed that MND seems to be prevalent in super fit men.

Luckygirl3 Wed 21-Dec-22 09:14:13

PD is known to be a disease of rural areas. There has to be a link with something .... ?pesticides/herbicides. MND was associated with sheep dip, but I think the formula has been changed now.

kittylester Wed 21-Dec-22 08:28:53

We seem to have an epidemic of MND in our village - 3 people who live next door to each other as well as others.

Another evil disease.

So sorry to hear this Luckygirl I too remember your struggle. I have a friend with it and I admire how she is coping. She can still hit a ball at the golf course. All cases are different and there are new medications.

Luckygirl3 Tue 20-Dec-22 20:05:42

Thank you for your kind words. My tiny village has had 7 cases over the last 15 years and 2 more new in the last couple of years. It is like an epidemic.

I am sorry to hear this. Life is the pits sometimes isn’t it.

MayBee70 Tue 20-Dec-22 18:30:10

How awful. My nephew has it, too. A friend told me the other day though that a friend of his has MND. When he saw him a while back he was in a wheelchair but saw him recently and he was walking and talking almost normally because he’s on a new drug. Let’s all hope that we are close to finding treatment for these awful diseases.

Such sad news Luckygirl3, I'm so sorry to hear that.

Ali23 Tue 20-Dec-22 18:07:45

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear this. My neighbour is at the end stage of a traumatic illness and my SIL has just been diagnosed. I think i hate this disease even more than alzheimers whichhas also struck several relatives.
Sending you 💐

CanadianGran Tue 20-Dec-22 17:52:11

I am so sorry to hear this, what a rotten diagnoses to have.

SueDonim Tue 20-Dec-22 17:51:26

I’m so sorry to hear this, Luckygirl. I, too, remember your super-human efforts to care for your dear husband. flowers

I hope your brother is not as badly afflicted - some people seem to soldier on for many years. flowers

Oh I remember the awful time you had Luckygirl , the delusion is so difficult , Jim died with it , not of it , but he had a hard time too

Luckygirl3 Tue 20-Dec-22 17:27:10

My poor OH became delusional too. Life became very hard. I just hope that my DB does not go the same way. Our Mum had Lewy Body Disease which was first diagnosed as Parkinsons. They are akin.

Oldbat1 Tue 20-Dec-22 17:24:27

I am so sorry.

MerylStreep Tue 20-Dec-22 17:21:32

Luckygirl
It’s not often that I cry over posts on GN. But your long torturous journey with your lovely husband did.

Callistemon21 Tue 20-Dec-22 17:19:38

Oh dear, Luckygirl, you must be thinking 'not again, please'.

My aunt had Parkinson's, it is a dreadful disease.

I am very sorry.

kittylester Tue 20-Dec-22 17:16:06

Oh that is rubbish, lucky! I too remember the awful time you had with dh. Not all instances are the same though.

My sister in law is currently undergoing tests too. Her husband, my brother, seems to have dementia too.

Life is a bitch sometimes!!

NannyJan53 Tue 20-Dec-22 17:11:08

So sorry to hear this. My sons Mother in Law was diagnosed a couple of years ago. She is only my age. Mums partner died with it a few years ago, it is a truly awful disease.

Grandmadinosaur Tue 20-Dec-22 15:43:09

So sorry to hear this. I can understand your feelings of devastation at this news. Life is a bi**h some times. 💐

Aveline Tue 20-Dec-22 15:39:41

Oh dear. Sorry to hear this. I hope it can be helped a little by good medical input.

Grannybags Tue 20-Dec-22 15:39:13

Sorry to hear that Luckygirl

I followed the awful time you went through with your DH and how hard you had to battle on his behalf flowers
