Are you a 'binfluencer'?

I usually wait to put the bins out until a couple of others have done so just to check I've got the right ones.

Sometimes I have done the 'swap of shame' when I've put them out early and them checked later!

Are you an early bird? A person local to us has coined the word 'binfluencer' for those who lead the way!

I do the same, but a neighbour has confused me by leaving their brown bins out all of the time and I put my brown one out following them!

I certainly have a ‘binfluencer’ in my culdesac. She lives opposite to me - the day before binday, I check her bags. We have 6 containers to deal with - blue, orange, white, see-through blue, black sturdy container for glass, and brown sturdy food bin. Sometimes she even texts me the previous day to let me know.😂

Ive written down what colour bins go out on what days on my Calendar, but I have to check to make sure I’m right if a neighbour has put out a different colour bin.

I keep the printed leaflet issued by the council. I am usually the first to put my bins out, before dark the day before. I can't understand those who don't keep track! Perhaps I should get a life! grin

Nah, don't worry, shysal, you're not alone. I have the days of the different bins marked in pretty coloured lines on my calendar and put the bins by the gate at night so they can go out first thing. Binfluencers rule OK!!

Glorianny Sat 24-Dec-22 16:13:53

Well the leaflet from my council is completely useless. It took me a bit to realise after it came out that they hadn't changed the collection day just delivered the wrong leaflet! Still some people seemed to realise before me. Thank goodness for binfluencers!

Can't be ar*ed to keep track of bin colours. I'm lucky if I remember to put them out at all.

I check a range of bins because a lady near me is as clueless as I am.

I've been known to dash out and put the bin out in my nightie and slippers when the noise of the lorry wakes me at 5 something AM. Poor bin men.

I have them on the calendar too Ooopsadaisy1, but I still have to check with the neighbours.
I get confused by bank holidays too - goodness knows what I'll out out when next week!

DH is our 'binfluencer'. He is usually first.

Kate1949 Sat 24-Dec-22 18:16:53

My husband is a binfluencer. He gets up really early in bin days to put ours and our very elderly neighbour's bins back. Although all bins have house numbers in them, he once put someone else's bin on our drive by mistake. The lady rang our bell and asked for her bin back. We now refer to this as 'bingate'. grin

Ha Ha! I'm a bit obsessed.
Annoying neighbours leave theirs out 24/7.
A local band recorded an amusing song based on the council instructions.
Last week, because of roadworks, my bin wasn't emptied. I get very cross.

If in doubt, I just check the council website. I'm amazed at the number of neighbours who always put bins out, on the usual day, following a bank holiday!

Baggs Sat 24-Dec-22 18:37:59

I look at the council refuse collection schedule at the beginning of the year and enter the repeating dates in my online calendar with reminders popping up on my phone the day before any bin collection is due. No point waiting to see what other people do as we are off street and can't see what anyone else has done.

Cabbie21 Sat 24-Dec-22 19:41:20

Our local authority supplies us with a colour-coded calendar which we keep on the inside of a cupboard door. Our bin day is Thursday so it doesn’t change when there is a Bank Holiday.
Last week was grey bin- general rubbish; next week will be blue- recycling. The green bin ( garden waste) collection is suspended in Dec, Jan.

Redrobin51 Sat 24-Dec-22 19:47:38

Its completely thrown me this week as they have decided to do two collections and none next week. Monday was grey bin and then today grey bin again and recycling. I honestly would need a degree to come with all the different recycling containers some of you have.

Barmeyoldbat Sat 24-Dec-22 19:52:50

You are certainly not alone Shysal, Mr B does our and keeps track. I empty the inside baskets.

Calendargirl Sat 24-Dec-22 20:24:11

I like to be the first to bring my bin in.

DH always says “Were you first?”

Feel very smug because a chap over the road is quite prompt, and I like to beat him.

Yes, I need a life!

MiniMoon Sat 24-Dec-22 22:36:32

My husband usually puts the bins out. He has been putting the wrong one out lately so I initialled the calendar with R for rubbish and C for cardboard (recycling). Let's hope he remembers to look at it.

But sometimes they come on the usual day, and sometimes a day late.
Not complaining, I'm always pleased and grateful that they come at all. I just enjoy that the whole thing feels like a game sometimes.
Kate1949 Our elderly neighbour puts our bin away for us!
Minimoon Good luck!

I never touch the bins. My husband has always done them, so it has never occured to me to.

My neighbour who is single does her own bins, but I dont suppose she has a choice.

biglouis Sun 25-Dec-22 01:02:48

My nephew puts out the appropriate bin for me the night before. If the bin men leave it in front of my gate I drag it in. However if they leave it across the street I wait til the next time nephew comes around and he brings it in. With mobility problems even the empty bins are getting a problem for me. Every time he leaves he takes a black bin bag of my stuff with him and dumps it in the communal bin at his flats. That way I dont have to bother with the bins too often. Its a boring chore.

Our collections in South Somerset seem to work well and they have a calendar leaflet as well as emailing for holiday changes. No complaints from me at least.

Grantanow My OH family is in S Somerset - brilliant service there and we found the tidy-tips to be both friendly and well organised, best we've found and with the family spread far and wide we have had cause to visit many! Cherish them!
