A little bit of help is worth a lot of pity.

When I'm at my sewing machine, "Don't bodge it!" frequently rings in my ears!!

I don't hear the voice, but every time I pass a mirror, a much fatter version of my late mum is looking at me grin

Yes , very often.

I also hear the voice of my Driving Instructor, “are you really going to overtake here” or “ are we going to get out of second gear soon”

Picking up secateurs to prune the roses I hear my dad telling me to cut to an outside bud - and then hear him sigh if I don’t!

Yes, every time I attempt to turn up a hem or sew on a button I hear my mother: 'stitches as big as hedge stakes, stitches as big as hedge stakes!'
One reason I took a vow when quite young that I would work really hard and get a good job so I would never need to make my own clothes.
But I can cook well.

Oh I can relate! Without fully realising it I have turned into a combination of my Mum & Dad! “I’ll do what I like” was my late Mum’s Mantra - I’m embracing that more and more. “Never do a job unless you can do it well” was my perfectionist Dad’s view on everything.

Grandparent actually. When shopping at Christmas time, my Nanna’s voice saying “You know better than that”, should my hand hover near paper table napkins, jars of mincemeat, or, horror of horrors “bought” mince pies. The only item I have resisted of late is the paper napkins. Actually during the rest of the year it is anything that you could actually make yourself. I think it’s my own guilt, I used to do all the home made stuff, but lately my standards have dropped - hers didn’t even in her early nineties,

TV related.
If the continuity announcer says,

‘Coming up next… (insert title of disapproved of program - probably on ITV)’

I hear the voice of my mom briskly saying,

‘Not in this house it isn’t!’

When I walk about barefoot……my father’s voice……Go and put some shoes on! We had stone floors and a very cold house.

Not particularly though I always think ,when tempted to say something nasty about someone, of what my Mum said,
‘If you can’t say anything nice about someone, don’t say anything at all’ Serves me well.

My Mum (gone in 1995) is still reminding me to clean my teeth and wash my hands - and have I got a clean handkerchief?

No can’t say I do, maybe they didn’t say anything all that memorable.

Yes I often hear and often quote my mother

Floradora9 Fri 30-Dec-22 10:00:16

Once again when I sat down to do a bit of mending I looked through my needles and heard my mother saying " Please thread me a needle and not a dagger " . It never fails .
