Tatts? Had to think about that one. At one time it was frowned on to have pierced ears.
I am procrastinating and need to stop!
Washed towels in the sun and now like sandpaper.
Welsh Senedd Election - PR in action. This will be interesting!
I am sorting out my clothes today ( having a break !) and have a large chuck out pile. I find it easy to get rid of the cheap labels but really hard to let go of the ‘nicer’ ones. I think it is a bit of snobbery on my part because some of the things I find it hard to let go of really don’t look nice. Why do I look at the labels anyway ?
I am also a coffee snob , and to a lesser extent a tea snob.
Am I a people snob, too? Quite likely, though it is hidden in the recesses of the brain - probably a kind of academic snobbery because of my background and the family ethos.

Yes, I know there are different accents in Wales. I live very near North Wales, wher the accent is quite different from the South Wales one. I am not familiar with the subtleties, though, as I am with English accents.
And OF COURSE I wouldn’t refuse to be treated by a doctor with a regional accent. I never said anything of the sort. But I would notice. Anyone can learn to speak standard English, but people don’t choose to as often as they once did. I think that’s a pity, but I know my view is not fashionable. Standard English, RP, whatever you choose to call it, is clear and comprehensible to all. Regional accents often aren’t.
Well you learn something everyday! I didn’t realise that there were different accents within Wales. So my ancestors from North Wales would have a different accent from the Southern Welsh? Fascinating. I do miss the differences and when I lived in the UK I could pick a few to the e act town. Not so here, though there are slight differences but more in vocabulary than accents. Anyway, I digress and back to snobbery- I used to have a snobby attitude towards females with Tatts but it is so common now it is melting away. I still don’t really like them, though. Two grandchildren have them but at least they are discreet ones.
Presumably it's just a Scottish accent, paddyann, just like all Welsh accents are, well, just Welsh!!
sorry that was to Grandma70's
Forlornhope are you saying if the only doctor available to give you life saving treatment had a Glasgow accent (or other accent you consider downmarket) ,you would refuse to be treated.Simply because he didn't sound posh enough?
Now that is SNOBBERY of the worst kind.
I thought that attitude was dead and buried !
Surely we accept that people's accents doesn't equate to their intelligence or compassion or competence in their job ?
People who take no interest the world outside their home.
Thank you Margs
Yes Jane71 - that's definitely hitting the nail on the head.
I don’t mind if a garage hand has a regional accent, but I don’t like it if a doctor has. I know that’s irrational, but it’s how I was brought up, I suppose.
I meant UK regional accents.
Wales is, however, part of the UK.
I'm not following it, sorry.
Wales is a country, not a region, so a Welsh accent isn’t a regional one. Perhaps that’s what you were pointing out
No, Wales is a country, as is England.
English accents vary by region and so do Welsh accents.
A person from Pwllheli will have quite a different accent from someone from Newport or Llandrindod Wells for example.

This puzzles me. Do you mean UK regional accents, or world wide regional accents given the rich mix of folk working in the NHS?I meant UK regional accents. I probably wouldn’t recognise the difference between the regional accents of other countries.
Oh dear, some of our doctors are Welsh.
🤔

^The cheeseboard is primarily from Lidl^
sago one of the best cheeses I tasted this Christmas (and for a long time) was a Cheddar from Lidl in black wax; can't remember the name unfortunately.
I know the one! It’s excellent.

Snobs perched at the top of the tree look down on us mere mortals and see clear and curious eyes looking up. We at the bottom look up and all we can see is arseholes.
😂
And me munching my Lidl cheese!

The bloody English copying the Welsh cheese!
we had a Snowdonia cheese hamper this year, as a treat
😂😂😂
I'll forgive them
Anyway, it was Cheddar - the Welsh copying the people from Zummerzet
I love Blue Mountain coffee but hate instant. I love tea and have a preference for Yorkshire tea.
For me it is not about snobishness it is about personnel preference. My friend drinks about 9 cups of instant a day, his choice, we both like what we like.

We had that Lidl cheddar in black wax Callistemon. It was one of the best cheeses I've ever eaten.
I wonder if it is a relabelled black bomber?
I'm paranoid I'm the only snobbut with eggs you really do get what you pay for. I buy Burford browns if I can't get organic free range ones in our farm shop, which we can't atm as I guess they've all stopped laying because of lack of sunlight and avian flu!
I wonder if it is a relabelled black bomber?
I did wonder if it was Black Bomber but it was even better imo. It wasn't round, it was an oblong and really, it was one of the best cheese I've ever eaten too.
It was made in Cheshire, I think.
It is indeed just amazing, I agree. That with the best Stilton, and I am in heaven. British cheeses were just appearing on EU markets and having such great success- teaching the French and others a thing or two about great cheese- when sadly (won't say the word). What a shame.

I'm a cup snob - tea only tastes nice to me if it's in a China cup! And as for tea or coffee in glass mugs or cups - no, most definitely no!
