report just published that the help line/action line calls to the BBC have dropped from 1.2 million in year 2021 to 850,000 in year 2022 a drop of 350,000 is this a reflection of how fewer viewers watch the BBC?

I find BBC radio channels far superior to the ones with adverts

Susie3042 Sun 01-Jan-23 12:57:43

I totally agree with nodding fan fan
BBC used to be a go to for the News
But now ..... stories are never followed up. Reporters tell THEIR point of view instead of asking relevant questions and are sometimes their accents make it difficult to understand, their pitch drops so you cant get all the sentences
Without their excellent dramas
It wouldn't be worth watching
Oh, I should say, the childrens TV was a God send when my grand children were little.

I mostly listen to the radio. The podcasts and special features are very good still; the news, not so much. I loved listening to The Dark is Rising over the Christmas period, it was very well produced.
And on TV, The Detectorists was charming.

Sorry Gan Gan

BBC seems to be turning into a Sports Channel. Many regular programmes were moved or cancelled through summer and autumn. Also, the quality of many programmes, and presenters, has gone downhill. Good dramas are ruined by their muttered speech with heads turned away from camera. The news is still very well presented though, with top class presenters.

I think the BBC is rapidly declining. Wokery and left wing bias is sadly all too obvious, as is their anti Brexit stance despite a democratic referendum on the same. Educate, inform entertain? Well the entertain bit is sadly missing for me anyway and the rest? If you agree with their views ok. I don’t see balance here and resent having to pay a tax for channels I rarely, if ever, watch. In this age of multi channel, multi streaming I think the whole concept needs re examining.

I posted this on another thread and seem to have got away with it. I'll have another go.

I absolutely hate the BBC , haven’t been impartial for years.
The licence fee should be scrapped and a subscription service for those that want it, it is totally outrageous that you have to pay even if you never watch the BBC at all, if you watch live tv on any other channel you are supposed to pay, unacceptable.
It’s like shopping at Asda but having to pay a fee to Tesco to do so

We may moan at our BBC but oh dear we are really lucky. My two eldest daughters live in France and I was there just before Christmas! Now if you want poor quality tv it’s there! Terrible programmes. Only white journalists and presenters that you realise what an amazing diverse and fantastic BBC & itv we have! When watching other country’s tv channels you then appreciate what you have here. Don’t knock it. We are lucky. Yes this year Christmas programming was poor but that’s only one day! Money is tight for everyone. Maybe Gary Lineker & Zoe Ball, Holly Willoughby & Phillip schofield should take pay cuts to allow some of their excessive wages go to better artists! Who knows. But we are lucky

I got so fed up with the bias and wokery, I cancelled my license over a year ago and they sent me a refund. I watch catch up or netflix and Prime when i bother to register with it.

The bbc is getting more and more woke and boring xmas TV was awful on all channels too many repeats

polly123 Sun 01-Jan-23 14:09:02

BBC programmes this Christmas were generally awful with a few notable exceptions. I prefer Channel 4 news where interviewers are not afraid to challenge interviewees. There is definitely a woke aspect to BBC which grates so we watch a fair amount of Netflix and very little iplayer. Dislike BBC Breakfast programme as I find it mind numbingly boring most of the time with too many tedious and irrelevant celebrity stuff. Do like Marie Antoinette although I recognise the issues around it.

If I read "woke" used incorrectly one more time I may not be responsible for my actions ... 🤪

Maggiemaybe Sun 01-Jan-23 14:17:15

I’m still a big fan. We have Prime and access to Netflix, but have only watched one thing on each (Joker and The Crown respectively). Oh, and that Harry and Meghan thing just so that I knew what people were on about. grin

Adverts, apart from the Christmas ones, do my head in - with the Beeb I don’t need to record in advance so I can skip through them. When I think of series I’ve enjoyed and those I’m looking forward to, nearly all of them are from the BBC. I’ll have my feet up tonight in front of Call the Midwife and Happy Valley - can’t wait!

As for bias, we once sat having our breakfast in a hotel dining room. The table to one side of us were complaining about all the lefties taking over the BBC, the party on the other side were moaning about their right wing bias. What we took from that was that the BBC had got it just right.

Nvella Sun 01-Jan-23 14:25:33

The whole world envies us the BBC and most friends I have who live abroad -especially in the US and Canada - only watch BBC box sets as their own TV (apart from very expensive streaming channels) is so awful. I love the BBC (obviously it gets some things wrong and can’t please everyone all the time) but I still think it makes a lot of superb programmes. I would happily pay 5 x the licence fee for it.

Gilmul Sun 01-Jan-23 14:27:33

Many millions tuned in week after week to watch Strictly come dancing. There’s something for most people the BBC .

I can give an example of left wing bias when the BBC were teaching children aged 9-12 that there were 100 different genders.

Can anyone here give an example of BBC right wing bias?

I watch it but not more than other channel and I like to have a choice. The BBC should be a monthly subscription like everything else so you have a choice in paying or not.

nipsmum Sun 01-Jan-23 15:02:37

There are just so many Antique programmes I can watch. Food programmes too are overdone and get repeated endlessly. The Repair shop is great but can't go on forever. Daytime TV is so repetitive. I am retired and thank goodness for programmes and films I can stream now when I am not able to go out and am not up and about as much as I used to be.

nipsmum Sun 01-Jan-23 15:05:42

Thank you Gulmil but that is only one programme , one night a week and on for 12 weeks of each year. Does that mean we have to put up with repeats forever the rest of the year.

Frogs Sun 01-Jan-23 15:08:55

I must be one of the few people who can’t find anything I’d like to watch on Netflix. I’ve tried Netflix several times but always end up cancelling my membership.

Nannan2 Sun 01-Jan-23 15:10:32

It was ok on BBC1 for christmas day with call the midwife, ghosts special- and the eastenders christmas storyline was exceptionally good. One or 2 other programmes here or there over the festive week (enjoy 2doors down from bbc scotland) but really to say the cost of licence its a rip off really. Used to be that bbc was THE place to be at christmas season for all sorts of viewing.Sadly thats gone i think..And Radio Times used to be the (only 1 at first) main tv guide especially xmas time.I saw price this year (£5.25) and bought a much cheaper £1.50 one instead!

Farage had been on Question Time 33 times by 2018.

Ukip appeared on almost a quarter of the Question Time programmes in the years 2010 to 2017 - despite never having more than two MPs.
